Instead, the book weaves through Antonia's thoughts about her community, the government, her daily life, family issues, etc. I personally wanted more information on the Zapatista uprising from her point of view, but that is hardly present. I found myself having to put this book down a lot. Not because of anything disturbing as I just found myself saddened. Antonia lives in dire poverty and I can get a sense of her struggle.

It seems that there is no liberation to be had from her community's predicament.
