This book starts with Happy being only 5 years old, living with his mom and his grandparents. It is clear from the start that the grandparents physically abuse both Happy and his mom. When Happy is 17 he stops his grandfather from raping his mother. When he and his mother get shot after a fight with his grandfather, Happy carries his mother to the town.

He and his mom are living in the house he grew up in, but his grandfather is in jail, and his grandmother died several years ago. When Marc, the deputy in town, meets Happy, he is immediately attracted to the very large man. It is clear Happy is a bit slow, but nothing too bad. Happy was a lovely character. He was a bit slow, but he most definitely knew what was going on. And I just loved how protective Marc was and how sweet he was to Happy and his mom.

I would figure he had a harder time getting over that, but no, Marc apparently had a magic penis. Jun 14, Nikko rated it it was amazing Shelves: Jan 03, Cocktails and Books rated it really liked it. I had to do some thinking about this before I sat down to review "Happy's Ever After". The book was great. There's no doubt about that at all. Stormy Glenn always writes an excellent story with well fleshed out characters with real personalities, and Happy O'Brian and Marc Walker are no exceptions.

Here's a quick rundown of the story. Happy and his Mama spent years at the mercy of his overzealously religious grandparents.

TEASER: Chance to Bloom by Dillon Hunter

They were brutally beaten on a daily basis and told that Wow. They were brutally beaten on a daily basis and told that they were the embodiment of sin itself. At the tender age of ten, Happy's grandfather beat him in the head with a brick, leaving him I don't know what word to use No doubt, his brain was damaged, especially since they never sought medical help for him.

Fast forward to the present, and Happy is a very large and handsome man who is rather childlike. I would describe him as innocent. His grandfather is long gone, and he takes care of his Mama at the farm house. He's not had much exposure to the world. One day, Deputy Marc is called to a disturbance. Two men are beating on Happy. New to town, he isn't aware of the situation, but he feels a very intense need to protect this man.

The book takes off from there. We're given a story with tension and fear, but it's also a pure romance. Marc and Happy fall fast, but Marc is tender and doesn't push anything. He's genuinely concerned for his man He includes her in their first "date", and he's more than happy to sit and visit with her when he comes to the farmhouse to be with Happy. I really like that about him. He was like a knight in shining armor, and I fell head over heels in love with him. The sex scenes are very hot, but they're also very sweet. Marc is very careful with Happy even with the overwhelming passion that they feel for each other.

Just a perfect balance. All in all, "Happy's Ever After" was an excellent book. Please don't be put off by Happy's innocence. He's just not worldly. By the end of the story, he was already learning about things, and he was looking forward to learning a lot more. I'm very excited for him, and I hope that Stormy Glenn will be able to give me a little bit more of Happy and Marc in future works.

I'm VERY highly recommending this one. Reviewed by Kenna for Cocktails and Books Jan 02, Leigh rated it it was amazing. This book is part of a series and should be read in order. Also this is a spin-off of the Blaecleah Brothers series and takes place in the same town with characters from that series showing up. First a warning to readers. The first part of the story can be hard to take. The publishers note listed above is not for the faint of heart. Happy and his mother have a very hard life.

Her parents were super religious and punished both their daughter and her son. Mother and son finally get out of the hellish situation when Happy is seventeen. His grandfather takes things too far and Happy saves both himself and his mother. Due to a beating Happy took at a young age he is a bit slower than normal, but far from stupid. Once things are explained or shown to him he understand perfectly well.

He is also the sweetest most loving man. He loves his mother with all his heart. Since their escape from their grandfather and with help from locals he has been able to take of his mother and himself. While working at a local business he is bullied by a couple of guys and the police are called in to the disturbance. Here is where Happy meets his future. Marc is a deputy who responds to the disturbance. He is immediately attracted to the bigger than life Happy. He quickly learns that Happy is a gentle giant and wants to get to know him better.

Marc does not look down on Happy for his slowness or not understanding of everything. He is patient and understanding, and has no problem explaining things.

A really lovely, and quite beautiful, story about the important things in life, the love between a mother and her son, and the power of finding your happy ever after. This book takes place in Cade Creek, a small farming town where everyone knows each other and your neighbors look out for one another. Happy is slightly mentally challenged a result of the physical abuse gentle giant of a man who adores and is protective of his mama. If there was a character that deserved a HEA in a book, he and Anna were it.

Marc loves Cade Creek and his job as a deputy but he comes home to an empty house every night. The romance that develops between Happy and Marc is absolutely wonderful. You realize that even though Happy has suffered so much abuse at the hands of people who were supposed to love him, he had the most loving soul and beautiful spirit. He was a beautiful man-child, gentle giant. This book was heartbreaking in places.

The abuse Happy and his mother suffered at the hands of her parents is sickening and a bit hard to read in the beginning so if those are your triggers, I would skip those parts. This book is part of a series and as such should be read in sequential order. It is also recommended that you read the Blaecleah Brothers Cowboy series as the characters cross over into this series. Happy and his mother were unwilling victims that they kept hidden and beaten into submission.

