I was lucky to find this book sitting on a shelf where I work, as it isn't intimidating, but only includes 60 or so pages of some of the most prolific and famous haiku writers. The brief introduction gave a great overview of what to expect, and in this tome's brevity and simplicity, I found a new appreciation for haiku.

Though the topics are centered on seasons and nature, I found the introduction's point of how haiku encourages the reader to be a co-creator of the poem, in finding the double meanings of how the writers connect nature with more than just a natural identity, but everything in the world as well, to be exceedingly helpful in breaking down my previous opinions about haiku.
I found a lot of inspiration in these lines about scarecrows, cherries, and grasshoppers. Going out of your comfort zone and trying things you already feel you have solidified opinions about in your brain is worth doing every now and then. Haiku still isn't my favorite form, hence the rating, but I definitely appreciate its craft a lot more now! Apr 06, Sef Churchill rated it did not like it.

This small collection, while imperfect, is full of wonderful gems, beautifully presented.
