It is both a second chance at love and dreams story that draws the reader in and never lets go. Chase Taynor and Jessica Parker were high school sweethearts but Chase left to pursue his dream of playing major league baseball. Now after a disastrous 9th inning where he gave up the chance to win a world series he has come back home to wait to see if any baseball team will give him a second chance.
Jessica is busy trying to save her family's failing diner which she inherited. Trying desperately to juggle the life of a single mom and the diner is all that is on her mind until Chase suddenly is back in her life. Will this second chance at romance for Chase and Jessica win out in the end or will Chase's second chance at his dream win?
This poignant and delightful Hallmark story is a must read. I gave it 4. The heat level is zero in this book that was a Hallmark original movie. I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
The Perfect Catch
Mar 22, Maria Thomas rated it really liked it Shelves: I liked this book adaption of a Hallmark movie. I saw the movie some time ago and as I read the book I could see each scene play out like my memory of the movie does. Like all Hallmark romance movies, which I love to watch, it was just a little on the sappy side. I believe that is why we like Hallmark movies. We are allowed to sigh and swoon a little especially as we come to the HEA moment.

The Perfect Catch (TV Movie ) - IMDb
My favorite moment in the book is when Chase asks his father for advice. It is a touching moment since their relationship has been strained for so long but Chase is willing to set it aside to hear what his father has to say.
And then his dad tells him that he once had to make a similar decision so he made a list of everything he would gain or lose by taking a job. One column showed money, opportunities and travel. The other column only had one word. Oh, such a swoony moment. I loved that the main characters in the book are so supportive of each other.
Chase is willing to help Jess achieve her goals and Jess is happy for Chase to achieve his even though it means he will leave her behind. She is heartbroken yet wouldn't consider trying to keep him from his goal. Also, I loved that the boyfriend that is all wrong for her gets to have a HEA as well. He isn't a bad guy, he is just the wrong guy.

And in keeping with Hallmark romance, the book is clean. No sex, violence or language. Cute, heart warming novel that is a HEA. I really didn't expect the ending it had, but I wasn't disappointed either: I like the relationship Jess and Chase have, the banter, how they just know and understand each other.
I am glad she didn't end up with the guy who blew her off and didn't support her. I like how Chase was with Wesley. This book had a lot of broken people, not just the main characters, and it was really neat the ripple effect that helping had in the book. I received an advance copy to review from the publisher. Apr 03, Sonya Wasden rated it it was amazing. Jessica Parker and Chase Taynor had been sweethearts and had planned their lives after graduation, but Chase got a call to play baseball with the big boys so he left Parker Falls and had been gone for 15 years.
Jessica had moved one, married, became a mother, divorced and now was raising a son, Wes, alone, while trying to keep her family's diner in the black. She had to come up with something else to breathe life back into her place. He had not been resigned with Boston and now was a famous baseball player without a team.
He had come back to Parker Falls expecting it to be for only a couple of weeks, but the possibility was there that his career would be over. As he began to reconnect with Jessica and bonded with her son, Wes, he saw that maybe he had been missing something in his life. Was returning to baseball the thing he wanted most or was a family with the woman he loved more important? He was going to have to make a tough choice but would it be the right one before it was too late? I really enjoyed this story. It was a sweet story of second change love and of love conquering all odds.
It was a story of rebuilding trust and learning to depend on the help of others in difficult times. It was a clean story with no sex or foul language and was beautifully told. I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Mar 26, Elizabeth "Eli" Olmedo rated it liked it. Wesley, as starved to learn baseball as he is for a father figure and role model, latches on to the professional player.
Watching Chase step up to plate and take the boy under his wing melted my heart. My numerous viewings of the made-for-TV-movie allowed me to visualize every scene as it unfolded. The story also needed more showing and less telling. Both are fairly new to the publishing world and those issues will probably work themselves out with time and experience. Though not a homerun, The Perfect Catch delivers a solid base hit. I recommend this story of love and forgiveness to Hallmark fans who enjoy cute, entertaining reads that still cling to family-friendly values.

When he meets up with Jess again, he gets his first inkling of all he has left behind, but it is her son Wesley with his mischievous charm that hooks him into becoming part of the community once again. Jess knows and understands that Chase is only going to be in town long enough to find another contract but in the meantime her bubbly personality and positive view on life draw Chase in once more.
The story is clean and tender hearted, with good people who care about one another and some fun laugh out loud moments. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review. Mar 27, Sara rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really enjoyed this book. I typically read historical romances, but I have a few favorite contemporary romance authors who are a must-read Jennifer Crusie, Kristan Higgins.
So, when I saw this book, I decided to give it a chance, especially since we're big baseball fans in my family; my husband played college ball, too. The Perfect Catch is a very sweet, second chance romance. The chemistry I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between Jessica and Chase is very believable, as are the issues they have to contend with. I also really liked the secondary relationships in the book, such as Jessica and her son and Chase and his parents.

