If you love rockers you are sure to love this book. Wow, what can I say. I'm a sucker for a rock star book, and I swear one day I'm going to learn.
I just found myself rolling my eyes or thinking "you've got to be kidding me" for most if the book. It's one of the worse cases if insta-love ever. I liked Jake, but honestly, I just couldn't see him as this rock-star hottie. He acted more like a silly middle-schooler most if the time 2. He acted more like a silly middle-schooler most if the time. And, if something could happen, it did, and it happened in a OTT way. View all 9 comments.
Jan 05, Misty Irish-pugmire rated it it was amazing. Got the privelage of an advance copy from the author. This is an awesome book! Strong female character, hot rocker boy and a Granny that has you laughing so hard your crying! What more can you ask for? Congrats on another great one! Mar 16, M. The characters were flat and not believable. The book felt rushed and told instead of showed. I couldn't stand the main chick. And of course a bad boy rocker, even though he really wasn't a bad boy rocker, fell in love with her instantly. Main character was winy and Boring.
Main character was winy and not all witty like the Amazon synopsis said or like the book tried to make her out to be. I thought she was just winy. Not full grown women. I didn't understand their major attraction. After day two they're totally head over heels.
Book Review: Battlescars: A Rock & Roll Romance by Sophie Monroe – Got Meghan's Blog
She FLYS home to get a break from him. After one day she gets back on her daddy's plane? Plus her dads business wasn't doing that well so how can she fly around for free on a whim? I love musician stories. I've mostly dated musicians. Have lived with one for 9 years now so I totally dig the rocker bad boy shit but this book didn't deliver for me. Mar 14, Jexa rated it it was ok. Maybe I could bump it up to 2.
There was something that had me wanting to keep going, something in between the lines, and I tried so hard to find but it just never fully developed. I never fully connected with the characters. I never felt any of their struggles or their emotions. Every Maybe I could bump it up to 2. We were like two days into the story and already the two main characters were acting and talking as if they had known each other for months?
Like the heroine Aubrey, I developed a serious case of the eye rolls. The other problem that this book has is that it suffers from a major case of the tells with none of the shows. That in and of itself takes the reader out of the zone, and it really makes it hard to feel anything at all. Because of this I found myself skimming the pages a little before the halfway point and by the end I literally skipped several pages just to get to the end. I really liked the premise for this story, I thought it had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me.
This book was very obvious, the plot line, you could see it coming a mile off But surprisingly enough, I didn't dislike it. Right I will start with the positive things: It was based around music that I like - 3 Days Grace, Adele ect The characters were acceptable. Not fantastic but I have read much much worse.
See a Problem?
Now, on with the negative - Yea, what a fucking 3. Now, on with the negative - Yea, what a fucking surprise that is coming from me. I felt as though the characters developed too fast. You cant change the person you're with, even if it is for the better, it will never last. They met, married and got pregnant with twins within 3 months I think the part of the plot with Jeremy was very forced, it didnt fit in naturally with the book and you could see it throughout that the development of the plot was stilted, there was no build up just 2 incidents resulting in a death.
When you were waiting to see whether she would live, theres no tension at all. Not a little bit crappy but it was such complete shit that at some parts of the book, I had to read it times to even begin to make sense of it. Realistically, I dont have time for that shit. For more reviews please check out My Blog Mar 14, J rated it really liked it. I'm Jake Parker, and I'm not the womanising asshole that the media portrays me as. I am opinionated and downright uncensored.
I can tell by your sarcastic undertones, rude comments and sheer lack of common decency that we're going to be friends in to time. I can just tell. Mar 03, Stephanie rated it liked it. This book has some good bones to it and definite potential to be fabulous. I was taken with Jake Parker from the minute Aubrey laid her eyes on him. What can I say? I could do without. She kind of got on my nerves, but I get why she was so needy all the time. What rubbed me the wrong way was her constant saying of how she didn't need him.

Her actions spoke louder thoug This book has some good bones to it and definite potential to be fabulous. Her actions spoke louder though. She had some good lines in there too, but I just couldn't connect with her. My favorite was Granny Jean! I wish I had a Grandma that cool! The story, overall, felt very rushed to me. Like as a reader, I just felt I was getting glimpses of scenes that should have been immersing me with their emotion they held.
I was given a copy of Battlescars in exchange for an honest review. But for now, it was a cute, insta-love story, but there was just way too much details and the flow was choppy. Sep 06, Talltree marked it as no-dnf-zzz-avoid.
Battlescars: A Rock & Roll Romance
View all 4 comments. Battlescars was a perfect NA novel with enough bad boys, rock n roll and sarcasm to leave you panting for more. Hoping for some time off-she instead gets a call from her father about a last minute change of plans. Those plans revolve around Battlescars lead singer Jake.
Aubrey is none too happy giving up her vacation in order to fly around the country with a spoiled, self-absorbed rock star. She practically ignores him when they first meet but soon realizes Jake does not fit the rock star stigma like she thought. Aubrey was one of those joyous characters you love to read about that can easily make you laugh then secretly wish they were your best friend.
Aubrey knows no bounds and speaks her mind to everyone about everything making her much more than just another sarcastic and witty girl. But issues from her past have kept her from forming close bonds with anyone outside of her family, particularly guys. However, she does not let people close and touching her is a big no-no.
