Its a Regency romance. The main female lives in the slums of England. I don't really remember who the hero was, he was an earl or something i think, and he takes her in and makes her over. But near the end of the book I think they have a fight and she returns to the slums just as a cholera outbreak hits. She has a prostitute friend who dies and because she then catches cholera as well, she loses the baby she was pregnant with.
I don't know the book and really want to read it again. She is English but she grew up in the Paris slums. The Earl seeks her out for revenge complicated plot and then agrees to marry her back in England. They have a short lived blissful time but then have a big disagreement she learns the truth about him and she goes back to Paris and the slums. There is a cholera epidemic there after she leaves him in England. I think she did lose a baby, but I can't remember for sure. It was a really good book. He has a scarred face and this is the last of a trilogy of brothers.

It is set later when the girl is a young lady and she meets again with the kid she fell in love with and they have an affair and blah blah you know the rest haha.

I remember very little about the book. I can't remember the title, author or even the character's names since its been a while since I read it The children aren't her own. The kids were given up by their parents, because they were poor. Everyone is under the impression that the husband is kind by taking in these poor kids, but in reality he abuses them.
I think he might've even been a pedophile? No one knows his secret except the heroine. But she escapes with these children and tries to go back and save the rest of them. I don't quite remember how she meets the hero of the story, but I think he's titled as well and he tries to help out the heroine by formulating a plan since her husband is well-known. Random facts I remember about from this book is that the heroine was also abused by her husband and I think punished by being put in a cage? It sounds a little like Fairest of them All by Theresa Medeiros, but I don't think the plot points all match up. The heroine is a beauty in disguise, but I don't remember the land being razed. I have been searching for a contemporary romance novel for years.
The heroine thinks she is dating a guy but he is an FBI agent? I believe she is a secretary and it looks as if her boss is involved in baby smuggling or some other type of illegal activity. She is taken down to the police station, in front of everyone at work I believe and the young brash agent along with his older much more mature partner question her for hours. The brash agent even scares her by mentioning having to go into witness protection. They are apparently holding her long enough so they can install a wire tap in her house. When she meets up with him the hero who wants revenge against this man kidnaps her and gets shot in the process.
I think the guy was going to kill her after she gave him the information. They hole up in a hotel for a while, he is a widower and his ex-wife was a supermodel? Remember her having to wear some of her clothing and then they made out on the balcony but he gets distracted when he sees the magazine she was reading which has the dead wives face on it. They fall in love and get together for the first time while out dancing one night. I also believe she is a red head and is described as making a transition as the story goes on gaining confident and not appearing as mousy in looks anymore.
Sorry for the long post guys, this book has been driving me crazy! I think it was a Harlequin romance but I'm not positive. Here is what it's about: The book starts in the past when the main female character's father had just died. Her best friend's brother - whom she had a crush on as a child - asks her to marry him as a friend and move away - I think to the middle east, maybe Dubai?
Anyway, the female character was a librarian at home but when they move away, he is busy working in the construction business, so she begins writing. She becomes a very popular crime writer while they are away - unbeknownst to him. Then his father has a heart attack and they must come home - I'm thinking about 3 yrs later. While back home they must act like an actual couple - so they have to sleep in the same room and of course things begin to change. While home he is asked to take over his father's company, and he also finds out about her writing accomplishments - and of course they start to have a relationship.

