Luckily, during our travels we read a lot about the basics of house sitting so we were fully prepared to give it our best shot when we signed up. As first time house sitters, we did a few things to help us stand out from some of the more experienced candidates. Maybe they will work for you as well! Coming from an undergrad business school, we know that a common mistake people make when creating their resume is just listing every single one of their accomplishments.
A resume should highlight things that are relevant to the job you want, not just the job you are doing. The same is true with housesitting.
Think hard about what your ideal housesitting job would be looking for from a house sitter. Accentuate instances where you have succeeded in maintaining someones property. But you have never house sat before?
Reference good reviews on Airbnb and other apartment rental services. Don't just tell people that you are responsible Many housesitting jobs also come with responsibilities for taking care of pets. Highlight times where you have taken care of animals. Pet owners are typically very protective of their furry family members, so don't just show that you can keep their animals alive. Show them that their pets will be loved as well.
For us, we referenced our time spent on an Italian agriturismo looking after dogs, chickens, and cats to show our experience taking care of someone elses animals. But we also made sure to mention our childhoods growing up with labs and retrievers and our desire to get a dog once we returned to the states.

I have been able to travel to unique locations and each has given me unexpected joy. Walking along beaches, hiking mountain trails and getting to know the culture have been many of highlights. The animals are so wonderful that I have fallen in love with them and many times it is sad to leave. And so we searched for an task for the future and found "Luxury House Sitting" After a year of looking and dreaming we were ready for our first arrangement It was a wonderful time with the pets and the owner was so happy that he invited us directly for the next task. But before we started this task we got an invitation by an other owner to take care of their three cats. It was a lovely home in the area of the Bodensee in southern Germany.
The owners were a wonderful and lovely couple and so we started our second arrangement. We are very happy here on this platform and we are now ready for starting tasks outside of Europe. House sitting has been a wonderful journey for us, it has allowed to stay in some of the most beautiful homes in the UK and Ireland. We begun our house sitting journey in London where we were living at time. We both had dreamt of driving across Europe in a van while house sitting along the way. House sitting in London was our first step to relisingg this dream. After two exciting years in London, we moved across the pond to Dublin. Wanting to build upon our references we secured some two month long house sits. This was a lovely way to integrate ourselves in a community quickly.
