A team of scientists are thrust into a potentially life-or-death situation when they arrive in the Arctic to secretly investigate what could be an outbreak of a strange disease in a secluded international research facility. This show is very entertaining. I think the lead investigator is a little too charismatic at times, but it makes it funny. TAPS is a good team. They do investigate with some fancy equipment. Most of the time, all they hear are little bumps in the night, but ever so often they find something.
They don't do too much in terms of "helping" the people who own the haunted property, besides just confirming their suspicions. This is a real good show. The beginning followed somewhat closely to the book, but the longer it goes on, the more it completely goes in another direction - to the point where now, it's not like the book at all except for some character names. I would have liked to see them stay more along with the book because it was so weird and a little difficult picturing all the things Stephen King was describing in my head. An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show, a hotel, a possessed farmhouse, a cult, and the apocalypse. The only negative this I have to say about this show is that I wish they'd take the "rape" aspect out of every single season.
But after they get that scene out of the way, I thoroughly enjoy the show. An American paranormal anthology previewing stories told by the victims. Victims tell their terrifing encounters with the paranormal. The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Publisher: February 11, Genre: Suspense Occult Print Length: The opening scene in The Coven Murders was horrifying but what a way to capture my interest! I immediately wanted justice and a morbid curiosity to understand the motivations for the satanists ritual. What was their end game, why the human sacrifice? The story then fast-forwards to present time where Chief Inspector Sheehan was brought in when some remains were discovered near an abandoned church.

It was these remains that would draw Sheehan and his team into a mystery that was almost too fantastical for them to believe.
As each of them are tested in ways that go beyond the boundaries of everyday occurrence it was up the Chief Inspector Sheehan to bring about a resolution to a mystery that threatens to destroy the souls of all who are investigating this most heinous of crimes. I absolutely loved that this story was a group effort. They each played a part in the uncovering of clues and they were all equally impacted by the evil that lay behind those who were responsible for the crime.
The occult portions of this story were quite believable and although I am not going to research them for accuracy they were real enough to cause me to feel thoroughly creeped out. The Coven Murders was a marvelously fast paced story of detection, mystery, murder, and mayhem! It is an honest and voluntary review. More murders occur and have to be investigated. Police work hard to find clues while members of a Satanic group are preparing to kidnap a young woman and offer her to Baphomet as a sacrifice. From there reader enters into unknown mystery and surprising discoveries.
While reading I was so anxious to find out who was killing the members of satanic group that I stayed up late hours reading his book. When the identity of the killer was revealed I could not believe it because I expected someone else to be the killer. The plot grabs the reader's attention and, introduces to well developed characters.

God willing and the creek don't rise. If you know Beth she love mysteries Supernatural is not really my go-2 read Lots of details, if you so enjoy that style, a really well written book.
I love catching up on Amazon Prime movies or tv series there as well. Dec 03, LGandT rated it it was amazing Shelves: This one got me right from the beginning. Kept my interest even though it was a tad much for me, I seem to like my crime a bit more lighthearted these days. I would none the less highly recommend this to anyone who has a like for crime with a twist of the bizarre. See full review here https: Mar 17, A.
Martin rated it it was amazing. Despite the necessity of the reader suspending disbelief in the existence of satanic powers, the plot is logical and well constructed, with no shortage of thrills, shocks, twists and turns. Without over doing the description and running the risk of slowing down plot development, , the book does offer the reader a very real sense of the time and place, in which it is set.
However, what I really like is the skillful and unselfconscious way in which the author juxtaposes the essential normality of life in Northern Ireland with the utterly bizarre events of the case. A very strong recommendation for fans of good, well written and researched thrillers.
Oct 02, Frank Frisson rated it it was amazing. This woman has been offered as a sacrifice to Satan. At the beginning of July of , a couple of hikers report finding skeletal remains. The discovery of this difficult-to-identify female skeleton precedes a total of six brand new bodies of prominent people killed in similar fashion as the person whose skeleton was found. As the thirty first of July approaches this year, so does a potential new human sacrifice in a Satanic ritual.
Can Sheehan and his investigative team find the killer in time? James Sheehan, or Jim as he is mostly called, was a bit difficult for me to draw a mental image of at first. He has a mind that latches on to little details. Able to get answers from the subconscious part of his mind as well as his ability to store away all those little things he catches with his eyes, one eventually gets to understand why he is chief in the Serious Crimes Room.
He is further revealed to be God-fearing, a cop who can quickly loose his temper when someone blatantly disrespects the law, and a superior open to any insight from his subordinates. Andrew Jones, a qualified medical doctor and assistant pathologist at a hospital has had little time to enjoy a social life thanks to time he had to make for his Ph. He meets Selena Carrington, a beautiful twenty-year-old woman on the verge of turning twenty-one, in a restaurant.
Selena is a beautiful young woman. She is surprisingly single, however. From this, we can already gather that some kind of supernatural force prevents Selena from being physically intimate with anyone and see at least part of what is going to happen later on. One is a Mr. Johnston, a research chemist who makes his untoward feelings about Mr. As one of the detectives point out, the style of the Satanic killings could just be fluff to throw off the police. The second suspect is a wealthy man with an unnerving and evil power lurking behind his eyes that even Sheehan cannot deny.
I found my thoughts returning to this one a lot. During this investigation starting with the skeleton and ending with six new murders, Sheehan and his team know that the people being killed now belong to a coven. Sheehan and his pathologist friend, Dr. Campbell, are old friends, but the stuff they say to each other is often something to laugh about. I like to think of myself as a guy with at least a moderately good sense of humor, but even so, I thought it a bit over the top for Sheehan to make as if he is dodging bullets when his old friend Campbell hits him with a barrage of scientific speak.
I thought this important to mention because, as I believe it, men alone simply do not possess the power to defeat demons and in this particular part that I quoted from, the author, perhaps unknowingly, states the opposite. Perhaps this book is written just for you. May 17, Olga Miret rated it really liked it. Great characters, a Northern Irish setting, and the devil is in the detail.
Thanks to the author for providing me an ARC copy of the novel that I freely chose to review. I read and reviewed a previous novel in this series The The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book 2 some time back and really enjoyed the cast of characters it was refreshing to see a team of the police working together and not full of corrupt individuals for whom solving a mystery is the last thing in their agendas Great characters, a Northern Irish setting, and the devil is in the detail. The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book 2 some time back and really enjoyed the cast of characters it was refreshing to see a team of the police working together and not full of corrupt individuals for whom solving a mystery is the last thing in their agendas and the well-built plot, full of twists and turns.
The author pre-warned me that this was quite a different type of beast and the plot was less standard. From the genre point of view, although this novel has pretty eerie moments, I did not feel truly scared. This novel is again written in the third person. For me, the novel became a process to see how the investigation team would put all the clues together, and also how the different strands and the new and old crimes fitted in. How would an eminently practical team accept what the clues seemed to point at and how would they confront such otherworldly forces?
Once again I think one of the strong points is the team and the interaction between its members we even get a new member, sort of, and some extra help and especially the fact that this time the strength of the bond between its members is put to the test in a very extreme way. I enjoyed the setting of the story in Northern Ireland, the reflections of the text on politic and religious matters there, and I enjoyed meeting two characters who become pivotal to the case and join forces with the depleted team I understand one of these characters had appeared in book 1 of the series but I have yet to read it.
The writing is dynamic and flows well, and the intrigue will keep readers turning the pages, although it does not move at neck-breaking pace. There is sufficient detail to allow the readers to easily imagine where things are taking place without slowing the action, and despite the tense moments, there are also plenty of light and humorous interactions that allow us a bit of a break from the tension. I know that some people do not enjoy books with satanic themes.

