In fact, we feel that the G. Pierce and her character evolve simultaneously.
Well, we find the same protagonists as in the preceding book. The plot is not too complex, but it is offset by the pace of the book, once I got it into the chapters, I did not want to put it down. To read if you liked volume 1 or if you want a quick read, a little different than the books about witches that we currently find, and if you are not bothered by the final cliffhanger. Jul 06, Bonna Hicks rated it liked it Shelves: Let me just tell you Like she really, really ,really sucks.
She's a terrible friend who only ever seems to think about herself. Even when she's "worried" about her friends she makes it about herself every single time. She also has this poor me mentality when she frikken knows magic and has unlimited funds I can't with Jane. I would probably quit reading this series if there wasn't only one last book. Aug 14, Sharon Tyler rated it liked it. This is the sequel to Park Avenue , and is not really paranormal romance, although there are several elements that might have it labeled as such.
In this novel the heroine of Park Avenue , Jane, returns after her harrowing flight from Lynne's intention. In this novel she disguises herself and goes undercover in search for the one thing Lynne might give up everything for. In the process she interacts with a few of he The Dark Glamour by Gabriella Pierce is due for release on August 30 In the process she interacts with a few of her friends from the first novel, skulks around her in law's home and enters into a mutually devious but sexual relationship with someone new.
I would not call the relationship a romance by any means, and Jane makes that clear within the book. Some of the dialogue is fun and snappy, but overall I was not impressed with the novel. Perhaps that is because I skipped the first installment. In Park Avenue Jane Boyle married the man she believed to be her prince charming, however she did not get her fairy-tale ending. Her mother in law truly is a witch, and apparently so is Jane. Thankfully her groom saw the error of his ways and tried to help Jane, and is still helping her despite being in hiding somewhere himself.
Jane is struggling to understand everything that has happened and try to discover how to live her life while distancing herself from her friends in fear of endangering them. After a unexpected discovery Jane has found a trail to something that Lynne wants more than anything in the world, which might just be Jane's key to safety. Jane embarks on a mission to follow the leads, where ever they take her and regardless of the complications and identity crises, in order to find the end of the trail.
However, is it really a good idea to give someone so inherently evil something they want, even if it seems like the right thing to do? I did enjoy some of the dialogue and character interaction in The Dark Glamour , but I will admit to occasionally skimming through paragraphs of Jane's mental debates. I had to force myself to slow down and read on a few occasions. I do read quite a bit of Gothic literature, paranormal romance and urban fantasy; which could be why none of the big twists and turns in the plot really surprised me.
The story was not bad, and I did enjoy several moments. However, I found the relationship with Andre, the mysterious and convenient lover, to be a little too much. I love a nice steamy scene, but creating a purely physical relationship in a story just to through some in seemed to be a little much.
Again, perhaps if I had read the first book in the series, which apparently explains that men and women with witch bloodlines have a special chemistry that makes they more attracted to each other, I might have been less annoyed with the situation. All that being said, I did not hate the book, it was good for what it was, but it is not a book that I would recommend to anyone unless that absolutely loved Park Avenue.
Aug 22, Megan rated it liked it Shelves: This is book 2 of the Park Avenue series, with a similar glittery book jacket design but a not as dazzling plot line. I can wait though. But no, Malcolm is completely forgotten. Anyway, sorry to get off track. Jane is even more ditzy and dim-witted in this book than she was in the first one, and that makes the story drag even more. Aug 11, Chibineko rated it liked it Shelves: When I read the first book I was a little confused as to how to classify this book.
It isn't what I'd classify as chick-lit but it isn't exactly an urban fantasy or a paranormal romance. After I finished the second book I'm only slightly less clueless as to which genre I'd shelve this in, but the most important reaction is still the same: This isn't exactly a dark and gritty read, but neither is it as light and fluffy as I was expecting it to be. We have the won When I read the first book I was a little confused as to how to classify this book.
We have the wonderfully luxurious wish fulfillment of being able to live vicariously through Jane but then we also have moments where Jane takes on her new persona with reckless abandon. I was a bit surprised to see the lengths she goes to and the people she takes up with in order to get back into the house of Doran. While Jane isn't exactly doing anything absolutely horrible, it is a little bit out of the norm for books in the chick-lit or general paranormal romance genre. It does make sense though- she's fighting for her life.
