This review my be a little all over the place, because I have a lot of thoughts about this book. I hope the author takes it has constructive criticism because I do think there was potential. First, kudos to the author for not shying away from some hard topics. She touched on some things that I had never read about in a novel before, and I applaud her for that. Next, I thought Neil and Kari's relationship was cute. There relationship was believable for the most part. I can understand why Neil was so taken with Kari when they meet.
Once we find out who he is, I think it must have been nice to meet someone who like him not his relationship. However, I thought there age difference was a little hard to swallow. She is 17, and he is Later in life 6 years is not a huge difference, but when one person is 17, it's a ton. Also, I thought their relationship moved to quickly, especially considering what happened the last time Kari moved to quickly with a boy. This brings me to my next point. The timeline in this book was weird. There would be times when I thought days or weeks had to have passed because of how much happened, but then Kari would say something about it happening early the same day or the day before.
The timeline could have been stretched without adding any more events and the story line would have become much more believable. Also, I spent the whole book under the impression that they were in a city in the Midwest. I know they talked about riding the subway, but they also talked about Chicago, and when Neil was talking about it, it was implied at least to me that it was only a few hours away. Add to that the fact that Kari's mom appeared to be a die-hard Bears fan and voila - Midwest.
I was confused by that to say the least. I don't care that it was 1st person, the million exclamation points are not necessary. The reader should add their own emotion to the lines as they are reading. It is not necessary to do it for them. On the same note, this book read like an adult trying too hard to sound like a teenager. It read like the author learned how teens talk from watching teen dramas on TV. Not the most realistic. I thought the plot wrapped up way to neatly and to quickly. All of a sudden, there was a confrontation and it was over. Plus, when Kari finally went to the police.
They could have just gotten a search warrant for Eddie's computer, found the file then arrested him for statutory rape and creation of child pornography with the intent to distribute. She was 16 at the time. It would have upheld. Of course, this didn't happened because it didn't go along with the author's plans for the story line, but I think it's what should have happened.
And can I just say that the cover has nothing to do with the book? Anyway, like I said, I liked the premise, and I liked the characters, but execution needed some serious work. I think sending this book to a professional editor would have taken care of a lot of these issues. They are things that you wouldn't change just doing a reread on your own. Received an ecopy in exchange for an honest review.
No compensations were given to alter the rating. All opinions are my own. This is an enjoyable and truly wonderful read. I wish all books I read would be this great and I could give highest ratings left and right. I was pleasantly surprised to find it so interesting and catchy, as it's rare for me to read a book in a single sitting one that isn't a short story. I might add that it's 8a. I feel like I haven't read anyt Source: I feel like I haven't read anything like All My Life in a very long long while.
This book practically blew my mind with every chapter. When I was through I had this moment of sadness because I had read it in a single sitting, devouring it in a few hours, and I wished I had more pages to read and bask in the feelings this book oozed out with each one. Really, the summary doesn't stand close to the true story this book reveals, it's a lot more than it sounds like. Kari, while insecure about anyone finding out her secret which you will find as original , she's also strong and determined, she's a definite realist maybe pessmist and there's nothing that would deter her from keeping her secret and finally being free from the obligations to Eddie.
As it happens, she meets Neil, exactly the type of guy she should avoid. But how can you keep cool when he's so considerete and insistant on getting to know Kari, and so absolutely charming? And she is a natural, guys! I wish I could do it myself If I had an actual copy of this book, I would probably rub my face against the cover and hug it real thight.
It had me crying, laughing, stressing and having a mental mind blow, I almost got a heart attack when Neil and Kari kissed! I loved Kari's relationship with Neil, Nalini, Josiah and Agnas, they were like a huge family- going through bad times together, laughing at silly jokes and keeping together when shit got real. Their conversations were fun to read , they had me desperately wanting this book to never end, so I could hang out with them every fucking day.
I really enjoyed Rucy Ban's writing, she wrote such a profoundly touching and real love story, and delivered it in as little as pages. The plot twists and its non-predictability had me on the edge, the characters were poignant and fun, everything was remarkable and I wouldn't change a thing. This book is a gem and Rucy ahould be proud of it, I hope she writes more of these kind of books.
All My Life is a truly refreshing and different read from the big mass of NA books produced monthly. It's a poignant and profoundly fantastic story of a girl who fights back her demons and finds love in a tattoo parlor. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on Rucy Ban, I believe she has a lot in store for us.
If you, my dear reader, are tired of predictable love stories and enjoy NA Contemporary romances, this book is a must read for you. You won't regret it. Let me start off with telling you I just Loved this story. It was original and had some turns that I did NOT see coming. It was truly a very attention grabbing book and I am so honored to have gotten the chance to read it and share how much I adored it with you.
