I thought this would be the perfect book for me. I forced myself three-quarters of the way through and then threw it down. I read it when I was drinking wine and that didn't help. Then I read it drinking strong coffee and that didn't help either. It should have been called The Pretension of Wine. Just about every paragraph makes a reference to someone or something.

Lots of I love wine. Lots of Latin, Greek, mythology, art history, philosophy - not things I know about.

For someone versed in these subjects, it might be an enjoyable book. For me, it was very hard to see the point the authors were making when I couldn't make the same connections. The authors mock snobbish wine critics and maintain that wine is for everyone, but this book is not written for everyone.

It rang of intellectual snobbery. Another thing of the many things that was troubling at least to me was the excessive use in my opinion of parenthetical comments perhaps you call them asides. There was some interesting history aspects included in the writing but the relationships to psychology were superficial and contrived.
