The Kingdom and the Crown Bundle

The family of David ben Joseph continues to follow Jesus, though the Savior's teachings now carry an undercurrent of sorrow and unsettling prophecy. And despite increasing danger, Jesus' ministry draws him inexorably toward Jerusalem. Along the way, Jesus performs miracles of astounding power; healing a woman afflicted for almost two decades, restoring sight to a man born blind, and raising Lazarus after four days in the grave. But not everyone is thrilled to hear Jesus declare, "I am the light of the world; I am the bread of life" during the Feast of the Tabernacles.

As the end of Jesus' ministry — and his life — approaches, the lines are swiftly and solidly drawn between those who will stand for Jesus and those who will tear him down. Lund received his B. In this captivating and educational trilogy, author Gerald Lund helps the reader see and understand what it was like to have lived in the days that Jesus was on the Earth.

The Kingdom and the Crown Series

This series is a wonderful way to learn more about the life and teachings of our Saviour and to gain deeper understandings of the Atonement and the Resurrection. The Work and the Glory: Fire and Steel eBook Series. Rating I debated on what rating to give this book because as a novel it wasn't completely captivating, but I still loved the picture it painted of the times Jesus lives in. It gives my mind yet another very good frame of reference to place Jesus in and that is greatly appreciated. I don't mean to imply that I didn't like the story, because I did. It just didn't touch my heart the way I wanted it to.

I wanted to give this book 5 stars based on the subject matter and the valuable framework it give Rating I debated on what rating to give this book because as a novel it wasn't completely captivating, but I still loved the picture it painted of the times Jesus lives in. I wanted to give this book 5 stars based on the subject matter and the valuable framework it gives me. I want to give it 3 because of the writing annoyances that I will give below. In the end I say if you have any interest in the life of Jesus I highly recommend this series.

Detail This book must have taken an incredible amount of time and research to write, and the skill of the author is clear in weaving his characters into history. The portrayal of Jesus was done beautifully, I was never offended or irritated with the way he was written in the story. I liked the fictional characters. I never lost interest in them. There were only a few times when the attention to detail detracted from the story. The comments and references at the end of each chapter were invaluable.

Because I read this whole series back to back, some things were irritatingly repetitive such as the wedding descriptions two separate events, plus a parable of Jesus and details of a standard Passover were given twice. Once would have been enough to then later show how Jesus changed it at the last supper. The beginning of the last book was slow.

I was bored and that detracted from the impact the final chapters could have had on me. Instead of being immersed I was ready to be done. The over use of phrases such as "his head came up" or "her head came around" nagged at me even though I tried not to let that bother me. Using a scripture as the last few lines of the book was beautiful and poetic. This is a beautifully written series. It concerns the life of Christ, particularly the years of his earthly ministry. These books are well researched to help readers understand the culture and political atmosphere of the time.

At the end of each chapter are chapter notes to clarify, expound, and cite references for the things that occur in the chapter. An important aspect of this book is that the author does not put words into Christ's mouth. When Christ speaks, the author uses quotes from script This is a beautifully written series. When Christ speaks, the author uses quotes from scripture or else Christ is saying inconsequential things like greeting someone. I thought this book was handled in a very dignified manner befitting the subject matter.

It involves characters from different walks of life and personal circumstances so that the reader can see the reactions to Christ from many points of view.

The Crown - Official Trailer [HD] - Netflix

I went to an Enrichment night several years ago where we were sharing good books to read with each other. I wrote down a bunch of books that I wanted to read on a little scrap of paper, and then that paper has floated around my house ever since. Most recently I found it in my spare bedroom, my car, then my jeans pocket, then the clean laundry basket. I finally decided to sit down and add them to my list here I went to an Enrichment night several years ago where we were sharing good books to read with each other.

I finally decided to sit down and add them to my list here on goodreads. However, I suddenly have lost the slip of paper that has been everywhere for years. Seriously, this is why I like this website a lot more than my old system of book filing. There were some other books on that slip of paper. Maybe I wasn't meant to read them because I can't remember what they were.

I had a hard time deciding whether to give this book or I guess books four or five stars. The story, although based on a familiar one to Christians, certainly kept my interest throughout. Lund is skillful in using what the Bible records Jesus as saying rather than having him say fiction the author makes up. What I especially liked in this series is the way it makes the miracles very real in a way I'd never really visualized them before. The fictional characters' story is also interesting. I liked the way that the Roman characters are handled. These are men who except for one centurion could have been portrayed as villains, but instead are portrayed as ordinary human beings acting according to their beliefs.

This is such a great series. It helps you understand so many things about the New Testament, like, who are the Pharisees and Sadducees, what the different cities are like and what it's like to live and travel between these cities. I only gave it 3 stars because in this first book, the author uses mostly dialog to describe details of the culture, which ends up sounding like awkward and boring dialog.

The books This is such a great series. The books get successively better, though, and the third one is very well done. I enjoyed these books as a possible portrayal of what it might have been like to know Jesus Christ during his ministry. I liked the parts where the fictional characters discussed and talked about what they thought his parables meant.

I felt like the series ended too abruptly. There was so much plot built around the fictional characters that was completely left unfinished in the end. I would have liked a better ending for all of the characters overall. The writing style was not my favorite, but I I enjoyed these books as a possible portrayal of what it might have been like to know Jesus Christ during his ministry.

The writing style was not my favorite, but I would recommend these books.

I absolutely love this series! I love it because helps me understand the Savior better. Even though it is fictional, all of the Savior's words are not altered from the scriptural account. It helped me to understand how people came to know Him, or not, during His time on earth because of their faith, or lack thereof. This book, number 3 in the series, chronicles the events of the crucifiction so I could understand exactly how that happened.

Partaking the sacrament was especially neat during and after reading these books. I now have read two of the three volumes. As a Biblical history buff the brilliance of the author in putting the reader in the 1st century with all the political intrigue and power struggles along with the mores and familial relationship quagmire allows the reader to better discern the unwritten meanings of the Biblical writings.
