Nurses Are the Heart of Healthcare - Exploring your mind
I traveled abroad from my native country, and the first career that came to mind was to be a doctor. I wanted to spark a fire, the fire of real-time caring and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that is only unique to the nursing profession. After finishing high school, I immediately enrolled in nursing school despite having some challenges.
It seemed that each semester a family member would be sick, and that created a distraction from my studies. I was very persistent, though. I eventually finished school and it was official: I was a Registered Nurse. As I started my career as a nurse fresh from nursing school, there were some areas of high interest and some that I did not particularly like.
My concentrated area of practice was in the medical-surgical field. In this field, I had encountered everything possible.

In this specialty, my passion for nursing grew and I encountered families that were concerned for their loved ones before and after surgery. I also experienced the death and dying process that I seemed to have a deep connection with and had the opportunity to teach patients and nurses about this. Two of my passions and spiritual connections in this field are caring and education. I am a very caring individual, and I would often go to the limits to please a patient.

One example was the experience with a patient who was expected to enter into the eternal realms at any moment, and no one wanted to care for this patient. I was assigned this patient and, for some reason on the day I was his assigned nurse, there was a change in responsiveness. He became more alert and was able to communicate appropriately, which he could not do on previous days.
I would talk to him every time I would give his medications or just make rounds. Later in the evening, he spoke to me and requested a cigarette just to hold to his mouth. Those words resonated through my mind with a chill.