It deserves the High Ratings that it gets. This story follows a young woman who has a secret. A secret that horrible and just infuriates and breaks your heart all at once. But she is surviving. She is pushing day to day counting the time Let me start off with telling you I just Loved this story. She is pushing day to day counting the time till her nightmare is over. This is where we meet Kari.
She is enduring this and trying to find a way to live her life to the fullest she can. Kari may seem like the girl that needs to be saved, but give her a chance. She will surprise the heck out of you. Neil keeps popping up in her life, and despite how she wants to feel, Kari is extremely attracted to him. I mean really, as long as it takes her to realize it I am begging for him to turn my way! Can we say Perfect? Slowly but surely Kari starts to lose her will and fall for him. With falling for him she grows closer and he is inevitably exposed to her past. The one she is trying to escape.
This is THAT story.

No, not THAT one, the boy save girl yadda yadda yadda. Or, at least that is how it was for me. I feel blessed that Rucy asked me to read it. It was a honor. It was well written and an amazing story in itself. The Characters were Extremely lovable in this book as well. They were the type of characters that stay with you for a long time.
Even the supporting ones were fully developed and you really got to know them. I felt like a part of the family reading this book. You feel all the emotions they go through in this book. In other parts I was literally laughing out loud. On-Lookers more than likely think I belong in treatment somewhere for how many times I yelled at my Ipad. It is that type of a book. You are invested in the characters and their stories.
To Top it all Off? Well this story was not what I was expecting. Actually the first 5 pages, I felt so sad for Kari.

My heart went for her. I think what happened to happens to a lot of girls. They are just too embarrassed to tell anyone. What happened to Kari, I could not believe that her mother did not notice a change in her. Her mother just took as truth anything that Kari said. Her mother only seem 3. And it seemed like if someone specifically a man smiled their purely whites at her, she was fine. With Kari, at first I thought she was all over the place with her emotions. She stated that for a year she stayed away from guys and I was worried once Neil came around that she was going to fall into the same web.
However, Kari surprised me. Neil, well Neil was hot and bad and just yummy and so perfect. I did not know his true intentions at first, but I think I was just as leery as Kari to be with any guy. A little over half way in the book we find out who Neil really is. It was hard for me to believe that no one said anything to Kari before she found out. I really did not know where the story was going and I love that in a book.
What happened in the beginning of this story really upset me. I was seeking revenge and justice immediately. However, Kari meets Neil and I am so glad their relationship developed at a good pace. The dialogue at times seemed a little misplaced. However, it did not take away from the story. It was a nice romance. A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
But if I were to rate it on how well it was written, or the story line, I might go a bit lower. There were gaping holes in the story, and so many unbelievable factors thrown in it was like the author had a list of requirements for making an exciting book and she closed her eyes and pointed.
To 10 of them. But I will say there were parts that made me giggle out loud, or made my heart go thumpy thump, and for me that adds a whole lotta extra points. I really liked this book. One of my top summer favs. Loved Kari and her friend. The sex scenes are off the charts hot. I don't know how I feel about it really weird and moved too fast almost jumping right over important parts Would NOT recommend. Still, this in no way affected my opinions of the novel.
I initially gave this 4 stars, then I changed it to 5 stars and then changed it again to 4 stars. I wanna give this novel a new cover that isn't as steamy just so more people will grab it. Though I do get how the cover relates to the story but the novel in itself isn't as racy as the cover might suggest. So anyway, enough with the cover! Kari has a secret that she's been trying to forget but Eddie won't let her. She tries her best though to move on with her life and she starts working on the tattoo parlor in front of her house.
Then she meets Neil Mars and the collective panties all around the world drop. It's just that, it's really hard to tell you anything because it would be a spoiler. And I'm saying this, you don't want to be spoiled. Do know that the plot to this novel is unique. Are you tired of characters hiding a secret that's really lame or common? In here, Kari's secret is the first I've read and I don't think I've ever encountered a novel with the same set-up as this.
She's smart, she goes to college and actually attends classes! This book has some scenes where she goes to classes. Don't you know how rare that is in New Adult? I love Kari and Nalini's friendship, Kari and her interactions with Agnas, her boss, and how strict yet understanding though passive-aggressive her mom was. I had so much fun reading this because of all the characters. I also adore how Kari second-guesses herself, has insecurities but still, she's not a downer.
She's not the woe-is-me kind of girl and I love it! Of course, there's Neil Mars. Neil Mars is a new addition to my book boyfriends. He has everything you're looking for and I'm sure he'll be the dream guy of many many girls who'll read this book. Oh and yes, he cooks! And he falls in line for so long just to get you the yummiest BLT in town.