Jane can't afford to be prudish. Pierce has found a decent rhythm in her second book. She's beginning to shake off the "new author" awkwardness and is becoming more confident and familiar with her style. While parts of the book are disappointingly predictable I was able to see the big surprises coming a mile away , there are a lot of good interactions between the characters and I absolutely loved how Pierce portrayed Jane's reaction to having a completely different form.
The descriptions here are very well done, helping to set each scene nicely. This book improved on the last one but those who weren't able to get overly into the last one will probably want to stick to getting this from the library. For those who loved the first book, this will be an absolute "must buy". It's fluffy fare, but darnit And while it is the second book in the series, there are enough explanatory tie-backs to the first novel that the book is strong enough to read as a stand-alone work. The main character, Jane Boyle, returns from escaping the wrath of her mother-in-law and witch heiress, Lynne Doran, into an even more complex plot.
While a few of the original, seconda The Dark Glamour is the highly anticipated second installment of the young adult YA paranormal fiction novel, Park Avenue, by Gabriella Pierce. Dee, Maeve, Harris, and Elodie, readers will be pleasantly seduced by the latest addition and love interest to the story: And as much as second books tend to evolve in series, The Dark Glamour is darker indeed with more lust, more magic, more power, and a hunger for more than just wealth for the Doran Clan.
The historical aspect of the origins of magic and the ancestry of witches is explained along with savvier, magical spells that hone in on the use of blood, vision, and disguise, and is much more than your ordinary parlour trick. While the story has taken a deeper delve into the darker arts of witchcraft, the thought process and dialogue between the main character and her secondary characters are ever familiar and reminiscent of the original narrative.
And the plot, too, intensifies with a tension that will urge you to turn the page—over and over again. I was particularly captivated towards the end when a rush of revelations forced me to rethink many of my predictions! Dec 10, Alma rated it liked it. This is the sequel to Park Avenue, I enjoyed the first one and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one to find out what happened to Jane. I like how it started almost right after her and Malcolm separated and although Jane is sometimes dumb and clueless I thought it was smart of her to stay in N.
I did like the story the only issue I had was with Jane, she just tends to annoy me at times but I feel like that's more the character than the author. If you had doubts about marrying that person, you should have called it off, but she didn't and even if her and Malcolm aren't together they are still married regardless if she's another person!!
Now, she feels guilty when she thinks about or wants Harris but she doesn't feel anything when she sleeps with Andre!! I don't like that she had an affair and yes it's an affair if you sleep with someone other than your husband, I do realize she had the look of another person on the outside but inside she was still Jane but what really bugs me is she didn't feel guilty! I think this one is way better than the first one, but Jane needs to start thinking straight!!! She can be so dumb sometimes She could've avoided that much trouble if she just had made some research!!! Since the beginning Jane was so sw I think this one is way better than the first one, but Jane needs to start thinking straight!!!
Since the beginning Jane was so swepted of ther feet with Malcom, that she couldn't or wouldn't let herself, think twice about marrying him and leaving her whole life behind! Come on, be an independt woman here!!! With Harris she stared to be more of herself, not some kept woman that is so infatueted that she can't think straight.
Even with this opinion about Malcom, I'm still a little bit divided about him and Harris I too was infatueted by him hehe Can't wait for the next one! Now that Jane has grown up, it will be a more interesting reading!!! Nov 15, Roshni rated it liked it. Jane is somewhat immature. The story is okay. Really the series is like a guilty pleasure.
I will keep reading because I want to know what happens and I'm bored and don't mind getting whisked away into a fantasy world but the books are definitely not thought provoking or profound in any way. A lot of times I figure things out before Jane does and since the books are in first person narrative, it makes the character seem dense to me. Also, considering in the beginning she is not supposed to be ab Jane is somewhat immature.
Also, considering in the beginning she is not supposed to be able to afford designer clothes, I think it is really unrealistic that she is able to identify the brands of clothes other people are wearing just by sight. I think that is an unrealistic skill for anyone not working or thoroughly invested in the fashion industry. I think it reveals more about the author, her interest in fashion, and her desire to be able to own and identify all the different designers like the character.
Aug 01, Veronica rated it really liked it Shelves: I think the author is starting to find her voice. This book had more character development and was less of an ad for haute couture. I felt like there was more plot and storyline development and Jane was less of a twit. It's worth the read and it's fast I think the author is starting to find her voice. It's worth the read and it's fast, easy and a good summer book series.

