It only added to the richness of the script. Detective Murphy was no slouch, either. I grew to dislike Alexandra and saw her as a conniving person who would do anything to get her story. Oddly enough, this was my first Cheryl Bradshaw mystery, and I am sure I will be reading more of her work. I immediately went to Amazon to look for others of her books. I want to thank NetGalley and Kobo Writing Life for forwarding to me a copy of this great book to read and enjoy. May 10, Rhonda Duckworth rated it liked it.
I love the Sloane Monroe series but for some reason this book just didn't hold my interest like the other books I've read by Cheryl Bradshaw. The style of writing just seemed different and the back and forth from past to present was somewhat distracting. The relationship between Finch and Joss seemed strained and unrealistic at times. Still a fan of Ms Bradshaw and look forward to more Sloane stories. I am a big fan of this author's Sloane Monroe series, so I was really excited to read this new book of her's. Not sure if it's a start to a new series, but I fell so hard for these characters that I really hope it is.
This writer is so very talented that her words just flow and the reader is caught up from the very first page. There doesn't have to be a gimmick or a big bang to catch the reader's interest as it's just this author's words that draw you in. This is an original mystery, and since I I am a big fan of this author's Sloane Monroe series, so I was really excited to read this new book of her's. This is an original mystery, and since I mostly read mysteries, it's hard for me to come across an original one.
The characters are so real and I can picture every one of them in my mind. The dialogue adds a lot to that. This is truly a mystery that I didn't see the ending coming until it was on me and then I was smacking my head, not believing what was right before my eyes. This isn't a cozy mystery but it certainly isn't full of gruesome killing either. It's just a really well written mystery with great characters that will keep you thinking through the whole thing.
What could be better than that? Sep 22, Deb rated it it was amazing. I loved the unique perspective from which the book is written, an author writing about an author. And this story has many twists and turns, surprises and secrets revealed as the search continues for a killer in the midst. The question is whose secret was so costly that they would kill for it. And it seems as if everyone has a close guarded secret. And even though there were multiple points of view, the story flowed seamlessly.

This had a plot within a plot, how she tied it all together was very unique.
Makes one ponder if there were traits in the family that came out. Also showed how far a person will go to get a story, being manipulative.
Midnight with the Devil by Emma Castle
The downside was the chapters of conversation with the guy in prison, too many. If this was to become a series, doubt if I would continue, for a darker side to mystery. Overall she did a great job. Writer Joss Jax attends a book signing for fellow writer Alexandra Weston, who is later found murdered in the bookstore bathroom. Joss decides to investigate her death to find out who woukd do this and why. There are quite a few theories and suspects. There are enough twists to keep you guessing throughout.
I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Aug 22, Virginia Tican rated it really liked it. Most of the characters in this book are so disgustingly selfish and amoral that it is almost nauseating.
And most of them are women with the exception of Joss and Loretta Pratt. What this book managed to clearly convey is that Everyone is capable of murder given the right motivation. It will probably take me quite awhile before I will even attempt to read something like this. This is just not my kind of reading thrill. Sep 05, Marco Morissette rated it it was amazing. A very good surprises with this book from author Chery Bradshaw with a plot who make us search with her main characters until the very last page! Unbeleivable twists during all the books who keep us on the edge and wants to turn to the next even when to tired!
Thanks to the author for sharing! It's been a while since I've read any of Cheryl Bradshaw's work, so I was looking forward to diving into this one, the first in her Joss Jax series. Bradshaw's ability to bring characters to life within a gripping and fast paced story make her one of the best thriller writers today.

Part thriller, part mystery. Alexandra, a well-known true crime novelist, is murdered and her fellow writer Joss Jax is determined to solve her murder.

I had no idea this was a paranormal book going in and that the H would actually be the devil. But I read the whole thing in one sitting, I enjoyed it that much. It had a bit of beauty and the beast, Phantom of the Opera and even a bit of twilight all mixed in together. I thought this was going to be alot darker, but it turned into quite the romantic novel. Highly recommend for someone looking for a misunderstood possessive bad boy. Its described he did "every sexual fantasy imaginable" but other than that there were no other details and you never meet any of his ex bed mates.

