One man created an unsanctioned bond with a woman, resulting in a miracle pregnancy. Ano In Desperate Betrayal, the first of The Protector Novels, betrayal danced with fierce attraction as two strangers find their life-mates under undesirable circumstances. Another improbably found his life-mate when she literally tracked him down.

Together, the incidents turned their boss, Julian, cold on Atlanta, as if there was something in the water that was responsible. He takes every opportunity Julian provides to vent his tension. His 6-foot-five frame and three-hundred-plus pounds of muscle serve as armor for the most fragile heart in the history of mankind. The boss believes that the only thing that will stabilize Kieran is a woman in his bed on a permanent basis, so he insists on Kieran settling down. She told Emma how to find Cynden, setting in motion the events of the first book.

After saving her from a demon two years before, Kieran erased her memory of the event and of him. Kieran vaguely recognizes her, but she is careful not to let on that she knows him. Kieran is a man of principles, so he surrenders what he wants to be fair to Wendy. He keeps his distance, even at the risk of being rude, and spends a good deal of time taking cold showers. Where as Desperate Betrayal was an examination of trust between partners, Desperate Surrender delves into deep-seeded emotional scarring and the risks one man will take to take control of his life.

In addition, Surrender takes a few steps out of its romance framework and includes the POV of additional characters—master demon Gerard and Fallon—to set up the events of the third Protector novel, Desperate Possession. This allows Hildie McQueen to leave her audience hanging with a sense of foreboding opposed to hanging onto the edge of a cliff, which as a reader I appreciate since the next installment may not be available for months.

Jun 02, Delphina rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really enjoyed the first book and novella in this series and was so beyond excited to be selected to get an ARC for review. I am not patient when it comes to getting my hands on a book that I want to read and getting this book a few weeks before the release made me a happy girl. Not only did this book live up to my expectations, it exceeded them. It is for certain sure my favorite in the series, thus far. Here are some things I liked about it: I have to say I loved learning more about her character and was super happy when I realized her background.

Hildie did not fall into the trap of constantly retelling the story from book one, while at the same time reminding the reader or explaining to a new reader the important things they may have forgotten since reading the last book. It is a fine balance. They are not your typical immortal. I love it when authors create new lore. It makes everything possible and nothing a given. I think a big part of this is that you know Wendy pretty much was enamored with Kieran since before the series began.

She shared her feeling with Emma during the first book, so you always had this hope that something would develop between them. This book includes the characters from the first book, so you do not feel like they just disappeared.

Desperate Surrender

I also enjoyed the new characters that were introduce or shown in more depth. I think Fallon is going to be a fun character in future books. As a side bar: Both he and Julian need someone to get them in line. I was up all night. Well not all night, but 5 am is as close as I get to all night these days. I am getting old ;. If you love paranormal books, romances, or paranormal romances, I think you will love this book.

It is fun, but not too fluffy. It has plenty of heat, but is not all about that part of the relationship. It has unique and intriguing lore. I just loved this installment and am really looking forward to her next book. I hope she throws some novellas out there while she is working on it, so I can get my fix of Protectors.

Jun 08, Kurt Bennett rated it it was amazing. This is a great read. The second book in the series this book includes a lot of the characters in Desperate Betrayal first in the series and adds a few more interesting ones. Hildie is in here element here and is bringing them all to life. I felt the triumphs and defeats each went through and had a hard time putting the book down. Set in modern day Atlanta the author included local establishments to make the story even more believable.

But there is also some world building going on in he Super! But there is also some world building going on in here with locations around the world both past and present. Hildie again has done her research and used her imagination and wit to weave it all together into a believable and enjoyable story. Desperate Betrayal was a very good book but Desperate Surrender confirms that this author is in her element. I cant wait to see what comes next. So if you get a moment pick up your a copy of Desperate Surrender, get a glass of wine, and prepare to immerse yourself into some good reading.

Jul 05, Agnes rated it it was amazing. Hildie's books are Hot with a capital H - they contain memorable characters, a well-developed story, and most importantly, swoon-worthy hunks and interesting heroines. There's also a real-life element to her world building that makes you think that it's possible that these people and creatures might just exist. Buy one, heck buy five so that you have some to hand out to your friends. You won't regret it. Jun 01, Ciara Knight rated it it was amazing. Desperate Surrender is an amazing continuation in The Protectors series.

I think this book was even better than the first. It is full of forbidden love, a hunky hero, with more to him than just his looks, a lovable and strong heroine, and a lot of conflict. This is a pager turner! McQueen wrote a winner with this one. Jun 04, Dahlia yadkny marked it as to-read.

