The story encompasses the Comanche's way of life, including spirituality and animal symbolism. Along the way, the reader will find suspense, colorful and dramatic descriptiveness, a charming romance, and an unusual, yet fascinating, adversary. This is an excellent story for adult readers of any age. Set in Texas, the author J. Chalfant does and excellent job of weaving the history of the Comanche and Texans through the character of Pohoi. Faced with horrible family tragedy as a teenager Pohoi rises above prejudices of age, race and sex to truly discover who she is. But it is only after Yellow Bear tracks her location and brings with him her aunts unwanted child that Pohoi realizes her real battle may be in the place she least expected.
