It was a quick read. Very helpful and so insightful. This book touched on everything from talking to your kids about drugs, sleeping patterns and school work to brain development. A lot of research and statistics went into this book. If you have a preteen or a teenager, I would definitely recommend it. It was a quick read, too. My mother wrote this book and I must say looking back, I'm 26 now these techniques were invaluable during my teenage years. I can't say my teenage years were the most fun time in my life but I can say that it was very easy transitioning into the person I am today.
I will absolutely use this information with my future children as I am very happy with the way I turned out!

If you want a great holiday gift for the parents, grandparents or just close friends of a girl age 8 and up get them From Tweens to Teens. Or you can just get it as a gift to yourself if you have pre-teen in your life.
I am the mother of a grown daughter and three pre teen granddaughters. Dr Fleshood does an amazing job of setting out the issues facing those raising girls in this over sexualized, over distracted and over electronically connected world. Dr Fleshood sets out logical simple steps we can take to get our girls to develop self esteem and a structure that will enable them and their families to steer through an incredibly difficult time of transitioning from girl to woman. She does this with concrete examples, humor and easy to understand steps we can take to help our girls and ourselves understand the process of growing up in these difficult distracted times.
It turns out that adding simple rituals to the family life helps girls and their families stay grounded and equips them for what is to come. A very easy read. I highly recommend this parenting guide.

Have a medical provider who is well versed in caring for transgender children lined up in advance to start cross-gender hormone therapy when your family decides the time is right. Your nearest LGBT center can provide a list of transgender-friendly providers. The child may or may not decide to pursue surgery. The important thing is to support children and young adults in making their own decisions.
Most kids wait until age 18 to 21 to start procedures. Support at that stage may involve helping them figure out what kind of surgery they want and looking into insurance coverage. A surgeon can be found through a local LGBT center or online, where there is plenty of information about different surgeons, including reviews and which age groups they work with. Understand that living with gender dysphoria can be harder than living as a transgender person.
When children explain how gender dysphoria feels, parents see the pain they are suffering and may become more accepting. They can sense your disapproval and conflict. Parental support for transgender youth is paramount, and a lack of support can have devastating consequences. Listen to your kids—they know what feels right and true to them.
