In the UK a paedophile would get ten years, while the hacker that exposes the paedophile would get Even DDoSers can face years in prison, and for what? A DDoS distributed denial-of-service attack is no worse than a virtual sit-in. An attack begins and the website goes down, the attack ends and the website goes back up.

Today, technology is everywhere, in banks and ATMs, TVs and games consoles, streetlights and hospitals. Computers rule the modern world. Take Nerdo his name is now public knowledge but I will continue to use his online handle , a church volunteer and student at Northampton University. But what did he actually do, and what happened to the money? There was no theft.

- I'm an Anonymous hacker in prison, and I am not a crook. I'm an activist;
This is like a burglar being held accountable for the company he robbed installing a new security system because the burglar beat the old one. PayPal was not ready for this kind of protest against their company, despite the large amounts of cash it was dealing with. A bunch of people sitting in front of a computer managed to close it down. This is hacktivism in its purest form. It is a great equaliser. A homeless person at an internet cafe with the time and knowhow can have geopolitical influence.
They can bring entire organisations, even governments, to their knees. You gave your world over to computers then complained when the people using the computers used the medium to fight back. We are not computer hackers.
We are not protesters. We are not criminals. We are your mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, next-door neighbours. The hacks were escalating in number and gravity, targeting symbols of economic inequality and police brutality, and in many ways Anonymous was becoming more decentralized, more open-source and tactically diverse enough to represented the future of hacktivism — and maybe even part of the future of activism.
Still, most people who cover Anonymous get it wrong, and so they get trolled or hacked in the process. We are condemned as criminals without consciences, dismissed as anti-social teens without a cause, or hyped as cyber-terrorists to justify the expanding surveillance state. I am all for people finding the path of treatment that works best for them. Treatment is not a"One Size Fits All" approach. There is not one antidepressant that works for everyone, is there?
This is no different.

These are individuals, with individual traumas, mental illnesses, triggers, etc. The person who was molested as a child, smokes crack, gambles and has promiscuous sex with strangers should not have the same treatment as the person who was abandoned, has difficultly with relationships, drinks alcohol and takes benzodiazepines. Thankfully, Methadone did work for me. In the time I have been in recovery, I have completed my Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
I began volunteering at my local syringe exchange program. I ended my 13 months at the woman's shelter by moving into my first apartment I have had in 12 years. The volunteering turned into the first full-time job I have had in 12 years.
THIS WEEKS FEATURED RECOVERY STORIES
I am now the Harm Reduction Outreach Specialist for Project Safe Point, and I get to help other people, just like me with everything from treatment, to housing, to safer injection practices. It is the most fulfilling work I have ever done. I can't imagine doing anything else. Also, I have a car for the first time in 6 years. I have unsupervised visits with my daughter at my house. Our relationship is better than ever with her as well as other members of my family.
I have a life I never dreamed I could have.

I thought drugs were going to claim my life and that's just the way it was, and there was nothing I could do about it. It was just a fact in my mind. I could have never dreamed it could be this good.
Life in recovery just does not compare. There is nothing about my old life that I miss. I hate that so many people go hurt along the way, but I am right where I am supposed to be today, because of my addiction. I am not ashamed.
