Dec 08, Shaun Merrill rated it really liked it Shelves: This series provides some delightfully surprising symbolism that I thoroughly enjoyed. When they lost the diamonds in the cave, then Maggie lost her memory, I was struck by the parallelism of those two events. Just like the briefcase of priceless diamonds that tumbled down the abyss, Maggie lost what was most precious to her: When Jack retrieves the diamonds, Maggie retrieves her memories. I also loved the climax on the cliffs overlooking the place where it all started.

As far as story line goes, this book kept me guessing. I really didn't know what Jack was going to do about Imogene. The characters were delightful. I was very impressed by the way the story washed over me in layers, little by little. The villainy of Imogene was very believable too, and all the more chilling because of her emotional manipulation of characters.

Powerfully told, engrossing, and meaningful. Mar 23, Megan rated it really liked it Recommends it for: I was so excited that this book came out! I absolutely loved the first two books! I finished it in two days! It would've been faster, had I had more time to read it. I loved the twists of the plot in the book. The beginning was pretty predictable, but I like it when I can predict it.

The rest of the book just twisted and turned constantly! I thought one thing was going to happen, and the exact opposite happend! This book was wonderful, but I could've been better. The editor must not have gone th I was so excited that this book came out! The editor must not have gone through this very well, because there were lots of grammar and punctuation mistakes. Most books have one or two, this had quite a few. In the end, this book was really good and I would reccommend it to just about anyone!

Dec 10, Megan rated it it was amazing Shelves: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I liked this one just as much as the first and second!!!!!! This one was the most unpredictable, and it had a lot of awesome adventure. When Maggie lost her memory, and Wesley stepped on a Stonefish, and Teddy died, and Maria got married, and all of that awesomeness, it was amazingly incredible, unpredictable, the whole nine yards.

This is one of my all time favorite series, books, etc. I read it in a day, and just loved it. The books ahev so much packed into them, that you wonder, after everything you read about in the summmary, if it will ever end, and you're shocked at how much you have left and wonder what will happen and how it will end. It was miraculous, I just loved this book and I love the series. Mar 14, Rhonda rated it it was amazing. Either way I like the series. Full of action, dramas, interesting characters and just a well told story. Alex has disappeared right before his wedding to Maria.

Wesley thinks its more than cold feet that made Alex text his breakup. No one believes him. So Alex and Amanda decide to try and find him. They find him and get kidnapped themselves. Missing diamonds in a old cave system with lots of bats, snakes and other wild life.

It goes from one dangerous adventure to another. Exciting right to the last page. Aug 29, Simon rated it liked it. The third book in the almost unknown series Serpent Tide, by K. Fogg equally unknown , Diamondback Cave appears to me as an attempt to draw in an older crowd. The previous two books were aimed at readers at a third to sixth grade reading level.

While Diamondback Cave's style remains ideal for this level, the plot line seems a poor attempt to create drama and romance.

As far as I can tell, all this has done is make the younger readers skip over the "gushy" parts. In all, this is a good book and The third book in the almost unknown series Serpent Tide, by K. In all, this is a good book and necessary to finish the story presented by the first two books, but I really only recommend this for young readers and those looking for a quick read.

Feb 16, Anneke rated it really liked it. I read this the third book before I read 'Widow's Revenge' the sequel to the first book and I still understood most of what had happened from references and clues. It's not like Harry Potter where they flat out tell you what has happened before, which is buggery. I liked this book, but it did get quite predictable. The first book of the series is good but wanting a sequel. But having not read the second book, I don't know whether this was a good addition to the trilogy that K.

Fogg has created so far. Oct 22, Brad rated it liked it Shelves: This book concludes Fogg's trilogy, and is a little bit of a change of pace from the first two.

The first half of the book feels like the previous books did, but then things are resolved and the family has to deal with some psychological issues rather than the physical dangers they have been through. It was interesting, but unexpected. It's a clean, fun, exciting series, and would be a good book for a parent to read with their elementary school-aged child.

PG for some intense content. Sep 27, Cheryl rated it really liked it Shelves: Wes and Amanda decide they are on the case. They track Alex to a cave this is known to be infested with rattlesnakes. What are they going to do? None of it was very believable, and it seemed to jump around a lot. As soon as they get over one problem, a new, bigger problem comes up, which was kind of annoying. They did have several funny parts in them, though. I thought Jack was pretty funny at times.

For some reason, it seemed to me that Wesley wasn't as well developed as the other characters, even though he's the main character. Nov 06, brittanyb rated it it was amazing. I loved this book, I read this one first out of all the others even though it is the last book, but it didnt give away too much about the other books and it gives enough information to know what they are talking about!