I don't know what protags end game is but neither does she I am not invested in any characters. Which is already too many. Let him go, girl; he likes ur friend; omg get over it. I had such a great time reading this book! Just like in the first book, the author delivers to her readers! I loved the twists and turns that are thrown the reader's way throughout the book. I'm glad to see Jane coming into her own. She is showing way more confidence and strength than she did in the first book.
Truly enjoyed this book! Nov 28, Ann Boytim rated it liked it. Malcom and Jane married and then fled his home with his crazy wild witch mother Lynne. Forced myself to finish. Where the first book felt fun, this one just felt tired and predictable. Sep 15, Georgina rated it really liked it. I was very excited to read this novel when I first heard about it. I love novels which involve witches in any shape or form.
I think this stems from my love of the television show Charmed when I was younger, and perhaps a little bit from The Witches. Ever since then I have been fascinated with witches and whenever a book comes along fea http: Ever since then I have been fascinated with witches and whenever a book comes along features these interesting characters I am always eager to snap it up. Jane married the man she thought was her prince charming, however her happily ever after never came.
Jane manages to run away from her mother in law on he wedding day and is now hiding out. When Jane realises that everyone is looking for her she learns the one thing her mother in law wants most and sets out to try and get it. What Jane hopes will take her away from her mother in law ends up taking her right back under their noses. With the help of her friends and a unique spell Jane is transformed into someone else entirely, Ella to stop anyone realising her true intentions.
Will Jane be able to find what her mother in law wants most and will she be able to escape once and for all? Even though The Dark Glamour is the second novel in the series, and I am still yet to read the first novel, I found that I did not get lost in the plot at any point. This is a novel that you an very much read as a stand alone as well as part of the series. Many of the previous events are explained in detailed therefore I was able to follow the storyline easily.
That being said the new storyline still moves along at a good pace without being held back by explaining the plot of the first novel. As well as this I really enjoyed the descriptions as well. At times I felt as though I could have been wherever Jane was. I really enjoy when I am able to get carried off into a book with the use of descriptions.
In terms of the characters I really enjoyed reading about Jane, I found her to be likeable and I felt moved by the situations in which she is placed. When Jane turns into Ella however, I felt that not only did her outer appearance change but also it seemed as though her inner character changed too. Ella acts more provocatively then I imagine Jane would do. Within the storyline there is a relationship between Ella and one of the other male characters, which I felt moved along much too quickly for my liking and made it appear as though Ella was very promiscuous.
I also enjoyed the inclusion of the character of Charles for the very same reason. I have to say that I did not enjoy reading about Andre. I found him to be very mysterious but yet I just did not like him at all. His character comes across as very self absorbed and I did not learn much about him from the novel.
I feel maybe if Gabriella Pierce had added more about Andre and who he is, then I would have been more interesting in reading about him. There are a couple of places in the novel where I felt things were missing. Ella travels to London within the novel, yet how would someone who does not exist be able to get a passport?
I also felt as though there was a large amount of time within the novel where Jane mentally debates many things that she is doing.

This became a little too much at times and the plot slowed down significantly during these instances. Overall I really enjoyed The Dark Glamour, finding it to be fun, intriguing and glamorous. The ending in particular was fantastic and leaves the storyline open for a potential third novel in the Park Avenue series. After reading The Dark Glamour I am defiantly looking forward to the third instalment and would without a doubt read more from Gabriella Pierce in the future.
To know it was the first book of a trilogy made me feel even better and I was thrilled to receive a copy of The Dark Glamour, the second Park Avenue novel, to review and I started it as soon as I could. However, sadly, I felt that The Dark Glamour was that awkward, filler book that sometimes occurs between a first novel and a third novel. Judging by the ending of The Dark Glamour, that is indeed true.
I want to know a book has a proper purpose, a proper place in the series of books and not just be there as a stepping stone to the next book. At the end of Park Avenue, Jane was seen to be fleeing from New York and her evil mother-in-law, but actually, in a clever twist, Jane decided she was better off staying in New York — no one expects her to be there, so there she will be. However Jane knows Lynne will not stop until she gets the daughter she so desperately wants, and Jane wants nothing to do with that, so Jane tries to come up with an alternative way to get Lynne off her back forever.
When she meets Andre, she sees her in, but just what lengths will Jane have to go to get her mother-in-law off her back for good? My problem with The Dark Glamour is that it is ridiculously slow. Basically Jane has a makeover to become Ella and starts sleeping with Andre — despite being married to Malcolm which I suppose is a mere technicality after what Malcolm did and despite pining for Harris.