Ain't that a keeper? Rucy Ban has written characters with depth and small conflict arcs coupled with an overarching one. The conflicts were believable and convincing and you'll certainly get invested in Kari's life and her relationship with Neil. Side characters also get some of their own stories and it was such an amazing feat because aside from the ending, the pacing was great.
Every scene was pertinent to the plot, giving the novel such a satisfying quality to it. It delved on family, blackmail, sickness and fame among others. Topics you wouldn't see jammed together but Rucy Ban has successfully made it work. Rucy Ban also wrote such beautiful scenes and her imagery while fun to read, resonates.
It reads true, sounds true and feels true. I found myself nodding at a lot of lines, similies and metaphors. So many sweet lines I'm sure people on Tumblr will love to make into graphics. Here's a kinda funny excerpt but just as true. I think that's why people often compare love to drugs.
It's like a perpetually unfurling, growing yearning. The more you taste it, the more you crave it She compares love to drugs and uses words such as "unfurling". But that leads to Kari remembering how she's cooking some pasta and that it's probably overcooked by now. Don't our thoughts just flow like that?
I also like that about how All My Life was written because we can totally read about Kari's thoughts and we can see her thought process. Rucy Ban injects some musings and deep thoughts into the scenes and ends it in a fun way which makes All My Life not too serious that you'll just cringe at how serious it takes itself. All My Life is a must-read for all new adult fans and for anyone who wants a fresh romance novel with equal parts swoon and steam. I had such a great time reading this as it was engaging and enjoyable.
Rucy Ban, I am certainly excited for your future novels! First I should say that the cover is a bit racy compared to what actually takes place within the pages of the book. It more talk than action which I'm totally fine with. I tried not to use too many spoilers and especially didn't want to give away the major crux of Kari's story, so the reader can learn that for themselves. Kari is in a predicament that does happen to young people a lot in real life.
They find themselves trapped in a difficult situation and believe that their either at fault or they First I should say that the cover is a bit racy compared to what actually takes place within the pages of the book. They find themselves trapped in a difficult situation and believe that their either at fault or they have no one to help them get out of it. They see their situation as hopeless and are probably embarrassed. One thing Kari had was a loving mother she could go to for help and support. But Kari thought her mother was already too overwhelmed with her recent divorce and decided to deal with it on her own.
Kari was young and naive and was clearly being taken advantage of. She did not realize that the young man, Eddie was clearly breaking the law and she has grounds for reporting his intimidation's. I'm not sure what a good title for Eddie would be but I will use Sociopath. Before they're found out, Sociopaths are always loved by all and Eddie was no exception. He even had the good looks so Kari probably didn't have any chance of avoiding his charms. I liked Kari's relationship with her mother, it wasn't perfect but her mother was very honest and open with Kari about life. It just goes to show that you cannot completely prepare you children for every aspect of growing pains and teach them how to deal with the trials they might face especially the exploitation from the users and abusers out there.
I keep thinking that maybe Kari's mom should have instilled in her no matter what you can come to me with anything. Or maybe Kari should have been taught that having sex with a guy because she was worried he might leave her if she doesn't is not the way to go. But then I feel bad because in no way what happened to Kari was her fault or for that matter her mother's.
No surprise Kari developed trust issues and became introverted. Kari's run in the Eddie happened really early in the story so I didn't get to see her personality but she did remark that she was more outgoing before.

Later Kari made some friends and reluctantly decided to trust a really sweet guy who became her boyfriend and a fun side of her emerged due to these new relationships. I liked her good-natured ribbing of Neil and Nalini. I also had some laughs at her ramblings and eccentric reactions to embarrassing moments which led to more embarrassing moments. Kari had very powerful people in her life and she was so clueless about the power and 'fame' of her friends.
I thought that was so cute and it shows how unaware she was about the world outside. I think most of this had to do with the spirit crushing experience she had to face right at her entry into adulthood.
She figuratively locked herself away from life. I kept wishing she would tell her mother but I was so happy she met the people she did. This story might have been about the exploitation of Kari by Eddie but within this coming of age story we find a sweet love story and how life can place good people in your life who are there for you when you most need them. I would have loved to learn more about the legal issues Kari and her friends faced and maybe more about Neil and his mother Agnas.

There were obviously some past issues there besides her current health issues. I loved Nalini and thought she was the perfect friend to come into Kari's life and at the right time, both her and Agnas actually. All My Life captured reality in this compelling story of the pains of growing up, persevering through difficult times and how good it is to have supporting friends and family who got your back.
