Lists with This Book. Feb 09, Jennifer rated it it was amazing. By now, these characters are our family, they are our friends, and they are our enemies. We have invested our time and hearts into each and every one of them. The last HCN in this series. As usual, well done Patti. Dec 29, Debi Domby rated it it was amazing. I think I went through half a box of tissues the last books in this series. Larsen's first book Family Magic on BookBub. That hooked me to buy the first story in the 20 book series. The writing and characters kept me hooked through the remaining 19 books.
I just had to see what was going to ha I think I went through half a box of tissues the last books in this series.
I just had to see what was going to happen next. I really got invested in the story line, wanting to know what twists and turns would happen next. I don't know how many times I burst out laughing or cried my eyes out as the story unfolded make sure you have a box of tissues for the last couple books you'll need them , or how often I didn't want to put the book down but had to because my lunch hour was over The characters were believable Anything I write about the story will give away what happens, but so you have to read them and see what happened.
You won't be sorry you picked them up. I just wish there was more after book story, but there are more in the Hayle Coven universe.

I read the books one after another, so this is the same review for all of them. I'm 50 and enjoy young adult books because the lack of sex scenes in them You get to know the characters more in them. Although Syd does have sex in some of them, there is no description of it, just mentioned that she did have it and maybe waking up with her boyfriend. My niece is 14 and I'd give them to her to read.

Jun 27, Nereid rated it it was amazing Shelves: Well I can say I had already guessed who she would choose though I was sad to know she would not get her magical "happily ever after" but life is certainly no fairytale for Syd. Gran was finding it difficult to live with Syd's decision but under the circumstances it was the right choice. Of course the honeymoon is short lived as Syd finally gets her wish to try and free Sebastian which I am very happy to read.
Drama at every turn and married life will make Syd realise that it is not just her lif Well I can say I had already guessed who she would choose though I was sad to know she would not get her magical "happily ever after" but life is certainly no fairytale for Syd. Drama at every turn and married life will make Syd realise that it is not just her life that is at stake any more when she runs off to god knows where to thwart The Brotherhood and there is still Ameline to be dealt with.
Oh my swearword, what the hell? I am gob smacked and Patti you lulled me into a false sense of security after the wedding. I must admit I did not see that one coming and seriously I would be happy to get on the bandwagon and stalk Ameline myself and rip her heart out. This instalment is heart-breaking and just maybe Quaid redeems himself a little though Syd has a long way to go before it is finally over.
It will be like losing an old friend as I have become invested in this series and that is the art of being a great storyteller that the reader can empathise with Syd and feel like she is family. I am saddened to know the next book is the last one in the series though Patti has done a wonderful job tying up the loose threads and after the roller coaster ride of this one, the final book will be earth-shattering I am sure.
Mar 07, Books rated it it was amazing Shelves: From a wedding and an epic battle, to an execution and a funeral, this book contains joy, action and extreme sadness. Balance is the word that comes to mind in this case. Syd, though still snarky, sometimes a bit childish and often unnecessarily temperamental, is far more adult and responsible in this book. Although she kicks butt as usual, she suffers a major betrayal and a great loss. Said loss is why I will issue a definite Kleenex warning at this point. The evil antagonist, Ameline, very necessary to Syd's cause in this book, comes into her full maji power.
The question is, what will happen after she has served her purpose? Despite Syd's married status, handsome fellows like Piers, Sebastian and especially Quaid are still around. Quaid in particular is a bit irrational about her marriage; a fact that brings a poignancy to the story.
Series: Hayle Coven
Works can belong to more than one series. In some cases, as with Chronicles of Narnia , disagreements about order necessitate the creation of more than one series. If the series has an order, add a number or other descriptor in parenthesis after the series title eg. By default, it sorts by the number, or alphabetically if there is no number.
If you want to force a particular order, use the character to divide the number and the descriptor. So, " 0 prequel " sorts by 0 under the label "prequel. Series was designed to cover groups of books generally understood as such see Wikipedia: Like many concepts in the book world, "series" is a somewhat fluid and contested notion. A good rule of thumb is that series have a conventional name and are intentional creations , on the part of the author or publisher. For now, avoid forcing the issue with mere "lists" of works possessing an arbitrary shared characteristic, such as relating to a particular place.
Avoid series that cross authors, unless the authors were or became aware of the series identification eg. I almost couldn't believe it, and kept watching for it. When it arrived, it did so in an unexpected way. Even realizing that it would happen, I must have cried for a full hour afterwards. No one is exaggerating this in their reviews to date.
Coven Leader (Hayle Coven, book 19) by Patti Larsen
I've seen, in some of Larsen's other work, that she doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. That's certainly the case here.
This is very hard to take. But, there are some highlights. Sebastian is saved, and in a way that is wholely unforeseen. The consequences of this will undoubtedly be dealt with in the final book. Piers also plays a large part in this book, as does Quaid and Liam. Demetrious Strong emerges, in this book, as a major character. Everyone is present, and everyone has a part, and everyone fulfills their roles in the prophesy.
The loose ends to be tied up will primarily involve Ameline and Gran, along with some major plot advances that will be there. The final book is one that I don't want to spoil for anyone. This is considered a YA series. Larsen adheres to this model largely by softballing the sex, and by throwing in a lot of teenage whining and moping.
That being said, I'm in no way anywhere near that demographic. Yet, I'm fully invested in these books, and would pay any amount to get them. They are absolutely consuming, and, even though I may be reading other books when Larsen puts out the latest installment, I drop everything and read it, without pause. I know I'm preaching to the choir here. Most likely everyone who reads this review will be someone who has read all 18 books. If, for some reason, there is a potential reader just checking out reviews to see whether they might want to get into so long a series, I have this to say. It's worth every penny you pay and every hour you spend on it.
And -- read them in order.

Read them slowly, because you won't want to go back and reread. You'll be too anxious to get on to the next one. Don't worry about the cost of buying so many books. Buy these books instead of something else. Below is what I wrote for all the books in the series. I cried my eyes out on this one and was pretty mad at Syd's choice for mate and what happens.
Can't say what but make sure you have a box of tissues to get through this one and 20 trust me the waterworks continue. Know that for me the more tissues I use for tearjerker stories, the better.
