Only neither of them call it sex, it is more than that. This spirals, they are together — A LOT! They are working on the farm together, Claire is learning, Jack is learning….

Jack even offers Claire a real job, something that will benefit both of them. For her it will be something to put on her resume, for him it will help his farm. One month and a payment for this job. They both want what is best for Claire. Dad and Jack understand one another and are in agreement about the job Claire is doing. She stays with Jack on the farm. To be honest she was done with the project early, but she is dragging it out, just to stay. But fate is a fickle thing. A particular person reappears, and there is something said. Without talking about it, without wasting any more time someone leaves.

Feelings are hurt, hearts broken and a purchase to confirm a thought transpire. Dad tells Jack what is going to happen and NOW. A surprise when Jack and Claire end up in that meeting, and it is just the two of them. Talking, asking forgiveness, and finally saying those words both of them were afraid to say first lead to the making up. May 22, MJM rated it it was amazing. Parker is a new author to me, but she is now added to my top 20 list of favourite authors now! Jack's manager, Ted, and his wife, Sarah, his cook are on holiday so he goes to Susie's Diner for a good friend chicken meal.

Whilst he is there the door opens and the most beautiful woman that he has ever seen walks in the door, obviously furious with the man that is following her. When he grabs hold of her arm and she tells him to let go and he won't, Jack steps in to her defense and sends the creep on his way. This is where Destiny takes hold of hers and Jack's universe. As she has no money [her dad has cancelled all her credit cards and there is no where else to go] and there is no hotel or motel nearby he lets her stay the night at his home.

But Jack is guarded with his heart and whilst thinking that she is the most beautiful woman that he has ever seen, his past history makes him take her to his fishing , one bedroom cabin rather that his six bedroom mansion! As you may have gathered I simply loved this story. Jack and Claire could not have been any more perfect for each other. Every day she learned new things that she wanted to discover and experience but hadn't had the chance before. As she does so her attraction for Jack and his for her overwhelms them both and they start a passionate affair that is beyond their dreams or imaginations.

But can this last? She is a Bostonian city dweller whilst he is a Tennessee farmer?

Jack is a farmer and has been burned by his high school sweetheart and hasn't been tempted by woman since. When he sees Claire everything stops for him. Jack can't tell that not only is she younger than him but she is from a wealthy family. When her boyfriend starts giving her a hard time Jack steps in to help. When Claire is left with no money or car However its a year of bad decisions and ends with her finding out her best friend is sleeping with her man as well as being cut off by her father.

When Claire is left with no money or car Jack offers to help and she ends up crashing with him. The first night together they talk as they drink getting to know each other and Jack convinces her to really talk to her father about what she wants. The next day she decides she wants to stay in the area and get a job and actually earn her own money. She tells Jack she doesn't need to stay with him but she would like to and things progress between them while she figures out what will make her passionate about doing something like Jack is about farming.

Can two people from different backgrounds really have a chance at something serious? Will Claire find something she is passionate about? This is a new author for me and will definitely become one that I will follow.

I am starting to love her as an author she is still fairly new to me. She just has a way of spinning a tale that is so great to read. In this one, people make assumptions on what they see but quickly learn that apperances can be VERY deceiving. Jack and Claire really are perfect for each but it takes some serious maneuvering before they figure that out!

These two are so cute together from the start. It is like she gets to see life the way it was intended for it to be for her. Yes there are a few mis steps along the way, but that is how life truly can be. You can never judge a book by its cover and both of these two characters show you that throughout the story. The ending could not be more perfect. Plus you get to see what life as in- Complete!!

From the very first page of this poetically brilliant work, the reader is drawn into a saga that is at the heart of how civilization came into being.

The unsung heroes being farmers, mostly family farms handed down for generation, and it is they who allowed a division of labor so that urban cities could arise in the first place. Presently corporate ownership of land and livestock are but one factor that family farmers must struggle against. Additionally, the onslaught against the blessed land, the very soil of our earth these farmers work to understand and protect, is under attack from pollution, pesticides, a rapidly changing climate, and even fossil fuel pipelines.

I am still in the process of reading this gem of literature, and I cannot keep my eyes dry at times so as to continue. As heartbreaking as this saga is, this should be required reading for all thinking Americans, for the death of the family farm is indeed the death of civilization. Blue in Washington Barry Ballow. It was a terrific interview that emphasized the time Genoways spent with the main subjects of the book--farmer families in Nebraska.

At the time, it struck me as a better explanation for what was happening in rural America than "Hillbilly Elegy". The content of the book goes way beyond the radio interview in that Genoways includes a lot of the specifics about the botany and chemistry of farming--and there is a ton of details involved in every planting and harvesting decision. Water is also a huge and defining issue discussed at length, and represents a major concern for the future as the central plains aquifer is increasingly drawn down on.

The families profiled in "This Blessed Earth" are courageous and dedicated people--well aware of the precariousness of the way of life that they follow. Their stories are reason enough to read this important book. Truly a book with educational value and beautiful prose. Living in Wisconsin all my life, I know very little about farming. This book gives me great respect for the complex problems that farmers have always faced. The author has covered the history of American agriculture, as well as technology, world issues, politics etc and their effects on farming today.

A most enjoyable book- I highly recommend it! Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. The farm in Nebraska homesteaded by my great grandfather was sold about 10 years ago as none in our family continued in the agricultural business. I currently live in Nebraska. Despite that, I knew precious little about the fields of corn and beans, farm machinery, center pivots, feedlots, and the rest of the farming enterprising one constantly sees as one drive around the state.

Though this book purports to be the story of one farm family, and though the individuals described are somewhat interesting and, I would imagine, somewhat typical, they chiefly serve as fence posts along which the wider narrative of the details of farming in Nebraska is hung. If you are not interested in those details, I would guess this book would be somewhat of a drag for you.

But if you have ever wondered what it is like to combine a field, or what "Roundup Ready" corn is, or what those tags on the ears of cows are, or why do farmers raise so much corn and soybeans as opposed to more edible crops, this is the book for you. It is all too easy for folks to go to the market or eat their food without thought of its origin. This book gives one a clear path of the hard work and all the external forces that can make or break our ever-day farmer. Ted Genoways has done an excellent job of the joys and frequent hardships encountered by a smaller family run farm in his home state.

His personal family farming connection which surfaces throughout the story fits well without detracting from the main theme. Well worth the read. I gave this book to my mother, a farmer in the Panhandle of Texas, who then bought it for three more people. She thinks it's the best book of the year! While not raised on a farm I was farmed out to a number of God's chosen few--the American farmer.
