The pages of the novel are, as one would expect, awash with blood, viscera and enough predator semen to fill a large bucket. The eponymous hero is a handsome Byronic type, the heroine a plucky little soul and the villain an irredeemable sadist — in this case also endowed if you will permit the pun with superhuman powers. James works hard to breathe life into the love interest and, in spite of the rising body-count and tsunami of plasma, pulls it off.

The non-violent sex scenes — which of necessity sit at the heart of this kind of work — are well handled, and the link passages between them show a writer striving to produce a genuine narrative trajectory. I for one should like to see it. Feb 24, Kim rated it it was amazing. Mia and Richard didn't marry for love, they married for convenience. They threw a get together because Richard wanted Lucas's business. Richard was a lawyer.

Yes, because I liked Anne James' writing and with a little more patients and care this could have been a very good romance. In the beginning I felt that Ms. James' was pulling from the erotica life form '50 Shades' has created. I can't say for sure because I don't know which came first Mia never quite hit the mark for me, all though pleasant moments in between made me momentarily forget that my overall feeling was of letdown. I can't say for sure because I don't know which came first but still, we have a male lead who is a true dominant.

I had a hard time liking Lucas and understanding why Mia was so drawn to him. Even if her husband wasn't the most loving partner, his body is barely cold when she begins falling hard and fast for our "hero". Lucas leaves a lot to be desired at the start of this story. He is rude, demanding, and quite frankly as jackass. In spite of that Ana still tingles for him, in those traditional human loves and vampire kind of ways. Despite all that I would still suggest giving Mia a read.

The writing is solid, the heat is positive and you are able to overlook the many things that might drive you batty for the sake of finishing the story. This book is clearly written to get wives feeling the spark and for it's success I must give it a solid three stars. Feb 21, Kevin Hammond rated it it was amazing. I went through this story a lot faster than normal. It begins with a pleasant gathering, no evidence that anything unusual is about to happen and then it spills over into violence and erotic vampire action. That was unexpected But it is a bit more than just some gore fest. I noticed the writer has done a fair bit of research and looked at all that is vampire lore.

The story centers on a human woman who is causing the leader of a local vampire clan to change his habits of fourteen hundred years. He is enchanted by his longing for her. A wandering loner vampire is trying to move in and take over the clan. Causing some trouble this would be usurper really has no idea how mismatched and delusional his plan is as he comes off as a toddler trying to swat at a gorilla. The editing had a few flubs usually having to do with sentence tense control mixing past and present. I was able to wade through this and enjoy the story. Scenes between Lucas and Mia are extremely hot as are the scenes with Blair and Louisa.

The later delve into sadism which puts my recommendation for this book at above age Four out of five is where I see this. Jun 14, Sadie Forsythe rated it liked it Shelves: MIa is just what it claims to be, a vampire erotica. Mia is a strong willed protagonist who is easy to like. Lucas is every bit as powerful and sexy as you would want him to be.

The uncharacteristic vulnerableness he shows Mia endears him to the reader. There is no lack of steamy sex between them. The bad guy, Blair, is truly evil and this is made abundantly clear by his cruel domination of the women around him. When he was around the book often read like a cautionary tale of sadism and misogyny MIa is just what it claims to be, a vampire erotica.

See a Problem?

I didn't care for this, but that is more of a personal preference than an indictment of the book. My only real complaints are the frequent tense changes and that Mia and Lucas have an instant, almost visceral reaction to each-other that sets in motion the events of the book. But you never really find out why. Similarly Mia has a fairly drastic change of opinion at the end of the story with no identifiable instigator. Despite this I would still suggest giving it a read. Nov 16, Lynda rated it it was amazing. I don't normally read vampire books, never read a word of Twilight, but if those books are even half as compelling as this story was, I may give them a try.

Mia and Lucas are wonderful, pure magic. The different worlds they live in, human and vampire, are not all that different upon closer look. Two lonely souls meet and learn to love, however there is a lot of darkness and pain along the way. The secondary characters in this book are strong and well developed, I would look forward to hearing mo I don't normally read vampire books, never read a word of Twilight, but if those books are even half as compelling as this story was, I may give them a try.

The secondary characters in this book are strong and well developed, I would look forward to hearing more about Eleanor, Joseph, Thomas and others in the Bradshaw clan. Note, there are some very graphic and explicit scenes of sadistic, psychotic behavior using tools of BDSM, not for the faint of heart. Oct 03, E. Reders rated it liked it. While i liked the world the author created and the plot of the story, the writing or should i say grammar let it down. I had not read a modern vampire story until this one. I discovered as well as being plentiful, they have moved on quite a bit from the early stories.

However, they still enjoy blood and sex in equal proportions. I'm glad it did. The erotica is well crafted, and the characters reactions are vivid. Two distinct sides depict the vampire nature. Mia is such a sweet little woman. No spoilers from me, but let's just say that Mia undergoes a transformation during the story. The antagonists, Blair and Louisa, illustrate the darker aspects of their vampire culture.

Lucas, the male protagonist, is definitely an alpha male, and Mia finds him irresistible. Mia needs Lucas for more than one reason, and Lucas is strangely attracted to Mia even though she is "Only Human. This book moves a good pace, with excellent descriptions of the characters, locales, and action within the story. Throughout the book, I thought I had the ending nailed;I was soooo wrong!

There is a unique plot twist near the end of this book that sets it apart from others in its genre. The book is well crafted, and long enough to be a stand-alone novel, however, I'm hoping for a sequel. As I often do, I recommend this book to any but the Grammar Nazis. Have I mentioned that I hate them? Perhaps their egos make them feel that they are so important a misspelled or misplaced word is too distracting for their finely honed minds. As with the first editions of many well-known, and or, historically famous authors, there are a few mistakes.

None of them, and I do mean None of them, kept me from reading on to continue enjoying the action in this book! I give this book four stars for well-crafted, vivid scenes, hot steamy erotica, and the fifth star for the plot twist at the end! I went through this story a lot faster than normal.
