It's easy to do. Simply click here to return to Pottery Wheel Stories. Susan Hi if someone has a mold for wheel heads or manual I would appreciate and if anyone has used a steel wheel head I would appreciate the manufacturer name So excited to get started with my new purchase Thanks!! Frank Tomizuka Informational post: I bought a motorized Randall and wanted to use the motor but I throw leftie clockwise.
There is no reverse switch on the motor so I took it to an electric motor shop to see if they could do it.
The guy I saw said he wasn't sure but he would try. When I picked it up he said it worked and was easy. There were even instructions on how to reverse the motor inside the housing. He charged me 10 bucks. I must say that while the reversed motor works it chatters a bit because of the angle of the drive.
The motor is still in the way of your kicking foot and it does not work to just bolt the motor to the other side. I took it off and am just using it manually pedally. I have a Randall wheel for sale. Sep 11, Rating wheel head NEW by: Vicki I am trying to find a wheel head for my Randall kick wheel.

Anonymous Hello I just got a beautiful tractor seat Randall Kick Wheel with a place for a bat, but not bats. I would like to either get a wheelhead made or bats for this. I am not at all talented in the make-your-own-wheelhead department.
I appreciate any help so I can use this beautiful wheel. Thank you, Marcia in California. Jess I'm willing to make copies if anyone needs them. Jack D I am assuming you got this corrected long since but if not here you go. The wheel head on a Randal is tapered as is the shaft end.
The head just pushes down on the shaft and is help in place by friction. A god penetrating oil will usually help break it free. The first time you remove it after applying the penetrating oil you should use a pulley puller that has three jaws and is long and wide enough to grip under the head this method will remove the head with little difficulty. Auto parts store will likely loan you the puller.
Kick the wheel up to speed and the sand the rust and crap off the shaft. A cheep battery cleaning tool that has a tapered wire brush will help to buff out the hole in the head. Once you get is all cleaned up don't use too much oil on the head.

I moved and bought the bat molds years later. I have three sizes. I remember we made the bats on a formica counter to ensure a flat surface, using Crisco as a release. Now I use Murphys for that kind of thing. I also remember how much it hurt my forearm to sponge out the monster splash pan, after we had removed the final bat in the evening. Here is what most people struggle with at first when trying to throw a plate out of clay: My Mini-course, Pottery on the Wheel for Beginners. This short video covers the basics of throwing a plate on the potter's wheel- and an easy way to "cheat" to get the edge perfectly centered if you have an issue with that. One important thing I didn't emphasize in the video is the need to really compress the bottom several times. Lack of compression always results in "s" cracking in the bottom. If you want more specific information on other methods of throwing, or even just the beginning stages of centering, dropping, or opening, check out some of my other videos!
