Thank you Robert Taylor for such an inspiring and refreshing book! I re-discovered some memories of my own.
I enjoy how you can keep returning to stories in this book. You find yourself re-thinking of your own life and personal growth. Realizing the changes of how you view things in your past as your lens of life continues to grow and change. A New Way to Be Human takes you on a voyage of discovery through the waves of our lives. I highly recommend this book. Aug 30, William Early rated it it was amazing.
What a great book! So often I find myself 'stuck' playing one or two notes, over and again, instead of playing the SONG of life--perhaps you can relate?
In his book, A New Way to Be Human, Robert Taylor lovingly walks you through a process for self-examination and transformation--helping you to live life more fully and, dare I say, with a song in your heart. To me, his voice is authentic and compassionate--never preachy or clinical--and the wisdom he shares is extremely impactful. The ingredient What a great book!
How to End Relationship Dysfunction
The ingredients are as you might imagine examine your life-story without judgment, share and find connections with the people in your life, live in full awareness--observing degrees instead of just the narrow path before you, discover the 'one-ness' shared by all humanity, etc. The message is interwoven with interesting stories that illustrate and illuminate each lesson, while also making them infinitely relatable--helping you to recognize the invitations for incorporating each lesson into your own life.
I've read a lot of what you might call 'self-help' but this book is special: Sep 05, Robert White rated it it was amazing. It seemed like in defining it, any movement I made toward a closer relationship with God was interfered with or even blocked. Robert Taylor's book reflects a more holistic yet pragmatic approach than other books I've read. I found myself often identifying with the author's personal journey to wholeness and meaning I won't be writing a book about spirituality -- in that domain I'm still a student and one of my new teachers is Robert Taylor.
I recommend you consider this book as a resource to deepen your own growth and development. Jul 02, Beth rated it liked it Shelves: Originally published at Beth's Book Reviews. Since the author was born and raised in South Africa he's white, by the way there was quite a bit about race relations in the book.
This, in combination with the religious aspects of the book, didn't particularly impress me. The messages are generally positive and to encourage the reader to become the best person they can be. Some of the inspirations provided are beneficial, but obviously not everything is for everyone. Every reade Originally published at Beth's Book Reviews. Every reader should take away something new and different. I recommend this for those looking for a more spiritual take on self-improvement.

Sep 19, Gordon Warnock rated it it was amazing. By opening up to these daily possibilities, we can become more aware, more energized, and more alive. Despite being an ordained Episcopal priest with ties to an Archbishop, Taylor freely pulls from the wisdom of many different disciplines, practicing what he teaches in the very way the book is constructed. My ARC was awful and so I couldn't really appreciate this book that is a long suggestion to act better and more compassionate in your life, following the example of Desmond Tutu.

Very elegant, poetic writing! Taylor has a wonderful gift for expressing the Holy in a new way, going to the heart of that which is divine in all of us. He invites the reader to conscious living from inside out; the breath of life fueling our every moment. He challenges us to become aware of each moment and how we are in the world for ourselves and for others. Oct 15, Fr. River rated it it was amazing. One person at a time would travel the route wearing a black gown, carrying a wreath in their hands. So our protest march of mourning and lamentation was born as a companion to the fast.
New Way to Be Human: 7 Spiritual Pathways to Becoming Fully Alive
Two days later the phone rang in my dorm. They had seen the photograph of me in the protest march which had appeared in several South African newspapers. You know what happens to people who speak up in this country. What if we worked for the humanity of every person instead of rejecting, excluding or killing? I woke up in the early hours of the morning thinking about the conversation with my parents. On the day of the funeral we left early on a bus that would drive us several hundred miles to the football stadium in which it would be held. Our small band of college students quickly noticed the helicopters flying overhead and the talk about police informers photographing those present.

We entered a stadium filled with more than thirty thousand people. At the end of the funeral a very short man appeared on the stadium field. If you take up violence you will become just like those who have killed Biko. This man of small stature with a towering message was Desmond Tutu. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Every person was straining forward so as not to miss a single word or inflection.
Back at the campus a South African curry with its intriguing blend of spices, vegetables and meat that had simmered for hours, seemed to be a fitting meal for the breaking of our fast.