It is a regency romance and the heroine for some reason disguises herself as a footman? He goes to extremes to keep her safe, even almost killing her because a fire breaks out while she is locked in her room. He becomes very close to the heroine and has a strange attraction to her strange because he doesn't know she is female and he is a known skirt chaser. I also really remember that her gender is revealed during a fencing match between the two of them.
One other thing was that during a dinner, she was sitting next to him after being revealed as a woman and he took advantage of the fact she was wearing pants if you get my drift? Maybe she was pretending to be another nobleman? I really wish I could remember more! I think you are right. I know it's something that I have read. Absolutely Duchess By Night. New to this group and plagued with title of book i read in the late 80's early 90's. Set in California I believe Heroine called Mel finds she has improbably only a few months of fertility left to her. Sets out to seduce someone, fails and then asks her brother's best friend also her best friend who lives nearby. He finally accepts the challenge and things get going to make her pregnant.
This was quite a witty story. Finally she has twins and marries the guy. Sorry forget the guys name but the jerk of a brother was Donny. Maybe The Stud by Barbara Delinsky. It was something like that but I'm not sure about the brother and twins. No that does not sound right. The female character starts out at a convent which her brother placed her in for punishment in not following his orders. I think he wanted her to marry someone. She was then kidnapped by the main male character, enemy of her brother, where in the process she was cut by a knife in her leg by her guards. She remained loyal to her brother throughout the book even though everyone tries to convince her otherwise. I think the brother had six fingers on one hand I really hope someone can help me with this, since I can't seem to get it out of my head and I'm driving myself crazy.
I read a book in probably early to mid 90's, contemporary romance. The heroine is a secretary for a law firm, barely making ends meet, raising 2 younger brothers and taking care of a sick grandfather. The hero is a lawyer, maybe state attorney, he's wealthy. A couple of year's ago, I read a book thatwas, for the most part, set at the turn of the 20th century I think Somehow, a modern day girl ended up switching bodies with a girl from the era the modern girl being nicely adventurous and the historical girl a complete witch. Regardless, the once-modern-now-stuck-in-the-past-heroine falls in love with two brothers, who were the results of a similar attachment between their mutual mother and different fathers.

Z Mar 31, , Sorry it's kind of fuzzy. I have been trying to remember the name of this book for a little while. I read it a few years ago. It is a historical romance set in England and this girl is forced to marry a man from close to or in Scotland I think.
I know that on their way to his home after they are married they have to stop at this fort where she is almost raped. She hates it where he lives but somehow learns to love him. I can't remember why but she ends up leaving and going back to her parents house towards the end of the book. She finds out after she gets there that shes pregnant. The man shows back up to get her right as she goes into labor in the garden. That is all I remember and I hope someone can help me figure out what this book is. I know I have the book somewhere but in moving three times in two years it is missing and I can't have my husband help me look if we don't know what to look for.
I think this is one of Julie Garwood's books, but I can't remember which one. There's a storm or something, and both end up having to stay in the house for the duration of the project. Of course, they fall back in love during their time in the house. I think there was also something about their unborn babies casting a spell to make them fall in love - it might have been part of a matchmaking babies series.

All I remember about the plot was that she's a red head that is indentured to a horrible individual. Afterward a group of men from their tribe show up and she falls for one of them. I forget exactly what he is in the tribe, but I think he may have been some sort of medicine man or other well respected man in the tribe.

I believe it was set in Victorian times and involved a young woman that stows away on a ship, but she is dressed as a boy so she is the servant to the male character. I think when they arrive at the mainland, she does something with the theater or is a singer. Anyway, as the story progresses, she ends up pregnant wich is unknown to her love interest, and she saves a small child from a burning pile of leaves which then causes her to have a miscarriage. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I read the first few chapters of this book a few months ago and cannot remember the title or author and it's driving me nuts!
Anyway i believe it's a historical romance set in old England sometime. And it's about a young lady who is poor and lives with her father on a rich man's property. She used to play with the masters son whe they were children but they grew apart and she sees him again now that they are older and they don't get along. She gets in some trouble money wise I think and he offers to help. She makes a deal with him that once a week or something he gets to do whatever he wants with her for an increasing amount of time. So it starts with like 60 seconds and goes to 2 minutes and so on.
That's all I remember.. I'm dying to read the rest! I'm just going to jump right in It's a contemporary romance She then is questioned at the police station and the hero, who she had strong feelings for, basically abandons her and leaves town. I remember the funeral scene where the heroine, no longer a suspect, tries to hold the hero's hand but he wouldn't let her.
Fast forward, the girl is grown up now, she stayed at the mansion where she was raised, taking care of the family business when the hero returns. The matriarch is now old and needs to decide who she wants to leave the bulk of her inheritance to - the hero grandson or heroine adopted or family friend's daughter who has been with her all this time or something like that. I remember something about the heroine still being haunted by the night she discovered the murder scene, she has nightmares and screams in her sleep.
I think she also sleepwalks. In the end the matriarch gives everything to the grandson. Can anyone help me figure this out? I know my description isn't very good but hopefully it will trigger someone's memory. Its a historical romance set during WW2. Consummation was a rape scene! They got a son,Luis. This is a really old one, probably from or so. Two young brothers are on a ship, sailing from France to America, with their parents and sister. In a storm, the younger brother is swept overboard and rescued by a couple who own a Southern plantation but could have no children of their own.
The rest of the family is rescued together and end up settling in the North. Flash forward several years to the advent of the Civil War. The older brother Alex? Somehow the two women Southern belle and Northern secret agent meet and figure out that they are in love with the brothers separated so long ago.
There was something hinky about the woman who rescued the younger boy and was scared that he would abandon her now that he found his real family, but I can't remember the details. I have the story stuck in my head, but for the life of me I cannot remember the title or the main characters names. This novel was set in the American West, most likely during the 19th century but I am not sure when exactly. The book starts off with an Eastern lady traveling out to her uncle's ranch in the west I think it was Texas? She was an eastern lady who came out to the ranch by train I think she was looking for a husband? She has a conflicted relationship with the ranch foreman or maybe he was just a ranch hand.

