If we're going to go back to Valsesia, Laura's apartment will be the first one I'm going to check. The only thing I would point out to visitors is that the apartment has no WiFi. This was for us no a great issue: But if you are very needy for a more speedy connection, this is the only point to consider.

It was a great stay at Frederic's house!! Very comfortable room with lots of privacy! Very nice to meet Frederic! Thanks Frederic for all your helpful suggestions! Ferderic was absolutely marvellous and as we arrived earlier than planned he arranged everything making to make us feel comfortable. The house is quite old with wonderful wall and ceiling paintings and old furnitue so if you are up to something special this is the place to be.
Kitchen was very basic but it was functional and ok. The house is on the river Sesia and Ferderic offers a parking place for the car opposite the house. Thanks for intruducing us to your hobby kajaking, your videos are amazing Frederic! A lovely and lively place in the middle of the action if you like mountain hiking, rafting, canyoning. The house where we stayed was a building with a lot of character, typical for the mountain region. We have not met our host in person, but his daughter who lives in the place was very helpful.
He had informed us about his absence and contacted us to ensure that everything was fine it was. We will definitely return for more action.

Casa molto pulita e confortevole. Well equipped cozy accommodations, friendly and very helpful host who went out of her way to show us around and help us rent ski equipment. Macugnaga is surrounded by breathtaking mountains at the foot of the monte-rosa, the peaks can be seen from the flat! The town is small and everything is a walking distance away. I highly recommend this place for anyone who plans a holiday in the mountains whether in the summer or winter! It's a couple of minutes outside of the main town by car.
There is a bit of construction going on around it, so it's not as beautiful as it could be yet, but that did not spoil the stay. Daniela was very responsible, helpful and friendly. Some of her messages did come through late- she helpfully looked for and found a place for us the night before, but we got the message she found it only when we arrived the following day. I'm sure that's just a technical bug. Overall a lovely place with a great host.
Daniela's apt was lovely, centrally situated and comfortable. Daniela was responsive, helpful, and kind. The host has been very nice and efficient to check in us. The apartment is even nicer and cozier than the pictures. It his in the village close to most of the restaurants, small shops and the hotspots of Macugnaga.

In the two years we have been using airbnb our stay at Frederic's home was the best experience to date. Fred went out of his way to make us feel at home. He took us out to dinner, made dinner reservations for us, provided advice on hike routes, took me kayaking, and even lent me a kayak when mine broke. A true gentlemen and wonderful host. I highly recommend staying at Fred's lovely home. An added bonus is that each room is full of antiques, paintings and the walls and ceilings are covered in frescos.

Teresa in Turin early ownership inscription on the title-page, 'Ex libris Bibl. The rare, nearly contemporary counterfeit of the first Aldine Commedia to be illustrated, issued in August , and intriguingly reflects — as evinced by the woodcut depiction of the Sito et forma della valle inferna — a historical vogue for measuring and mapping Hell.
The counterfeited volume appeared only a few months after the original Aldine edition. The volume closely adheres to the text, layout, and illustrative apparatus of the Aldine Dante, except for the title printed on the first leaf, in which the original Dante col sito, et forma dell'inferno tratta dalla istessa descrittione del poeta is changed to Le terze rime di Dante con sito, et forma de lo Inferno novamente in restampito , recalling the title of the first Aldine Commedia printed in see no.
This counterfeit gives further, striking evidence of the success of the Aldine Commedia printed in the portable octavo size and set in italic type, despite the warning against unauthorized reprinting in the colophon of the Dante of , or the privilege granted by the Venetian Senate. Even after Aldus' death in February , the volumes produced by the printing press now run by his father-in-law, Andrea Torresano, maintained a certain level of charm and continued to be counterfeited by other printers.