Finished this is book this weekend and it's great! Much better editing than the first in the series and I absolutely love all the main characters. Feb 02, Michelle Leah Olson rated it it was amazing Shelves: After seeing 2 of his fellow protectors mated and the storm it kicked up with Julien, he is going to do his duty and marry who Julien chooses for him but he is not going to be happy about it.

There is definitely some sexual tension going on and some cold showers needed. We get to dive into the demon side of the world of the Protectors in this book which is nice because it mixes things up a bit. I am happy to say that each book keeps getting better and better, I would strongly suggest starting with the prequel and working your way through the Protectors series in order.

I give Desperate Surrender 5 skulls and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment.

It turns out that Emma is Cyn's mate for life. Cyn also has a son named Blue who is half-demon, but he is not his real father. Blue's real father is actually a demon named Argos, who ends up being taken by him. During the process of Blue being taken by his real father and almost killed by him. But Emma saved Blue from dying by running right into the way. It almost killed her, but she lucky survived. Two weeks go by that she has not seen Cyn and when she finally sees him again, he asks her to marry him. She tells him yes and then they face Julian the leader of all the Protectors.

Kieran is Cyn's brother who is also a Protector. Then one night Emma made a dinner for two and before Cyn comes over Wendy stops by, she asks Emma if she told Cyn that she was pregnant yet. Emma did not believe that she was pregnant. She ended up telling Cyn that she might be pregnant after there wedding ceremony. He took her out to go and get some pregnancy test, he had her take them as soon as they got home. He was so happy that they came back positive.

Cyn then gets called to duty and Emma gets a call from her sister. It was a trap set up by Gerard to kill both Brianna and Emma at the same time. Brianna ended up dying at the hands of another demon and Emma was saved by Cyn's brother Kieran. Emma ended up going and living with Cyn and Blue at his house. I know that I enjoyed this book immensely and cannot wait to see what happens to Cyn, Emma, and the baby she is carrying. I am pretty sure that you are going to enjoy this book as well.

Hildie McQueen really knows how to capture her audience's attention and keep it caught, even through the hot and spicy parts. Those were described excellantly, very detailed that is. I really cannot wait to see how the second book to this begins and ends.

I want to know what happens to Cyn, Emma, the baby, and to Blue. The Protectors - Immortal males sworn to protect humanity and the innocent from demons and their ilk. Thoroughly trained in demon warfare Protectors can be recognized by their reflective eyes, intimidating auras, retractable fangs, and their devastatingly sexy appearance. When Cyn encounters Emma watching him fight demons in a darkened alley, he is suspicious and attracted at the same time. He hears her story of her sister being held hostage by demons with no intent to get involved but when she informs him of a Protector being held there as well, the situation becomes much more urgent.

Emma is keeping a secret from Cyn though, she and her sister are half demon and the only way to get her sister back is to hand over Cyn. Hildie McQueen made the bold statement that she intends to run with the big dogs when she released this book. Hildie McQueen just broke the house. The story was tight and fast paced, the characters were extremely well developed and multi-dimensional, and the romance was steamy, sensual and very well balanced.

How many times have I ranted because a character did something stupid or sleazy and got off without paying enough for it? At least a thousand, right. Not in this book, justice is served and I enjoyed every bite. And each element in this book was perfectly weighed and measured.

Get this book and get it now. It is just too good to miss. Nov 06, J. Stewart rated it it was amazing. For me, this was a very different sort of book. The storyline is completely unique. I think the whole idea Protectors is brilliant. It's not something that's been overdone. Frankly, I'm bored with the whole vampire, werewolf idea and this is a great twist.

It's a whole other world. But what I really loved was the characters and the emotion. I want deep emotion in my romance and Hildie delivers. Emotion dripped off every page, so that I felt everything right along with them. I cried, I laughed, I cheered, and at the end, my heart broke. Then I cheered again. Half the time, my heart was in my throat. That to me, is a well written book. They were my favorite part of the whole book.

They came to life. Even the villain was very real. We definitely empathize with her.

He was my favorite part of the whole book. He was larger than life and absolutely to die for. And a heart of gold at that. It was life-us interruptus for me this week, so I had to read this in snippets, but this book was my guilty pleasure. I definitely look forward to more from Hildie McQueen. Jan 22, Cocktails and Books rated it really liked it Shelves: I enjoyed the premise of this book. A group of immortal warriors that protect humans from demon threats.

They were from different walks of life, but all were hot as sin and willing to do pretty much whatever it took to protect the human race. As the story starts, Emma Blake is desperate to get Cyn Frasier to help her save her sister from the master demon who has kidnapped her. She even dangles information about his missing friend, Roderick, still being alive hoping that would convince him to help I enjoyed the premise of this book. She even dangles information about his missing friend, Roderick, still being alive hoping that would convince him to help her.

