It takes place in Morocco and I enjoyed learning more about the culture there and also about some events that took place there I didn't know about.

I have found this series to be a real page turner, but maybe not written as well as it could be since she is writing many years after it happened and had to change some things to protect identities. Oct 03, Tiffany rated it it was amazing. She is also a countess which enables her to hobnob in prestegious circles. The book reads like a fiction and is very interesting. It's hard to believe this stuff is real.
Mar 19, Carla rated it liked it. I think I liked this one the best of the three books. It's not cut and dried and neatly packaged at the end. The mission essentially failed, but the other things that were accomplished far outweighed the failure to reach the primary goal. I would like to meet the Countess. She sounds like a remarkable woman who would be interesting to get to know. Mar 08, Luann rated it liked it Shelves: This is the third in a series of stories by Aline Countess of Romanones - I haven't read the second one yet - but didn't enjoy this one as much as her first book.
Not sure why, perhaps it just moved a little too slow for me or because I knew who the mastermind of the coup was. I'll still go back and read the second book in the series because I do find the subject manner fascinating. Jul 05, Robbie rated it it was amazing. Same review as the first two: Mar 15, Chloe Castello rated it really liked it.
I really enjoyed these books.
The Spy Wore Silk
This is definitely one of my favorites. Sometimes it gets confusing with all the names and facts. My favorite part is how the story is told. If you want a non-fiction read definitely pick up these books. Aug 29, Nfreynolds rated it really liked it. I like this because it is a trip through Morocco in the 's by car over dirt roads through villages and areas I will never go.
She is very good at describing her adventures as well as adding mystery and intrigue. It is also another great vacation read by this author, who I enjoy. Very excitting This is the second book of hers I have read. I am always amazed by the build up of intrigue.
I t is not always the ending you expect.

In this case again fact is better than fiction. Nov 28, Karen rated it liked it Shelves: After reading this book I really want to go to Morocco! Aline definitely leads a very interesting life. This book was good and interesting. I like reading the history from the view of someone that actually experienced it. Feb 15, Briony rated it it was amazing. This one had a slightly different flavor than the other two, maybe because it mostly takes place in Morocco. Also it's a little more risque than the other two, but once again it's difficult to remember that it's not fiction.
Scary the things that go on in this world. Oct 24, Cynthia rated it liked it. What I found most enjoyable about this book was Aline's descriptions of her travels through the Moroccan countryside and her insights into Moroccan culture, people, and friendships. The espionage story line was thin, and the writing was a bit stilted. Overall, I enjoyed the book. Jul 21, Linda Hoover rated it really liked it. An interesting, fictionalized account of a real-life lady spy. While I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under the age of 18 or so, it is a fascinating look into the world of the CIA from a woman spy's perspective!
Jan 27, Hana rated it it was amazing. What an adventurous book!!!

You should read it if you enjoyed fatima oufkir's books, especially "stolen lives"! Nov 16, Darren added it Shelves: I registered a book at BookCrossing. May 07, Tammy Zimmerman rated it it was amazing. Life felt calm here, an ancient serenity. On an alleyway in the heart of this tiny nook of a neighborhood, the anxious buzzing in my chest reached a crescendo—I felt so out of place, so unclean for bringing my presence here.
In a country like India, your buttons are constantly pushed and prodded. You are confronted with something massively different and difficult. You can be a part of life here but you can never be a part of here. You can never quite become fluent in it. My identity is totally washed away. I am just foreign, equally unbound by the local ethnic, class, or religious identities.
My name is too Jewish, my looks too Jewish-American. To escape that is liberating. And when you adopt local customs and the language, people are thrilled to take you in, impressed and flattered by your interest. The way Hindu people have reacted to me when I have a dot on my forehead—as proselytizing as that reaction may be—is so welcoming and excited. And because I can never be of here, I can cross cultural borders, hear all the sides.
There is even a challenge aspect to it. People have started approaching me in Hindi instead of English over the past few weeks and the feeling of transcending barriers, getting to peek in, is intoxicating and exhilarating. If I can fit in here, without an identity, an empty page, then I can do anything.

For a moment, I saw something that few people from my country will ever get to see. I was alone in Bangkok; so far away from everything I am. I realized on that spot, that I could do it in India, too. I could take my outsider education and knowledge, my image as an outsider, and project it as validity, while still speaking the language. I could be both.
I could just move here, leave behind my family and girlfriend. For that moment in Bangkok, this ran in my head. And it was a relief. The cord is your family, your loved ones and your homeland.