A magnificent festival book printed by Bodoni just a year after his appointment as head of the ducal typography, on the occasion of the marriage of Ferdinand, Duke of Parma to the Archduchess of Austria Maria Amalia of Habsburg-Lothringen, Imperial Princess and daughter of Francis I and Maria Theresa. The wedding was formally celebrated at Colorno on 27 July , but the splendid festival organised in celebration of the union took place in Parma.
To this end, he gathered Bodoni, [the chief architect of the ducal court Ennemond] Petitot, and Benigno Bossi, the renowned engraver, and exhorted them to produce albums that would astonish everyone with their magnificence. Lester, Giambattista Bodoni , pp.
Paciaudi, Paolo Maria (1710-1785)
It was realised by Bodoni in close collaboration with Ennemond Alexandre Petitot , the latter having been responsible for designing the sumptuous apparati , fabulous scenography, and lavish costuming prepared for those festivities. The bilingual text in Italian and French was composed by the court librarian Paolo Maria Paciaudi and describes the various celebratory performances: Zuliani, Paolo Maria Bossi, and above all the aforementioned Petitot. A fine set, uniformly bound, from the celebrated library once owned by Count Gian Giacomo Trivulzio, which was particularly well endowed with testi di lingua. An additional noteworthy feature is its earliest recorded ownership in the first volume, to be referred to the outstanding Florentine humanist Benedetto Varchi.
The first volume opens with the first edition of Trissino's Italian translation of the De vulgari eloquentia , the unfinished treatise written in Latin by an exiled Dante between and The subject of the work is the nature of poetry in vernacular languages, above all Italian; against their detractors, the work attempts to defend the eloquence of vernacular languages, which, in Dante's opinion, have the potential of being just as dignified as Latin.
Trissino edited the De la Volgare Eloquenzia on the basis of a manuscript in his possession, today in the Biblioteca Trivulziana in Milan ms — the original Latin text only appeared in In addition to the Italian translation of the De vulgari eloquentia the miscellaneous first volume also includes — as is frequently found to be the case — two treatises composed by Trissino himself: Varchi, L'Ercolano , Pescara , pp. Il Cinquecento , Roma , pp. Text in one column, 24 lines. N4, not affecting the text. Olschki Rome, 15 April ; Sylvain S. Very rare edition of the Italian translation in verses — attributed to Teramo humanist Girolamo Forti — of the story of Renaud de Montauban, part of the French cycle of the Quatre fils of Aymon of Dordogne. This chivalric poem was first composed in Alexandrine verse in the thirteenth century, and the narrative of the adventures and exploits of Rinaldo da Montalbano enjoyed ever-increasing popularity in Italy from the late fourteenth century, where it developed in different versions, both in verse and in prose.
Rinaldo's story appeared first in print in Naples in about Numerous editions followed in the earliest decades of the sixteenth century, generally of extraordinary rarity and mostly known through a single copy. The edition of is based on the Rinaldo issued by the Venetian Melchiorre Sessa in , from which is also derived the fine woodcut printed on the title-page as well as most of the vignettes in the text.
The present copy is exceptionally complete. In fact, the only other traceable copy of the Tacuino publication, which once belonged to Essling and Bonfiglioli, is preserved in the Yale University Library and is lacking two leaves. The copy listed by Melzi and Tosi — bound with the Bindoni edition of Pietro Durante's Leandra — was later offered by the Parisian bookseller Edwin Tross in his Catalogue no. I libri ritrovati di Renzo Bonfiglioli e altri episodi di storia del collezionismo italiano del Novecento , Firenze , pp. Italic, roman, and Greek type. A very good copy, a few leaves uniformly browned, re-margining of the outer margin of first four leaves in the first volume, slightly affecting the rule border but without any loss of text. Colbert, Regni ministri, deinde Ill. Colbert, Rothomagensis Archiepiscopi, ac demum D. Euclid's Elementa edited by the Bamberg Jesuit and professor of mathematics at the Collegium Romanum, Christoph Clavius , and supplemented with his monumental commentary.
This Roman publication represents one of the greatest achievements in the history of Renaissance mathematics. The present copy has a very distinguished provenance, increasing its value. At Colbert's death in , his library, which contained 23, printed books and over 5, manuscripts, passed by descent to Jean-Baptiste Colbert de Torcy, and then to other members of this outstanding French family.
The collection was in large part sold in Paris on 24 May During the eighteenth century, numerous volumes from the Colbertina came into the possession of one of the greatest bibliophiles of the age, Comte Charles-Henry de Hoym, ambassador to Augustus II of Poland. Hoym commissioned the handsome binding in red morocco bearing his coat of arms on the covers. The leading French binders worked for him: His library was sold in Paris between May and August , and in the preface the bookseller Gabriel Martin points up the presence of numerous volumes ex Thesauro Colbertino in the collection.
The volume later passed into the hands of another great collector of fine bindings, Jean Furstenberg. Four engraved folding plates, signed 'D.
Paulus Amato Ingignerius inventor'. Decorated woodcut initials and tailpieces. A good copy, some foxing and staining. Upper margin slightly trimmed but not affecting the text. Some marginal repairs, small restored hole on fol. D8, with loss of a few letters. First edition of this work describing the magnificent religious festival held in Palermo in in honour of the city's patron saint, St. Rosalia, who, according to local tradition, had saved the city from the plague see no. The text is attributed in the dedicatory epistle to the Jesuit Ignazio de Vio, teacher of theology, mathematics, and Hebrew.
Between and he published several works on the festival of Santa Rosalia, which, initiated in , began on 12 July and lasted four days. The cult of the patron saint was strongly supported by the Jesuits, who were directly involved — as this publication testifies — in the organisation of processions and other festivities. The volume is supplemented with four fine plates, which are signed by the leading architect, engineer, and painter Paolo Amato , the designer and inventor of all the spectacular ephemeral structures or apparati.
