I really enjoyed this style of writing because it provided many different character viewpoints, allowing me to get into each of their heads and understand their character better. Since the different forms of writing were short, this ensured they were straight to the point, which made for quick reading.

The main character of the story is a teenage girl with multiple personality disorder. She is happy and lively. She attends Elmbridge High School with her best friend, Naida. Carly, Ari her love interest and Naida are the only people who know of her existence. She roams the attic and basement. The Dead House fulfils its formal obligations with subtlety and grace.

In particular, Michael's voice. He delivers a perfect ending to this ghost story ensuring the reader is left haunted, just enough, to have them looking over their shoulder as they climb the stairs to bed. Billy O'Callaghan casts a fearful gaze into the world of supernatural occurrences. All praise ' The Dead House. Do yourself a favor and get ahold of this book. He resides in County Cork, Ireland. • So much about this book did not disappoint: The sense of place is superb; the language to describe said place is terrifically evocative; the interweaving of a very dark and enormously tragic period in Irish history is deliciously eerie. The use of the changing look of Maggie's art to demonstrate the deterioration of her psyche is a super use of imagery to guide the point.

Given all that does not disappoint, it's almost like the gang's all here for a perfect scary story, and not just that, but a well-written one to boot. Which is why I hated so much to be disappointed by what seem like so many missed opportunities. The backstory based in the years of famine in Ireland -- an era so horrendous that nonfiction about it is scary, without fictionalizing a thing -- could have so effortlessly set the stage for a truly great piece of horror, the supernatural or the occult.

    Questions?

The scene with the Ouija board is delightfully creepy. It's also about as well-written as a scene depicting the use of a Ouija board could be. I mean think about it. It's not an easy thing to write about effectively without descending into lazy repetitions of "the planchette moved," and "the planchette moved again. There really isn't time in the plot to tell the scary story well and the love story well, and this is to the detriment of both aspects of the plot. And honestly, it's a little off-putting to come looking for a ghost story and be served a love story.
