Step back from the well and you will see a "? Hitting A at this time will tell you how may squares of water you have left in the can. Now, walk over to one of the dirt patches on your farm. Your camera will snap to a birds eye view and you will see a hylighted yellow box around one square of soil.
Arkansas Fruit Tree Production Tips | Apple, Pear, Peach, Nectarine
This is the square you are focused on and the A button will again say "Use". This time, when you hit A the water will spill from the can and wet the soil that was highlighted. Unfortunetly the tracking of animation in this part of the game isn't real great so the water looks like it hit some other square most of the time, but as long as the selected square was dry you should see it darken to indicate that it has been waterd.
Step back from the feild and the camera returns to normal and the "? Hit A again to see that your total water amount held by the can has decreased by one.

You can refill the can at any time. When it does run empty you will get an animation of a single drop of water falling from the can when you try to water a square of soil with it. The ledger in your shipping shed lets you order medium and large cans. Save your money on them untill year two, it's not that hard to refill the small can once a day when you start out. The money is better spent. However, once year two does role around and you have lots of money from following this guide, go ahead and get the large watering can since it's really the only tool upgrade with real value.
You will not need to water mature trees, but imature trees and crops should be watered times a day with the watering can unless it is raining. Soil has 4 shades of dryness, The darkest is totally wet, then slightly lighter, then very light this is when most people re-water and finally dusty bone dry.
When the soil reaches the dusty bon dry stage your plant may look somewhat wilted, if you water it fast enough it will bounce back. Hoes are digging tools that brake up the soil and make it easier for plant seeds to take root. Just equip the hoe and approch a plot of soil, once the one you want to till is outlined in yellow hit A to "Use" the hoe.

It's as easy as that. As long as you keep planting fresh seed in a tilled square of soil it will stay that way forever, but if you accidentally till in the wronge spot, don't worry, it will turn back into normal soil after enough time has gone by without anything growing in it. Hoeing the ground will really tire you out in the begining of the game, but you only have to do it once and it will make your character a lot stronger. Other uses for the hoe inclued cutting down unwanted trees and old crops after they produce fruit.
To get rid of an old crop's left overs just have the yellow focus outline on the crop's square of soil and hit A to "Use" the hoe on it. For trees you do exactly the same thing, but this time the game will ask you if you are sure you want to remove the tree before actually destroying it. Be carefull not to destroy crops that have not produced yet or trees you want to keep. You can also fill in holes left by root crops with the hoe, but this serves no real value as you can plant seed directly over the pits as though they were not there.
The sickle is a large sharp blade used mainly for cutting down the long grass in your livestocks pasture to make fodder. It is a hand held version of the better known Syth tool held by the Grim Reaper or any reaper for that matter. Modern day farmers don't use the dangerious Syth, but Sickles are still used today, but usually go by the name of weed wacker.
They are still dangerious, but easier to use. The Sickle can also be used to remove old crops that have already produced in order to open up the soil for fresh seed like we used the hoe for above. The procedure is exactly the same, just equip the sickle and press A to use it on the highlighted square. It's not really a tool, but it's one of the most important things for growing crops successfully and can help with a lot of stuff in the game in general. I'm not talking about you, the players eyes, but the characters eyes.
When you are holding a tool, but not focussed on anything the "? Hitting A at this time will tell you about the tool you are holding. Likewise, if you are NOT holding a tool and then focus on something the "Look" option will occur. Pressing the A button at this time will tell you about that which you are focussed on. Just change your focus to a square you want to know about highlighted by yellow outline and the game will tell you what kind of plant is growing their if any , where it is in it's development, what kind of soil it is and the state of the soil.
This is grate if you can't remember which plants have already flowerd or not, or are trying to see what feild to grow something in and have not yet learned which is which.
iTunes is the world's easiest way to organize and add to your digital media collection.
Also, approching a ripe crop with no tool equiped will change the "Look" to "Pick", hitting A at this time will harvest the crop and the plant remains may be removed by either the sickle or the hoe. Okay, he isn't really a too either, but her is very usefull non the less.