Amato was in charge of the fabulous decorations for almost all festivities commissioned by the Senate of Palermo between the s and , the year of his death. One of the folding plates is especially impressive: The other plates are also of great interest, depicting various ephemeral structures used in the festival, such as an incredible firework machine built as a castle on an island surrounded by boats and elaborate church apparati. Aa3 repaired, without any loss. On the front pastedown, a price mark of 'F 30'. Hobson, Apollo and Pegasus , no. An exceptional volume, bound by the 'Ruiz Binder' and gathering two important histories of Europe, both of which were written by outstanding Florentine scholars: His uncle Felipe was secretary of the Papal Dataria. Hobson records twenty-four volumes bearing Ruiz's arms, all bound by the same Roman binder known as the 'Ruiz Binder', in light of his principal client.
Hobson suggests that the 'Ruiz Binder' may be his successor. The Ruiz arms are stamped within the usual cartouche employed by this Roman binder. The present binding is one of the twenty-four recorded in Hobson's census. The volume later entered the rich library of cardinal Giuseppe Renato Imperiali, sold in Rome in Woodcut printer's device on the title-page, and repeated on the separate title-page introducing the Trattato secondo.
Engraved author's portrait on fol. Covers within triple gilt fillets. Spine with five raised bands, compartments richly tooled, title lettered in gold. Marbled pastedowns, inside dentelles , gilt edges. A very fine copy. Slightly browned in places. First edition — dedicated to Bianca Capello — of the most important sixteenth-century Italian treatise on dancing, and one of the most beautiful dance books ever produced, and presented here in the issue bearing Ziletti's device on the title-page. He spent most of his life in Rome, where he was active as a dancer, 'inventore di scene', dance master, musician, and composer.
He was the last proponent of Renaissance Italian dance style, opposing the French danse noble , which had begun to spread across Europe in the last decades of the Cinquecento. Caroso was not only a practicing dancer, but also a refined theorist, and his Ballarino — i. The first part of this magnificent work illustrates fifty-five rules for steps, while the more lengthy second part describes seventy-six separate dances, including, among others, the alta , bassa , balletto , pavan , cascarda , saltarello , and spagnoletta.
Each dance is supplemented with a poem in praise of a different woman — mostly members of Roman noble families — and includes musical notation for lute. Each of the dances under discussion is designed for one or more pairs of dancers. Throughout the work, Caroso celebrates the concept of 'nobil vivere', and the figure of the well-educated dancer-courtesan. The work is especially praised for its illustrative apparatus, which includes twenty-two full-page copper engravings executed by the renowned artist Giacomo Franco.
These illustrations depict the positions of dancers at the beginning of each of the various dances and cumulatively represent a precious iconographic source not only for the history of dance, but also that of fashion as well as culture more generally. Magriel, A Bibliography of Dancing , pp. Everything was so clean and neat, best apartment we have rent.
Laura's apartment was as promised and more. We went to Mollia in the middle of August and also in the middle of a very hot set of days. Initially because there is no airco in the apartment, this worried us a bit. But on arrival, all the worries were gone: I would recommend Laura's apartment to anyone who is interested in Valsesia. It's positioned in a great location with some nice restaurants nearby, Alagna nearby for hiking or other Alpine activities and a great place to enjoy a nice brioche in the morning Cafe della Mostra.
If we're going to go back to Valsesia, Laura's apartment will be the first one I'm going to check. The only thing I would point out to visitors is that the apartment has no WiFi. This was for us no a great issue: But if you are very needy for a more speedy connection, this is the only point to consider.
Ci e' piaciuta fin dall'annuncio. Graziano's place is lovely. Great veiw, very cosy, and quiet. Graziano was very helpful giving us ski tips, restaurant suggestions and free parking near to the gondola. Would definately stay here again. Great hospitality in a gorgeous location. Beautiful walk through the forest to the pistes in the morning.
Very quiet and peaceful. We loved our time here. An easy classic little 'walser' appartment just a bit higher up the mountain. The mini-village Rusa is so sweet and only one kilometer from Alagna. Graziano lives above in the cosy house everybody wants to have. Close to the ski-lift you have a private parking space! We were with our two children and they could safely play outside. The location is very romantic with a breathtaking view, both from the sitting room and the bedroom.
We did it every day of our stay. The car parking is pretty close the flat and the way to Alagna is short but a bit loppy. The apartment was clean and Graziano and his wife were very polite and the communication was quick. Graziano's place was excellent. It is a secluded location over looking the valley. I would definitely stay here again.
Spent a wonderful three nights here skiing and exploring the surrounding area. Frederic was very knowledgeable and helpful and gave many good recommendations. His place was clean with beautiful views. Highly recommend staying here. A very good communication with frederic.
Very Nice appartment, very Nice people, Alagna is super. In the absolute center very near to restaurants, wine bar and supermarket. Could not be better. Casa Smitt is right on the main road Walser street , just steps away from restaurants, tiny grocery shops, and the sky lifts. The apartment had a beautiful veranda overlooking the central square.
You also have access to a very large garden. Anna is a great host; super responsive and very welcoming.

Parcheggio in loco quasi sempre disponibile.
A lovely place and a great host!
