The Mary Poppins Returns star gives a behind-the-scenes look at her new film. Love and Murder TV Movie Joanne Kilbourn was a top police detective, until her distress over the unsolved murder of her husband caused her to leave the force to become a university lecturer. Still trying to help her three children deal with the death of their father, she gets drawn back into another murder investigation when her old friend, flighty artist Sally Love, comes back to town for an exhibit. When Sally's ex-husband turns up dead, Jo's old partner Millard lists Sally as the main suspect.

Jo must determine if Sally is innocent or guilty; she also must figure out how the present day murder fits in with the mysterious death of Sally's father at their summer cottage twenty years ago. This is the first film in the popular Joanne Kilborn mysteries, based loosely on the novels by Gail Bowen.

Wendy Crewson's portrayal of the widowed ex-cop turned college professor feels genuine. We see her struggling with raising her children alone, grappling with her own loss and the unanswered questions surrounding her husband's murder and dealing with trauma from her own childhood.

When her best friend from childhood reappears, and people around her fall prey to murder, Crewson plays the inquisitive friend with relentless sincerity and conviction. She makes us believe that she is just an average "every woman" who has the determination of a relentless blood hound when it comes to finding the answers to all the unknown questions.

In Australia , as in other common law jurisdictions, crimes of passion have traditionally been subjected to the partial defense of provocation , which converts what would have been murder into manslaughter. In recent years, the defense of provocation has come under increased criticism, [6] [7] and, as a result, legal changes have abolished or restricted its application: Killing of wives due to adultery has been traditionally treated very leniently in Brazil , in court cases where husbands claimed the "legitimate defense of their honor" legitima defesa da honra as justification for the killing.

Although this defense was not explicitly stipulated in the 20th-century Criminal Code, it has been successfully pleaded by lawyers throughout the 20th century, in particular in the interior of the country, though less so in the coastal big cities.