The baseball element was a fun distinguishing characteristic. Carter is a strong writer who knows how to solicit emotion. Since reading this book I have learned it was based on a Hallmark movie, but that doesn't impact my opinion one way or the other. Knowing nothing about the movie, I really loved this book. This book is based on the Hallmark movie of the same name which I have not watched. It is a sweet story with a predictable ending but that is what you want and expect when it comes to Hallmark. You know you will finish the book with a smile. A clean romance for all ages from a young teenager say 14 to my 90 year old grandma. No sex, no foul language and no violence.

Mar 26, Christina Montminy rated it really liked it Shelves: I would definitely look for more books by this author. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review. She is trying to come up with ideas to save it. On top of the fact that she is struggling to keep the lights on, she inherited the diner from her grandfather, so the pressure is on to save it. Chase Taynor is a baseball player and happens to be Jessica's former high school love. A narration explains that on that day, Ben became a die-hard Red Sox fan.
Just about everything he owns bears the Red Sox name, emblem, or image of a Red Sox player with the exception of his toilet paper, which bears the New York Yankees insignia. Ben inherited his uncle's season tickets when Carl died from cancer. The story picks up 23 years later with Ben Jimmy Fallon as a school teacher who is immature for his age.
He meets Lindsey Meeks Drew Barrymore , a professionally successful workaholic executive. When Ben first asks her out, Lindsey rejects him, but she later changes her mind and agrees to go out with him.
The Perfect Catch: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie
On their first date , Ben finds Lindsey very sick and vomiting. She has food poisoning from a new restaurant where she had dined earlier that day. Ben decides to spend the night and take care of her, as well as clean up her bathroom whimsically telling her it was the "Vomit Elves" that did the work. The next morning, Lindsey, feeling better, finds Ben sleeping on her couch. Ben awakens, and he and Lindsey end up developing a romantic relationship. Overcoming her initial hesitance, Lindsey becomes attracted to Ben because of his ability to show passionate commitment to something.

That spring, he later pretends he is proposing to her but instead asks her to the Red Sox Opening Day , where Stephen King a longtime Sox fan throws the first pitch. Lindsey attends, but not being a baseball or Red Sox fan, she knows nothing about the Curse of the Bambino or even how to pronounce the name Yastrzemski. The two continue attending the games together until one summer night when Lindsey attempts to catch up on work by taking her laptop to the game.
Not paying attention to the game, she is knocked out by a line drive foul ball by then Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada off Mike Myers which ends up making the late night sports highlight reel. She eventually recovers but stops going to the games. Things take a turn for the worse when Lindsey invites Ben to accompany her to Paris, and he declines the offer because the Red Sox are in the heat of the playoff race. Before leaving for Paris, she tells Ben she is "late" and may be pregnant with his child, though they later learns she is not. Lindsey starts to become fed up with Ben's obsession with the Red Sox.
Ben agrees to miss a game against the Yankees in order to escort Lindsey to her friend's birthday party. Ben and Lindsey have a wonderful time together, and after making love, he tells her it was one of the best nights of his life. Moments later, Ben receives a call from his ecstatic friend Troy, who informs him that the Red Sox overcame a seven run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in team history.
Ben becomes irate that he missed such an historic Red Sox moment, greatly hurting Lindsey's feelings. After Lindsey miserably declares he has broken her heart, he and Lindsey separate for a while. Walker and Nikki Deloach were having another movie together, and after watching "A Dream of Christmas", who wouldn't want to see them working together again? Personally, the chemistry between the actors, in any movie, is one of the most important things for me. In the first the chemistry was there, and in here?
Oh boy it is there too. I started smiling like a fool ever since their first scene together. Nikki Deloach, aka Jessica, seems to be one of those people whose smile brightens the room when she steps in, and Andrew W. Walker aka Chase appart from being one of my favorite Hallmark guys seems like a pretty charming guy.
Put them together and you have this movie. Both characters were great, they both have a back story and i'm glad we got to see more of Andrew's character this time. The script was amazing, original - the theme was something I haven't seen before from Hallmark - I was waiting for the moment they would screw up the plot, but fortunately it didn't come.
Maybe, but in this case it's what made me enjoy the story. I knew there was a problem coming up or that they were about to have a scene alone. If there is something missing in this movie it's probably that scene between the characters in which the girl falls on top of the guy, or they are stuck together, those clumsy yet adorable moments.
And maybe a line that would make me laugh out-loud. I swear the movie lasted 30 minutes, not an hour and a half, I loved it. It's rare to see two leads working together again, three seems pretty impossible, but I really hope they get to do another movie together. Start your free trial.