But what she doesn't share is that she's half demon and that she's being forced to lure Cyn into helping her in order to save both her sister's and her life. What neither Cyn and Emma counted on was their attraction to each other or Cyn discovering Emma's deception in hopes of saving the remaining family member she has.

Trust is a big issue between Cyn and Emma. Cyn can't let go of what she did in the hope of saving her sister. Even when Emma declares her love and understanding about why he may hate her, he still can't trust those feelings. It's not until Emma does the unthinkable to save his son that he understands how far she's willing to go for those she loves. The only thing I wish we got was a little more backstory about the Protectors and how they came to be. How did these warriors come to be? How many are there? And why are demons roaming the earth? Hopefully these are answers we'll get in future books.

If you're a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters series, this is a book that will right up your alley. Mar 22, Jordan rated it really liked it. I loved this story. Cyn is very, very sexy. He's the perfect Protector and hero- strong and loving. I loved the idea of him being a single dad and doing a great job of raising his son. Emma is a loyal and smart half demon. Above all else she values her family and thus the Desperate Betrayal. The romance is very good. Emma manages to flip Cyn off his game a few times!

Hildie writes hot love scenes that leave you wanting to read more. I had to wait until summer vacation to find the time to sit dow I loved this story. I had to wait until summer vacation to find the time to sit down and read this book. And thank God I did. I loved the story. There are a number of editing issues, however, don't let that stop you from falling into the story. The worldbuilding and romance are terrific. The concept of The Protectors, a group of men bound to protect innocents from demons is fantastic.

Of course, they do have a few obstacles to deal with in terms of love. They can't marry unless it's arranged by Julian, the leader of their group or if they somehow encounter their life mate. Who the hell wants an arranged marriage? So, they seem to stay single and have a hell of a time, unless they find their true mate, which you can imagine is a challenge for Alpha males who are accustomed to having things go their way. As soon as I fell into the story I wanted another. In fact, I stopped reading to see what else Hildie had written and hoped to find Kiernan's story coming soon.

It's already available, as is Roderick and Rachel's story. I've got them both ready for my next afternoon on the beach. I'm a huge fan of romance series and encourage anyone else who likes them to give this one a spin. Emma and Cyn are fantastic characters in a riveting story. I'd put this up on my shelf with Kresley Cole, that's how much I loved this story. It's hot, the characters' attraction for each other tangible and steaming; yet you know from the start, Emma's going to betray him Well, it IS in the title, so it wasn't really a spoiler-spill. McQueen weaves a beautiful tale with amazing detail, bringing her urban battleground between the demons and the Protectors in Atlanta, to life.

Oct 25, Julie rated it really liked it Shelves: This first book in the Protector Series is fast paced and full of action.

I was intrigued by the premise of a heroine that is part demon. I have not come across that in a lot of books. My interest was piqued from the opening scene. The author does a magnificent job of drawing the reader into her scenes with her seductive writing skills. The action scenes are written with intensity. You are propelled along with vivid images and a distinctive knowledge of the characters.

Hell yes, bring them on in impressive numbers: D As a character, I found Cyn charming. This is a take-charge sort of man, strong, proud, quick to act, he generally goes by a code or a set of rules, well organized, dedicated… Sorry, I get sidetracked when talking about hotties like Cyn.

But what I like about him the most is that when he falls for someone, he falls really really hard. Emma was a darling, I totally loved her. Plus I really liked the writing, I mean you guys just read the first few sentences of chapter 1, I was hooked after the first 2 rows, seriously. Which I was very happy about because I was left speechless at the end of Desperate Choices the prequel to the Protector Series. The title says it all and is perfect for the plot of this book. Desperate Betrayal, it says so much with only 2 words. Our couple in book 1, Desperate Betrayal, is Cyn and Emma. Cyn is a Protector that has a pretty set idea of his future and has no plans of changing that, till Emma walks in from the shadows. I loved them together, I loved that their pains brought them together. We meet a lot of new characters in this book, Protectors and Demons. By far my favorite so far is Blue, I don't want to give any spoilers but I will say that if he ever gets his own story, I will be on my knees begging to get an early copy of it from Hildie: I give Desperate Betrayal 5 out of 5, because of the world that Hildie has created that is so enticing and very well thought out.

However, what she doesn't see coming is the attraction she feels for her Protector. The setting takes place in Atlanta where dark, cold, back streets play host to a world where demons and guardians are constantly at war. You get a real feel for the city. I know I'll never see Atlanta the same. The sex is graphic, the prose extremely visible to those with an active imagination. McQueen balances the forces of good and evil and ropes you in with with action and suspense. I would recommend Desperate Betrayal to anyone in the mood for a solid paranormal romance. Atlanta is overrun by demons and The Protectors are out to find and rescue one of their own.
