I did feel the need to smack Alex quite frequently, but he's a teenager, so I guess I can't expect too much from him.

When I'm reading, I sometimes have trouble remembering that I was an idiot too back then. BDSM relationships take a lot of trust, and I would never trust someone who just up and left me, esp. And Alex just taking Peter back with an I'm sorry, when Peter hadn't contacted him for weeks?

Dec 19, Achim rated it really liked it Shelves: Although Alex takes flight f Emma's right: Although Alex takes flight from that club and the relationship with Peter at the end of part 5 he gives in again and comes back. I only could understand that considering Alex' youth, his low self-esteem and a need for a caring but dominant father figure.
That surely is also the reason why they never talked about that night and what it meant for Alex to loose his trust in Peter. On that field they still seem to fit perfectly but Peter doesn't see that Alex is longing for something else and Alex can't tell him. There is a lingering doom over Alex head that is getting bigger with every moment he is dreading to talk with Peter. When Mark breaks again into their relationship it becomes obvious how fragile that arrangement actually is.
The situation culminates when Alex's accompanies Peter on his trip to his vineyard on Mark's suggestion who made it also clear that he likes to have a go at the twink on that occasion. It would be a spoiler to tell you if Mark is getting his way, if Peter prooves to be the wrong dom for Alex or if their relationship survives. Figure I can tell that Alex is growing a bit more mature, that he is getting a bit more balanced but that process is too fast to tell if it's a lasting change or just a step made in the heat of the moment.
Be aware that this story is written completely on Alex POV with all his insecurities mixed with youthful bravado - Peter obviously doesn't recognize that. At the end of "His" Peter is still an enigma for me.
Tale of a Twink Series
The author doesn't give a hint about his motive, about his feelings, about his character. She probably can't provide such a hint while it's only Alex POV and he's not able to talk with Peter and Peter doesn't recognize how necessary that is.
So in the end there are a lot of open questions to be answered in the next installment. There are scenes that felt rushed like Alex' flight out of the building view spoiler [what kind of person does it make you letting your partner run into the night at a foreign surrounding nakes and afraid and you only make a search attempt and then go to sleep hide spoiler ] and not all character developments are understandable e. Alex' final confrontation with Mark view spoiler [ bully or not I can't really believe that Alex can stare Mark down so easily, not yet anyway hide spoiler ].
So the rating might not be a strong 4 but more somewhere on the way to a 4 but good enough to be rounded up. Expected release date either the 22nd or the 23rd of Dec. It's been too long coming, but it will feel good to finish this part of Peter and Alex's life and begin plotting out their next story, which will be novel length.

Possessed by Arielle Pierce
Chantale rated it liked it Nov 04, Some of us tried pretty hard to break out of the formula, but we usually got caught and sent back. To exceed the limits of a formula without destroying it is the dream of every magazine writer who is not a hopeless hack. Critics and writers, including W. Yet the detective Philip Marlowe is not a stereotypical tough guy, but a complex, sometimes sentimental man with few friends, who attended university, who speaks some Spanish and sometimes admires Mexicans, and who is a student of chess and classical music.
He is a man who refuses a prospective client's fee for a job he considers unethical. The high regard in which Chandler is generally held today is in contrast to the critical sniping that stung the author during his lifetime. In a March letter to Blanche Knopf, published in Selected Letters of Raymond Chandler , he wrote, "The thing that rather gets me down is that when I write something that is tough and fast and full of mayhem and murder, I get panned for being tough and fast and full of mayhem and murder, and then when I try to tone down a bit and develop the mental and emotional side of a situation, I get panned for leaving out what I was panned for putting in the first time.
Although his work enjoys general acclaim today, Chandler has been criticized for certain aspects of his writing. The Washington Post reviewer Patrick Anderson described his plots as "rambling at best and incoherent at worst" notoriously, even Chandler did not know who murdered the chauffeur in The Big Sleep [1] and criticized Chandler's treatment of black, female, and homosexual characters, calling him a "rather nasty man at times". Chandler's short stories and novels are evocatively written, conveying the time, place and ambiance of Los Angeles and environs in the s and s.
Playback is the only one of his novels not to have been cinematically adapted. William Faulkner was a co-writer of the screenplay. Chandler's few screenwriting efforts and the cinematic adaptation of his novels proved stylistically and thematically influential on the American film noir genre. Notable for its revised take on both the Marlowe character, transplanting the novel to the s, is Robert Altman 's neo-noir adaptation of The Long Goodbye.
Chandler was also a perceptive critic of detective fiction; his essay " The Simple Art of Murder " is the canonical essay in the field. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