I recommend it to those who enjoy mysteries, police procedural novels, who are especially interested in a Northern Irish setting, and who are willing to stretch their imagination beyond the usual suspects. Mar 22, Lilyn G. I read this book as a member of Rosie's Book Review team, and therefore received the book for free. This does not affect my review. I chose to read The Coven Murders because even though it was a mystery, which is not something I often enjoy anymore, there was the promise of a daemonic element to it that made me curious.
Having not read any of Brian O'Hare's previous works in the past, I had no idea what to expect. However, the positive reviews on Goodreads made me hopeful. The setting of Ireland had a lot to do with my decision as well. For the most part, I'm pleased with what I read. Although, as usual, I'd figured out who the killer was within pages of meeting them.
I don't think that's a failure on the author's part as much as it is evidence that I read too much.
Nov 26, Heather rated it really liked it. The novel is set in Northern Ireland where the police force is bombarded with both the discovery of a skeleton and a series of murders. With the potential linking of the two cases and the strange whiff of supernatural in the air, Chief Inspector Sheehan and his team work hard to try and find the culprit before anyone else is murdered. I am very proud to announce that I guessed the identity of the murderer pretty early on I hereby expect to be addressed as Sherlock Holmes… or Chief Inspector Sheehan, a commendable detective indeed possibly because I read too much crime fiction.
There is some interesting history to the Protestant-Catholic conflicts still prominent over there included in the story. The imagery, particularly during the festival scene, is fantastic. Overall the dialogue is very good, however, it does sometimes border on stereotypical with the upper-class characters being veeery posh and the dodgier guys really showing it! The police and forensics team itself are a real treat — such vibrant and comedic characters! It can never be emphasised enough just how valuable a sub-plot is to adding new dimensions to characters and achieving that all-important sense of verisimilitude.
There is a very small quantity, both in film and literature, of characters who have long-term stammers. I also found Andrew a complete and utter sweetheart and hope he finds some happiness in the next book. Overall I found this a stimulating read with wonderfully written characters. Feb 14, Robin Chambers rated it it was amazing. I imagine that in such a place, it is as easy to believe in the Devil as it is to believe in God. In this story, the devils and their minions are very real. It opens with a prologue containing a vivid description of the depraved actions of a Satanic cult, leaving the reader in no doubt what the current case will focus on.
We see a human sacrifice committed, twenty-one years before a couple of hikers find skeletal remains in a dingly dell and Inspector Sheehan embarks on the unravelling of the case. What is far less clear, however, is who is committing a whole string of murders with an apparently identical MO, twenty-one years later.
As each of the murders is committed, it seems increasingly likely that someone is targeting the cult He has done his research, and there is plenty of convincing detail to lend credence to the tale. It is on record that Martin Luther once threw his inkhorn at the devil.

When I was growing up, the spilling of salt always occasioned the throwing of some of it over your left shoulder. I learned later that this practice was based on the belief that the devil stands behind your left shoulder and the salt is intended for his eyes. Inspector Sheehan and his team need more than inkhorns and an occasional pinch of salt to deal with the demons in this particular case.