All My Life Author: New Adult Publish Date: April 28, ISBN: People who post videos and pictures of their ex-partners as a way of seeking revenge is an act nothing short of reprehensible. The more this serious subject is brought to the public forum, the better it is for the victims, Title: The more this serious subject is brought to the public forum, the better it is for the victims, which can then bring about more laws against this type of exploitation. Although in this book, it was more for extortion than revenge. But by taking that chance, an author leaves herself open to criticism.
Hopefully, in my case, constructive criticism. To start off, the synopsis was a bit confusing. With the mention of vampire and werewolf, I had to read it a second time to make sure that it was not a paranormal book. Yes, this character had this awful occurrence happen to her, and I get that the author wanted to express her vehemence against the act; but as a reader, I was not yet invested in the character. She seemed whiny at times, and I felt as if I were listening to the ramblings of an irritating teenager throughout the book.
Overuse of italicized words and exclamation points from page to page became redundant and incredibly annoying. Too many fragmented sentences and the awkward transition from one sentence to the next made it difficult to follow the story. I wanted to connect with the character, I really did. The event was only one year in passing, and she denounces all men with fervor yet she becomes completely enamored by her male counterpart, Neil, so quickly. There was just too much internal monologue. It made it very confusing for me to follow the story. The back and forth conversations she was having with herself seemed random and convoluted.
I really had a hard time reading it. The book could have also used a good editor. What I did love was the cover. A copy of this book was provided for this honest review. All My Life was an incredibly honest, emotional, intense read. After reading the Prologue, I knew this was going to be an interesting and unique story.
When I finished the first chapter, I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time, and all I could muster was that bastard! All My Life is a story of a young girl who falls for a guy who ends up deceiving and hurting her in the worst way. A couple years pass by and the ghost of her past is still hanging on tight and will not let her go no matter what. Will she ever get out of this HELL that is her miserable life? Will she ever be able to trust or love anyone ever again?
Greatest Hits
One glance across a busy street, and she found her answer Kari finds her self working at a tattoo shop out of all places, training to be an artist. She always aced her art classes, how hard could it be, right? Oh, how her mother would not approve! While working there she makes great friends and her life seems to be normal for a little bit, until that Friday of every month comes around and she is confronted with her horrible past once again.
The light at the end of the tunnel seems so far away until she sets her eyes on the beautifully handsome Neil. It was LUST at first sight for sure! Neil swoops in to her life, buys her the best BLT she has ever eaten, and makes her feel all kinds of sexy and beautiful. It has been SOOO long since she has felt this way. She could actually fall for this wonderful, sexy man! Both of them have secrets, but once they are out in the open, that's when they can really start to trust each other and find something real, something they have never experienced before with another person.
The sexual tension and chemistry between these two characters were my favorite part of the story. That, and also the suspense was killing me since the beginning of All My Life.
‘I been in hell all my life’
This little gem of a book surprised me, because after reading the blurb, I wasn't sure what to expect, but since I devoured this in one night, you could say I was delightfully surprised at how fantastic this truly was. The other great thing about this were the other characters involved in Kari and Neil's life, Agnas and Nalini. The story of Agnas, Neil's mother, absolutely broke my heart, and Nalini made me bust a gut laughing so hard with her quick witted remarks and catch phrases. Once again, I love to find a book that makes me go through so many emotions at once.

I definately recommend All My Life by Rucy Ban, if only for the fact that this story will stay with you long after you finish reading it. Book recommended for die-hard YA somewhat-realistic Romance fans. Kari attends college as the youngest in her class and takes up a job as a tattoo artist in a tattoo and piercing salon called 'The Prick'.
After working there for a while she meets her boss's son, Neil. Neil is hot, rides a motorbike and likes dancing Neil makes her believe there are good guys after all. Why is it somew Book recommended for die-hard YA somewhat-realistic Romance fans. Why is it somewhat-realistic? Well for a start she's a 17 year old tattoo artist. Neil is a fan of dance. Neil is 26, and this doesn't seem a problem. Things just seemed to come out of the blue and were a little far fetched at times.
There was the confusing first chapter, which was probably not needed. And the book switched from a YA romantic humour to an angsty teen book every so often. I also think it should have a more appropriate title and cover, the saucy cover does not fit a YA book. Why I liked it? There were some silly LOL moments for me, there was fun and a gentle romance. The supporting characters were fun, Kari was also, but Neil was a little bit boring for me. I really don't think it's for everyone. Boys are like candy. Forrest Gump on teens? There comes a point in your life when you just have to hit back.
Because if you don't, you know you'll lose an essential part of yourself. Seventeen year old Kari carries around a secret. She's been carrying that burden around since she was sixteen and it's impossible to move past when it keeps rearing it's ugly head. It ripped her heart and her ability to trust to shreds. Especially when it comes to the opposite sex. When Kari meets Neil Mars she can't help the attraction that she feels.
