Avery and Luke are both broken from their own tragic pasts. In Winter, when Avery needed someone to lean on Luke was right there with a strong shoulder and a patient heart. Unfortunately, when his ghosts start to haunt him and he begins to feel like he's losing control, instead of putting his trust in her and communicating, he chooses to stay silent and run. While I completely understand his painful past and the fact that his lack of dealing with his feelings could lead to fear I never had much sympathy for him.

It's a simple case of conflict due to non-communication which could have easily been avoided. Instead of having the two of them battle through the storm together, we spend the majority and I do mean the majority of the book waiting for him to work through everything The entire time mentally pining after her and wondering if she's moved on to someone else. Not once was he fine with his own actions and the repercussions, yet he stubbornly kept up the silence, distance, and left her without even an explanation as to why he did what he did.

Avery was somewhat childish in her reaction to the situation as well. She was rightfully hurt, but instead of simply finding a way to communicate with him, she took her hurt feelings and ran with them. We get to see Avery adjust to life on her own again, she simply spends months of torment in sadness and anger. Nothing that happened to either of them seemed to aid the resolution of the "conflict". Things happened in his daily life with the band, he spoke with a therapist, he sits wondering where Avery is and what she's doing.

There is a surprise return character that influences the plot somewhat, but at one point something happens with him that felt like unnecessary drama. On the positive side, I will say that reading this book was simple and easy to slip back into after two years, and the pace was fast and smooth however many frustrations I did have. I never had a problem with boredom. Unfortunately, I just would have been happier leaving things in the story where they left off in Winter. Yes, Luke needed to work through his past and his fears in order to have a stable future with Avery, but that whole process felt rather counterproductive they way he went about it.

I can see where some readers may feel the intended angst over their separation and still enjoy this, but for me, it wasn't what I had hoped for. View all 20 comments.

The book cover confused and intrigued me at the same time. As I mentioned in my review of Winter, I can never resist a guitar on a book cover. The author took me on another ride in Summer, but it wasn't on a tour bus. They need to write music and record to meet their contractual obligation to MVP. And as we already know, Luke is the song writer of the band. He expresses his feelings in lyrics, whether it "Don't waste love.

Seducing Summer

He expresses his feelings in lyrics, whether it be pain or love. He's struggled with those emotions for years. He's always been driven to protect others which is why he chose the police department. He wanted to save others like himself that needed rescuing. While his mentor saved him physically all those years ago, nobody could save him from the after effects of the hell he survived. Avery was the needy one in their relationship. He was always there for her, catching her when she fell. Watching over her from afar, even when she wasn't aware of his presence.

He would do anything for her. Even if what he felt was best for her, broke his own heart. Avery made it through hell and found happiness She is back at home, trying to make up all the course work that she missed during her ordeal. She hasn't heard from Luke. He hasn't called, texted, or visited her. He's just disappeared from her life with no explanation.

Well, you don't really expect me to tell you, do you? Nope, that's the best part. Waiting, and wondering, and anticipating what Luke is hiding. You have to experience the heartbreak , and the revelation, and the betrayal, and the anger yourself. Will they win, or will he find a way to overcome the challenges that are threatening the happiness that he only glimpsed. Will he throw it all away, choosing to exist rather than to live? Has he burned the bridge that connected him to the only woman he's ever loved?

Will the success of his band and the lifestyle of rockstar make up for what he's lost? There's only one way to find out Feb 01, Romance Readers Retreat rated it really liked it. I'm having some mixed feelings about this book. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the book, but maybe because I was totally blown away with Winter, I think this one just didn't quite match up to it.

In book one I loved the fact that I had absolutely no idea about a certain turn of events. How it always left me guessing. With this one however, I didn't think there was quite enough to sink my teeth into. With Summer, there's a very different feel to it. Luke has headed to LA to embark on a year l I'm having some mixed feelings about this book. Luke has headed to LA to embark on a year long stint with his band D.

F and Avery remaining in New York to finish her studies at University. The question I knew going into this book was, how will the twosome cope with a long distance relationship? Instead of adoring Luke like I did in the first book, I found he needed a few slaps around the head in this one. Avery, for me, was the star of the book.

The way she handled herself with grace and dignity, despite what she had to endure, is a real credit to how she has grown as a character. Now I know at times I became incredibly frustrated with Luke, I really did sympathise with him in many ways and in a way I understood why he did certain things, but my god, the guy is a dumbass at times. Although still an incredibly sexy dumbass.

And underneath his 'dumbassiness' is a perfect and caring guy. For me I loved the fact that we went from point A to point B, but something for me was lacking somewhere in between.

Perhaps I needed more angst. Maybe I needed more of that chemistry that we were given in the first book. Also a really good antagonist wasn't present so much in this book, where as we were spoilt for choice in Winter. I'm not entirely sure if there is more to Avery and Luke's story in a third book, because I really do feel like I'm missing something. I understand this book had to take a different route to the first, to enable the story to progress and I have to point out that this was an incredibly well written story with amazing characters.

As it stands, I really want more from Avery and Luke and definitely more of that incredibly chemistry we have come to love from this couple. When Luke realises that he has to fight his demons in order to protect Avery he pulls back from what they have, with devastating results. This series is something a little bit different. From being a cop to the lead singer in a band, Luke draws readers into the story with his vulnerability.

He showed his true self in the care and support he gave to Avery and he became an altogether more rounded individual which I enjoyed. This is a series that I wholeheartedly recommend. The writing style is very strong, as expected from those who know the author as Callie Hart. Copy provided by the author in return for a honest review.

First of all if you haven't read Winter, the first book in this series, you really should, because this book will explain a few things, answer some questions and give some flashbacks regarding the first book.

I was so excited to have this book to read once i finished reading the first one because, if didn't have it, i would be a wreck waiting for it. I had a roller coaster of emotions while I was reading Summer bec How will I tell you the way I felt wile I was reading this book without spoil it? Avery's father was an innocent man and died to protect her. Luke is about to live the dream. At the ending of the book, there is also a brief afterword, which King wrote on January 4, In it, he explains why he had not previously submitted the novellas each written at a different time for publication. Early in his career, his agents and editors expressed concern that he would be "written off" as someone who only wrote horror. However, his horror novels turned out to be quite popular and made him much in demand as a novelist. Conversely, the novellas, which did not deal primarily with the supernatural, were very difficult to publish as there was not a mass market for "straight" fiction stories in the 25, to 35,word format.

Thus, King and his editor conceived the idea of publishing the novellas together as "something different", hence the title of the book. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