It is adventureous, mysterious, and a little bit romantic. It was quite a thriller, that made you want to keep reading on and on to the end. By the end you will wish there was another book to read. Again I loved this book it was really sad at some parts and really funny at others. I've really come to love the characters of these books and I'm sure I'll enjoy them over and over time and time again. I'd highly recommend this series and have to anyone who loves good family morales, funny characters, and a never ending adventure. Apr 21, Lisa the Librarian rated it liked it. This was my least favorite of the trilogy. He also has some very calm reactions that don't feel real at all. He's just found out the rather earth-shattering to a year-old thing--his mother isn't really his mother at all, and instead his father is a world-famous TV star!

And he takes it really, really calmly. He doesn't feel any kind of anger, or hatred, or confusion until the end, when he hates Imogene for possibly drowning his father. And maybe hatred would have been strong before, but why isn't he angry at her for lying to him? For that matter, why does he trust Jack instantly?

Sure, Jack's his father and a TV star, but you shouldn't launch yourself into a hug with someone you just met. Most kids would probably freeze up, not do that. The author is preachy. Now, I know theme is important to a book.

Serpent Tide

But when the author is including lines about how Wesley remembered how caged he felt as a rich kid, and now he's glad his parents make him pick up after himself paraphrased, but part of the ending chapter of Serpent Tide , it's no longer theme: It's being shoved in your face. I don't need you to tell me how grateful I should be to have grown up normal, or how grateful I should be to my parents, which is what this feels like. I'm grateful to them without the author's help. And kids may not realize they should be grateful to their parents, but preaching at them won't help with that. The author needs to try harder to incorporate the theme into the actual plot, if that was the theme she was aiming at.

And yet, Fogg spins an entertaining tale, which is why I've read it as many times as I have. I've also read the other two books once each, a long time ago , and they're also entertaining. I'm actually a bit disappointed that she's written nothing else, because I want to see if she's improved on these things and see what other stories she has in her. I liked Serpent Tide because the characters were interesting and the plot was full of twists and turns. Fogg made me question what I knew about the characters over and over again. I disliked it because although there were twists some parts were a little predictable. I also think that she could have been a tiny bit more original.

Nevertheless I believe it is a good book and I think the book would be good for someone in grade 5 through 9. Written for mi Poor rich-kid Wesley suffers from an over-protective mother, a case of aqua-phobia, and bullies at school.

Written for middle-grade, Serpent Tide should appeal to the worries children feel at that age, as well as their sense of adventure. The plot is straightforward and moves along at a steady clip, with well-paced action. An interesting aspect to this story are the moral dilemmas of the characters. Should Imogene's illegal immigrant housekeeper tell Wesley the truth about his origins?

How can Jack get over the death of his wife when he feels it was his fault? Those were interesting things to discuss with my eight-year-old daughter as I read this story to her. My main complaints are that Fogg uses some big words that middle-readers wouldn't know, and some of her writing kind of hits you over the head saying, "Look at this, duh.

Oct 21, 04MelanieS rated it really liked it. Fogg is exciting and suspenseful there are many examples of that throughout the book, but I have decided that the book is not as good at making all of the conversations in the book meaningful to the plot of the book. I will prove my point in the new few moments. First of all on page Jack is surprised by opening a box sent from an anonymous person with a snake inside. This is an example of a very exciting, suspenseful part in the book. But a little bit after the most suspenseful part in the book when you are still waiting to see what will happen next Maggie says something that could have not been said and the book still would have made complete sense.

Another example of a very exciting part in this book is on page when Imogene takes Wesley away from the Scott family for the first time. So they are all in their house wondering what they could do to get Wesley back.

Diamondback Cave

If he was okay, and what they could do to best help him get away from Imogene. I thought another not important conversation in the book was on page after they know that Jack has lost his sight. And Maggie says no and then hangs up the phone. I thought out of all of the conversations that could have been taken out of the book this one was the most obvious.

It had nothing to do with the plot. As you can see from the evidence above, this book is over all a great book but does need to have somethings taken out of it. Mar 21, Melissa added it. It didn't take long before I was hooked. Fogg certainly knows how to keep her readers entranced, and even though I was just listening to instead of reading the book I have no doubt that if I had been reading it I would have blown through this book just as quickly if I had the time.

I loved the adventures that Wesley had and how he finally got to reunite with his father. I have to say I had a hard time not laughing out loud at some of the things Jack would say. Not only was this book very entertaining it was enjoyable and something I know I will listen to over and over again just for the sheer enjoyment of it.