She doesn't know how to cook, or clean the house, or iron his clothes without ruining them and he mocks her for it. He refuses to allow her to have servants or any household help as she struggles with her new responsibilities. Eventually she works herself into the ground trying to please him and she miscarries the baby that forced them to be married in the first place.
There is some sort of slimy bad character who wants to cheat them out of the profits and success of all their hard work, but they defend themselves against him.. Eventually they realize they are in love and the well is a success. I would appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me!

This was one of the first romance novels I'd ever read and I remember loving the story. Came across another I had forgotten but enjoyed immensely: Amanda Rose by Karen Robards. The first part sounds like Lady of the West by Linda Howard but the last part where she loses the baby doesn't.

She has her old nanny and a younger sister who is very beautiful, but has intellectual disabilities. At some point, someone tries to kidnap her sister. The second book is actually the first part of a trilogy. It was also an historical set in England. All I remember is that there were three sisters who somehow became separated and they belonged to a theatrical family. The third is more recent and is the first of a trilogy of three sisters. Also an historical, the sisters are fashionistas and set up their shop in London. This story is about the oldest sister who has a daughter.
There is a fire started by a rival that burns down their shop and they move into the love interests home. If so, you might be interested in knowing that the third book in the series is due out this month. I've been finding this book for years!!! She tries to rob a nobleman and he captures her and takes her to his home to be punished. When they go to spank her they figure out she is a she and he decides to keep her and train her to be a lady.
In the end she ends up being or looking like someone important that they were looking for all along. Some other random things: I think she had her first "tub" bath and compared it to bathing in the Thames. I believe she had long red hair. During regency time in London, somehow the heroine is passing as a servant boy in the hero house, I think that she tried to rob him, but the hero was sorry and gave her a job instead and then the hero some lord starts to have feelings for the 'boy', when he finds it's a girls instead, he makes her his mistress and in the end eventually they get married.
I think that she also was someone important who was kidnapped and got amnesic. I do not have a lot of information but it starts in London. This woman who is living with her aunt and uncle is sent to live with the aunts brother. The aunts brother makes advances towards the woman. She tries to escape and the brother is killed in the fray. She runs from the house and is snatched up and taken to a ship captain because she is mistaken for a prostitute. After that night she goes back home to her aunts and uncles she ends up being pregnant and they make the captain take her with him as he was leaving to America after they collected money from him.
He thinks he was tricked and makes it hard for the woman. She becomes very ill on the ride to America. He lived on a plantation of sorts with a woman neighbor he was intimate with. The neighbor is very jealous of his wife they were married in a quick ceremony before they left london the thought of the murder of her aunts brother follows her and she believes she is at fault. I think there was another character that was rhe brothers accomplice he was a creepy, slight kind of man. I hope someone can help me and I get the chance to help someone else!