Yet with Jake, her problems seem to matter less and less. Jake is sick of being stereotyped just because he is in a band. And has tattoos and is famous. He just wants to be seen as a person. Aubrey gives him that, without even trying. She never once sees him for anyone else than he is even when he is serenading her in front of thousands of people.
I did have a bit of an issue with how fast everything happened. It becomes a case of minor insta-love, since Aubrey gets over her Jake rock-star aversion rather quickly. The day after meeting Jake is begging her not to make him chase her anymore. After two days I was wondering why everything was being so rushed considering she was going to be on tour with them for months. Jake onstage is something to behold. Sophie Monroe does a phenomenal job of bringing the concert to life. Jake really has a great rocking personality that he utilizes to pump up the crowd.
And whenever he would speak to Aubrey during a performance, I swear I swooned. I wanted that more than anything. Particularly, the beginning, giving us more time to get to know the characters before the insta-love connection. I do wish the story was longer. At times it feels a bit rushed and added with the insta-love it was like speeding on the expressway. In a few short weeks they are dating and becoming overly serious. Jake is adorable but I was a bit thrown by his sudden prenatal vitamin kick he wanted her on.
They just get together, a month passes and then he wants to have a baby. Hello, speed bumps please. It worked, just seemed so fast especially with Aubrey and her aversion to men and being touched. When he mentioned incorporating a moat, he worked his way into my heart even more. Aside from wishing the book was longer, everything was wonderfully written and enjoyable to read.
Overall Battlescars is everything a rock and roll romance should be. Jake is the front man for the rockband Battlescars. Aubrey is Jake's flight attendant and from there, the fireworks go off. They take their time to get to know each other and the sexual tension was driving me crazy. Aubrey has a past and is afraid to let anyone in and Jake also has a past and together they find something they didn't expect No cliffhanger and a HEA, couldn't get any better than that!
Oh and I can't forget to mention Granny Jean I'm sure we all have one of these in our family.. LOL "Nice to meet you Mrs. Call me Granny Jean, or at least Jean. Ain't you ever seen a rock star before? I'm not that awful, I promise. I don't bite, unless you're in to that kind of thing, then I'd gladly make an exception. He was tall, handsome, and covered in tattoos. He also had a reputation, one that i wasn't interested in knowing.

I can tell by your sarcastic undertones, rude comments and sheer lack of common decency that we're going to be friends in no time. I also have a mouth that would make a sailor proud. However, I am fiercely loyal and compassionate, just don't cross me. I want to try and let you in, but the last time i let someone in it ended very badly. For some reason, you can touch me and I don't shy away. That has never happened with anyone that isn't my family, or someone I've known my whole life.
View all 14 comments. Feb 23, Shannon rated it it was amazing. I was so happy to be given an ARC of this by the author and here is my completely honest review: I loved this book. It's the story of Aubrey and Jake. Aubrey is a stewardess for her dad's private plane company and Jake is a rock star from the band Battlescars. Jake hires Aubrey's dad's company for the duration of his tour which is three months. Not even one hour into the trip and Jake is already smitten.
Aubrey isn't so smitten, though. She isn't your typical chick. She's pretty ha I was so happy to be given an ARC of this by the author and here is my completely honest review: She's pretty hardcore inside and out. She's got black hair with pink tips and tons of tattoos. She's had a terrible thing happen to her and it has left her pretty scarred towards men and people in general. For some reason, though, Jake is able to break through her wall of defense and see the amazing person she is. Aubrey begins to see that Jake isn't your typical rock star. He is actually a truly caring person, who through out the book continued to surprise me with how good of a person he actually is.
Jake and Aubrey aren't your perfect couple, they have ups and downs, they fight, not to mention they have to deal with the pressures and stress of being in the spotlight, but somehow with the help and love of each other they make it through. This is such a good book. I couldn't put it down. It's different from other novels, because the characters are so different. Even the supporting characters were amazing. From the band members to Granny Jean, each of them was able to evoke an emotion whether it be a laugh or smile. Sophie did a great job creating them and making them worm their way into your heart.
I'm included my reactions at a few sections in the book: I was so ready! D As you can see, it's a roller coaster of emotions. I definitely recommend it though! I am really unsure as to give this book two or three stars. It's not that I didn't like the story, I did, but it just never had me enthralled. I just didn't experience the whole 'couldn't put it down and was reading until the wee hours of the morning' with this book.
I really liked the book for the first few chapters. I think I liked it a little too much. I have to say I wish more books were like this, hell I wish there were more guys like Jake Parker. They let each other into their lives and see who they were are on the inside. In this book, you got to hear from the view of both Jake and Aubrey. I found some similarities with Aubrey Thompson. Aubrey was the total opposite. I was kind of jealous of everything she was, her style and attitude. He had a reputation for being a bad boy, but at times, he was a hopeless romantic and a sweetheart throughout the book.
I definitely fell in love with him. And the fact that she was covered in tattoos was a plus! They are pretty funny! I loved Granny Jean. Dear God, I kept reading about her and kept saying in my head, this is what my nana would act like if she accepted the same lifestyle, minus the smoking part. The one character you are not going to like and want to hurt throughout the book too.
Towards the ending of the book it gets very cute and loving. You will laugh your ass off as you read it. I suggest to keep some tissues at times, especially around the last few couple chapters.
You start seeing their friendship grow in the last two chapters. My favorite quote from the whole book was at the end.
