Fablehaven Book 3 Hardcover: While still a good story, which I read aloud to the kids, and which keeps them enthralled, I start to find them a bit formulaic, and long-winded. I like the recurrence of characters that you get to know, and the references back to prior books which seems to treat the reader like an old friend, but I am taking a "break" before reading 4 with my kids - and may encourage them to do it on their own!
One would think it's a kids book. But characters just die, man, die. Even to sacrifice themselves for no true purpose And that is precisely what i like about it. Sure the series has it's flaws, but it's also an amazing and beautiful story! Just getting better and better with each book. Great book for fantasy lovers.
Find out what happened to the family. I really liked the Patton plot twist. I'm tired of suspecting everyone of being a spy, though. Estoy shippiando mucho a Kendra y Gavin. I did enjoy the dragon taming, though! It was an ok book the plot twist was not big enough. This book was even better than the first two. I would give it 3. Very fun and creative. I really enjoyed the challenges that the characters went through and how they overcame those challenges. I had a urge to read some more middle grade, so I decided to finally pick up volume 3 of Fablehaven.
See a Problem?
I started this series in early and wasn't particularly enchanted, but I'm glad I decided to continue because I appreciated this volume quite a bit more than the previous two. Grip of the Shadow Plague is an awesome book! Meanwhile at Fablehaven, Seth and the rest of them are struggling with the Shadow Plague, a sickness turning all of the light creatures into creatures of darkness and evil. Coulter and Tanu both are turned into shadows that only Seth can see, for some odd reason Fablehaven: Coulter and Tanu both are turned into shadows that only Seth can see, for some odd reason.
Graulas is one of the four powerful demons that reside on Fablehaven, but Graulas is dying. Graulas tells Seth that the Shadow Plague was most likely caused by Kurisock, another powerful demon on Fablehaven, Ephira, a hamadryad that was turned evil, and the nail that Seth had removed from the Revenant in the previous book. Then, back to Kendra's point of view, she is trying to recover another artifact in the reserve called Lost Mesa, with a few other Knights named Gavin who she just happens to have a total crush on , Tami, Javier, Neil, and Warren, who we already knew.
They get through the mesa, get past the dragon who guards it with the help of Gavin, who is mysteriously good at dragon taming, but find that the artifact is already gone. There is a note that only Kendra can decipher, and it tells her that the artifact has been moved to Fablehaven by Patton Burgess. So Kendra goes home, and finds Seth and her family struggling deeply with the Plague. They must find new refuge, so they retreat to the pond where the Fairy Queen's shrine is, one of the two safe places in Fablehaven.
They think that the artifact resides in the old manor that is haunted by some figure they know almost nothing about, and right they are. They find the Chronometer, the artifact that has power over time. Seth, by chance, presses a certain button, and a figure of Patton Burgess appears. He had used the artifact himself in his days to appear for three days if someone were to ever press that button. Patton helps them enormously, first by getting Lena out of the pond where she was as a naiad, and by helping them discover what they would have to do to destroy the plague. Kendra and Patton take to the Fairy Queen's shrine, and Kendra asks for help.
The Fairy Queen tells her the solution, and destroys her own shrine to make a pebble full of light that would cancel out the power of the dark nail in Kurisock's domain. But as a warning, the Fairy Queen told Kendra that whoever touched the pebble to the nail would die. They then rally up as many light creatures as they can, and charge into Kurisock's domain. They fight their way to the tree, and after a few feeble attempts, Lena is finally the one who dashed to the dark tree and touches the pebble to the nail, and falls to her death.
The plague is cured, and Patton leaves, as his three days is up. But he leaves Kendra something to entertain herself as she goes home for the school year. Something that may contain the secrets she needs to find the last artifacts before the Sphinx does. Kendra and Seth are definitely two characters that compliment each other in their similarities and differences! Kendra is a planner, she's intelligent, and she's the responsible one.
While Seth is the impulsive, dumber, irresponsible one. But they are both brave and courageous, and both have magical powers of their own kind. They are more like realistic siblings than I've seen in many books. I loved this book! I recommend it to anyone who has read the previous two books. It does an amazing job of carrying on the story! The description of the scenes and the plot itself was excellent, and the character development was amazing!
I must admit, I was shocked that Brandon Mull decided to kill Lena, but it was a well-placed plot twist. The only thing that I would add is more emotion to the story, like when Lena dies, Kendra is just described as being sad. We could add a lot more there! But overall, it was an amazing read, and I enjoyed it through the entire book!. The author, Brandon Mull, has also written some other bestselling books like the Beyonders and the Candy shop War. Fablehaven is a fairly new book, being published in I like these books more and more.
I never got to read these books when I was younger, so I figured I would try them this year, and I didn't regret it. The title and the setting sound a little juvenile, but since reading the actual book, I have different fee Grip of the Shadow Plague is the third book in the Fablehaven series. The title and the setting sound a little juvenile, but since reading the actual book, I have different feelings. Even though it is meant for kids, I think that anybody, no matter what age, would enjoy reading this fantasy book.
Most of the books meant for young readers have barely pages.
Fablehaven. La Plaga de La Sombra : Brandon Mull :
This one surpasses that with almost , but is still perfect for younger ages. Even though it talks about magical creatures, it ranks as one of the top books I have read. Though I'm not a fan of reading, this was one of the books that I willingly read and enjoyed. This story takes place in a mystical area that houses old, magical creatures.
The setting of a lonely, dark forest brings the reader into a different world, away from his or her own life. The preserve that holds all the creatures is controlled by the grandparents of the two main characters, Seth and Kendra. Even though Seth and Kendra aren't at the preserve year round, they still help out taking care of the place.
The book starts out with Seth selling batteries to his friends, the satyrs, so they could watch their portable television. While stealing money, they notice some of the kind little creatures have turned black and are evil. Immediately, Seth reports back to his grandparents. His grandpa has also figured something is wrong, because the gentle fairies that he allows into his yard have even turned bad. They all do some studying and, at the end of the book, they all find out who started the dark plague. Meanwhile, Kendra has joined the good group, Nights of the Dawn.
She then is sent immediately to an old pueblo to find an ancient artifact. It takes a while for them to find where and when the artifact will be able to be recovered. Finally, after a couple friends have died, they reach the artifact room.
The next event is one of the most unexpected in any book I have ever read. I thought the story could end right there, but Mull somehow thinks of a way to join the two main characters again, both with a problem that need fixing. I also liked how a lot of the time it made me guess, and it never told me what was going to happen in the next chapter. At the end of almost every chapter, it left me hanging, needing to read at least the beginning of the next chapter.
Unlike most other books, this one has two main characters.
Though I sometimes forgot what was going on with the other character, it was nice almost having two separate stories that joined together at the very end. I liked how most of the story was exiting. I might choose to read this book again, but pay more attention and see if I missed anything on my first time through it. Have you ever wanted to find a secret hidden path under your house?