This took me by surprise in so many good ways. I mean holy cow! Since October is right around the corner I gave this book a chance thinking it was going to be a dark twisted story. She writes dark and edgy romance and I must say that she got me hooked and she is officially my romance author to look out for.
I loved it so much that I will be purchasing the physical copy to add to my book collection. We have an innocent girl name Diana, whose father has colon cancer and is about to pass away. I had no idea where this story was going and how it was going to end. I was not expecting the ending and took me by surprise and WOW! Emma Castle knows what she is doing. The story was a wonderful read for me. I love that we get the background story of the once favored angel and how he became what we know as the Devil. All the characters in the story I fell in love with.
The way Emma Castle described each character was perfect and well written. Diana went with her instinct and what she knew of the Devil before anything grew between them. This book is everything, my type of romance story. Sep 30, Anna rated it it was amazing. I expected one thing - the Devil takes an innocent female soul in exchange for the life of a loved one and they fall in love - but it is much more than that. Lucien Star, aka the Devil, Satan, Lucifer, fell from grace many years ago due to his pride. Charged with guarding hell, he needs to find a pure soul to keep the gates of Hell closed.
Her father is dying and she would do anything to keep him alive - including making a bargain with the devil.
The Devil Died at Midnight
The two characters are interesting. Lucien is arrogant, somewhat selfish, and a bit of an alpha male. Diana is kind-hearted, compassionate and a strong character learning what it is like to give herself to Lucien. The two are so different that they make an unlikely pair. I really enjoyed watching how their relationship evolved and talk about those steamy scenes! I really enjoyed Midnight with the Devil. The ending was phenomenal and I loved the epilogue. The book was entertaining and moved at a good pace. The characters were well developed with both strengths and flaws.
I liked the secondary character of Amara and I think I would have liked to seen more of her in the book. This is my first book by Emma Castle and it will not be my last. I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review. This story was one of those ones that had a steady build up for me.
It started off interesting enough. Then as the story progressed it held my attention more and more. Characters that I thought were just ok grew on me and had me seeing them differently. I felt like the characters got more depth the more I learned about them which is one of the things that make a good story for me. The synopsis already had me wanting to give it a chance. But Emma Castle executed the overall story fantastically. Sh This story was one of those ones that had a steady build up for me. She didn't need to give us a virgin to give us pure and innocent. And she definitely managed to make the devil seem tempting.
The ending for the story was perfect. It ended even better than I could possibly have imagined. If this is the way this author writes then I definitely want more from her in the future. Jul 23, Bobbi rated it it was amazing. This author is new to me and I have to say I enjoyed her writing. This story is about making a deal with the devil and redemption. Lucien is not the typical devil you would expect and I really enjoyed that about him.
I look forward to reading more from this author. Jul 24, Sue rated it really liked it. This book was more than I thought it would be. It had more depth than expected. I really enjoyed this book. Jul 09, Christina rated it really liked it. I have to admit, this was sooooooo much more than I thought it was going to be. But let me first start by saying that although this book references religious content, it's not done over the top, making it ALL about religion. I'm not even religious and enjoyed the references.
Diana's dad has cancer and is dying. Like, in a coma and not gonna make it through the night, dying. While praying, she's approached by none other than the man of death himself, Lucifer. So why does he approach her Wowza!!!! So why does he approach her? After all, she's not the one dying. Well, seems the devil has other plans for her. Plans that Diana may have a few things to say about. Lucifer has fallen from the heavens. He's been stripped of his grace and tasked to look over hell. Although his job is to guard the gates of hell, he needs pure souls to keep those damned. As he searches for that pure soul, he finds Diana and can't resist her.
But she's more than he bargained for and becomes so much more.

This was so good. I absolutely loved the lessons learned in this. Like a reminder that "God" always forgives and loves. That there's redemption for those who believe there isn't. I'm glad that it was so much more. There have been movies, tv shows, and books who did the whole deal with the devil but not like this The devil, Lucien Star, had flaw like any human but he was an angel that just fallen from grace. Diana has such a pure soul and was able to see Lucien as more than just the devil. This book is pretty good for the author's debut. Jul 23, Jennifer rated it really liked it Shelves: I think I had bought a book on Amazon and this book showed up as a book suggestion that I might be interested in.
The cover is the first thing that caught my attention. Then I read the synopsis and I was intrigued. After a series of events occurred, I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. There were aspects of this book, especially with the mythology pertaining to Lucifer and angels, that reminded me of Supernatural and Constantine and made me wonder if this book may have started as a type of fan-fic.
Regardless, I loved the book! I really enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Diana and Lucifer. There were some light-hearted moments that made me giggle while reading the banter between Lucien and Diana and Lucien engaging in normal human activities.
I did feel that the ending was a little rushed because the book skipped a month between the last 2 chapters not counting the epilogue. Aside from that, I loved the ending! It was the perfect way to end this book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more books by this author. Jul 05, Maggie Whitworth rated it it was amazing. I love good books with this theme and this one definitely did not dissapoint. Characters were very likable and I fell in love with Lucian, he wasnt what I expected. Diana is a girl who has a pure soul, she never has any dark thoughts or desires, she lives happily with her parents and barely complains about her life. One of the nights in the hospital, when Diana was told by the doctor that her father is getting close to the end, Diana feels desperate and so she went to the chapel in the hospital. She prays to God and hopes God can save his father from all the illness and in return, she is willing to do anything in exchange. Since Diana was so desperate to save her father, she said yes to the deal and made sure her other friends and families will be safe. She never knew Lucien has a plan to corrupt her good soul to save the gate in Hell.
Diana knew she should not like any of this, deals with the devil was never a wise choice but if she wants to save her father she has to do this. On the other hand, Lucien knew if he got too attached to a mortal human, he will soon lose his power. But no one can stop when the chemistry explodes between each other. Lucien has fallen for Diana because she is pure and a loving person. He slowly gets to know about Diana, her hobby, her favourite book which happens to be vampire love story.
