Furthermore the research is aligned to the Australian goals of Promoting and Maintaining Good Health, as the project aims to increase access to health services throughout rural and remote areas in Queensland. Mobility of internationally trained dentists in Australia The migration of International Dental Graduates IDGs into Australia has been encouraged to reduce the gap in the provision of dental services. In addition, there are questions on the usefulness of recruiting IDGs based on their movement patterns into, within and out of Australia.
To date very little research has been done on the nature of movement and the factors influencing movement. The broad aim of this study is to examine the mobility patterns of IDGs in Australia. The study follows a mixed design approach, where qualitative research assisting in context building and scale development phase I leads to the quantitative evaluation and assessment component phase II.
The results of the study could assist in the formulation of ethical and sustainable policies on the migration of dentists into Australia. In addition, better understanding of mobility patterns of IDGs will benefit dental labour force planning, so as to articulate training of Australian dentists and migration policies to meet current and projected demand for dental care.