I don't remember much of the plot of the story or the names of the characters 'coz I read this book a while back. What I do remember though is that this book is kinda on the adult romance genre. The story starts where a beautiful virgin young woman daughter of a man of power - probably a politician gets raped by a fat, short and old diplomat not really sure if he's a diplomat but he scares the girl by saying she can't tell anyone 'coz he has immunity in that country.
After being raped she is kidnapped by the same diplomat but she gets saved by a man love interest 1 but then she gets caught again by the diplomat and after some time saved by another man love interest 2. She then gets abducted by tribal people and she was deemed to be "the one" deity or something maiden or sun goddess because of her beauty. Love interests 1 and 2 joins this ritual and 2 wins and they escape from the tribal people.
Going back to civilization she gets confronted by the two love interests to choose between them who she loves most. She chooses love interest 1 but near the end she realizes, she loves love interest 2 more so she leaves 1 for 2 and they live happily ever after. I forgot most of the scenes and it was a thick book so there were a lot of scenes I forgot I wanna read them again but I just can't remember details that will lead me to the book.

Her morning sickness gets so bad that she avoids callers; and then she's still so tired in the afternoon, that she cleverly avoids social calls and stays home to be well enough to go out for evening events tells Lady A that she'll be at Lady B's musical, tells Lady B she'll be elsewhere, etc. When her husband realizes that he is in love with her, he tries to track her down in the afternoon, going from point A to B to C, etc.
They both profess their love, he takes her back to the country, and everything ends well. Hi guys I'm new here! I need help finding this book. I of course can't remember the name of the book or author or even character names but heres what I do remember: The woman moves in with the cowboy, I think she works at a theater, or maybe she's a mail order bride, but the cowboy pretends to be his twin brother throughout the story, who she eventually falls in love with.
I remember there was an Indian couple living in the back yard and she helps the woman give birth. Also, at the end of the book is when she finds out that the guy has been playing as his rough and tough twin brother. If theres any way you can help me it would be much appreciated!!! She ends up falling in love with 'Lucas Holt' who had a twin brother 'Slade Holt'. Slade was brought up by Indians and is the rougher of the two. Lucas pretends to be both Lucas and Slade throughout the book to lure an enemy out of hiding.

I'm a noobie, but here goes Medieval setting, published in late 90's or early 's I think --Two or three related books--one has a heroine named Judith, she marries beneath her somewhat, to a fairly impoverished noble family. Her husband had mistresses he called by days of the week and she burned up their bed so he knew she wouldn't put up with it.
The family's name had falcon in it, I think. Another related one same author, some shared characters was about the impoverished knight's little sister, named Zerah or something similar, who had always dressed as a boy and learned to fight like a knight. She is bested in a fight or something, and the other knight knows at once she is a woman though no one else, even her sister in law from the other book, don't know. I hope someone knows these! This is so amazing, how some people know all of them! I had actually accidentally posted in another thread, and someone answered anyway, people are nice: I need help finding the title of this book!
Hopefully someone could help me - you all seem to have excellent memories. Its a fairly recent book I believe. But she has a big heart and is going to school to become a teacher. Things come to head when the sister gets sick. The real story is that the bf tried to have sex with the h, fed up with the spoiled nature of the sister, believing that the kind and sweet nature of the h was more his speed, but she denied him.
The bf goes off in a rage and promptly breaks up with the sister, spouting about how much better a person the h is than her, alluding that they had had sex. The sister runs to her brother, the H telling him how awful her friend, the h, is for sleeping with her bf. He tells her off, yelling about how they took her in and were kind to her, all the while she was a cheating backstabber, etc. Realizing that she had just been kidding herself and would never be good enough for the H, she leaves for a teaching job in Texas? Things quickly fall apart between the H and his sister, especially as she realizes that the was probably wrong and took her anger out on the wrong person.
The sister grows up and decides to become a nurse. Meanwhile the h is teaching in Texas where she is stabbed accidentally by a street kid when she gets in the middle of a fight. The H and the sister fly to her aide and bring her back to the ranch against her will. During her recuperation thats when the h and the H make up. Hoping someone can help me out with this.
I read a book as a teenager it might have been either a young adult or a general romance book about a girl who goes out west dressed as a boy. Unfortunately, I don't remember many details from it -- I think it had a mostly white cover with drawn characters in brown tones. It was probably from the early s, although it could have been the late s as well.