It was a miracle that Happy turned out a loving and trusting as he was. Even as bad as it got he always knew that his mother loved it. Even after they were safe other bullies tried to take advantage and make fun of Happy. It was wonderful how Marc seems to know from the first time he met Happy that he was happy and was willing to do anything to make Happy smile.

Happy knew he was slower than other people, but he never thought that his prince charming would ever find him until he met Marc. Cas keeps to himself and is not one for gossip. He's jaded and feels disdain for the royal family.

The last thing he expects is to find his soul mate among them. Prince Merrick has always hidden his desire for men. His parents are relentless in pushing him to find a woman to marry and produce an heir. Indeed, his mother plans a ball and invites every eligible young woman in the kingdom hoping Merrick will fall in love.

But Merrick has already fallen: Not for a woman but a man. Not for an aristocrat but a servant. Ever After has all the elements I adore in a romance novel: Cas and Merrick share a love of art Cas writes poems and stories; Merrick draws and horses. They bond over lingering conversation and passionate kisses. Merrick's sister Marjorie is a true gem, and his parents, while old fashioned, love their son. Cas's family and his friend Valor are nothing if not supportive. I love the close relationship Cas has with his younger sisters. Gentle and unfailingly kind, Merrick dedicates all his time toward helping children in need.

Cas is strong-willed and loyal, and would do anything for his family. Somewhat formal and archaic, but that's what made it so appealing.

A prince who has the world at his fingers and a valet who is dirt-poor and a servant to the throne, how could they hope for a happy ending? But the attraction between them is undeniable, tangible and inevitable.

May be the winter solstice ball is the answer to the prayers of these star-crossed lovers? However, I did hope for some refreshing details, some interesting and authentic twists and turns and alas, I got none! Oh, my sweet Prince! It was ok, they got a HEA but not a satisfying one for me. I was really, really surprised to All of my friends have loved Ever After: I was really, really surprised to find that the book is actually set in an alternate s or later-type era. There are cars, modern-ish clothes, modern plumbing, and modern conveniences. It was a little disappointing, to be honest. The story itself is sweet, sweet, sweet with very little conflict or tension. Sure, the two men try to hide their relationship from their family and friends, but everyone that does find out is immediately accepting. They are also both these perfect, kind, no-fault characters, something that was nice to read but didn't give that story the tension or realism I was craving.

I was hoping for a story with a little more substance. The basic plot reminded me vaguely of A Gentleman's Position , an all-time favorite of mine, and I was longing for something of similar weight. I didn't get that with Ever After: A Gay Fairy Tale , but I did get a nice, much, much fluffier story.

I really, really wanted to love this story to break my reading streak of mediocre books, but though I thought it was adorable, it wasn't a homerun for me. I'd recommend this one for fans of this author duo and for readers who want something to warm their hearts and give them as escape from reality. View all 8 comments. How can a prince and his valet truly find their Happily Ever After? As a result, the story felt a bit unnecessarily long to me, covering a lot of the same concerns over and over again, which left me feeling a bit bored and wishing that " something " would happen. Sooner rather than eventually. Yes, I got that the pining and longing was a large part of all Cinderella-esque stories, but that didn't alleviate those moments of monotony for me. Maybe I'm just not really a fairytale kinda guy.

I did truly love the ending sections, from their night of being stranded at the inn and forward.

That was when " things " actually started happening, some good and some that were heartbreaking, with the pacing finally being stepped up to what I usually prefer. It's a fantasy story about a young prince being pressured to chose a bride, but he instead finds himself falling in love with his new valet.

Although Merrick, the prince, and Cassius, his valet come from different backgrounds, they are very similar. There was so much to love about this book, some highlights: The way Merrick and Cas spoke to each other would hit me right in the feels. I'd find myself sighing or grinning. There's something about secret rendezvous that always make my heart and race and deliriously happy. I'd also like to give kudos to Riley Hart and Christina Lee for trying something different, outside their comfort zone.

It paid off because this was such a joy to read. I'm hoping there will be more stories- maybe the Duke of Lexington? I'm giving Ever After 5 "Magical" Stars!! I can see how this could appeal to many and also, I can see how some might be not as enamored. Prince Merrick has a lot of responsibility weighing on him.

However, Merrick knows his duty and he resigns himself to his fate, but it seems that his new vale 3 Hearts - BR with LiaB!! Cassius on the other hand, has a pretty big chip on his shoulder, having had to struggle his whole life to help support his family by working very very hard. I have to give credit because this is a thoughtful rumination on class differences and the weight of responsibility on both these men. It is realistic in the evolving relationship between a prince and his servant where crossing the social lines is unheard of and not condoned.

The attraction and feels are organic, and the inner turmoil these men go through was heartfelt. Despite my personal qualms, I'm sure many will love this very romantic story about two disparate individuals who have nary a chance at finding their happy ever after with each other. This is light in the overall angst thankfully, as well as having some good steamy scenes, but perhaps because of its fairy tale connotations, this clashed with its more contemporary leanings and thus, it felt disjointed and a bit underwhelming to me.

It's a truly beautiful Cinderella story which perfectly lives up to the stunning Jay Aheer cover which inspired its creation. Everything about this story works and I couldn't put it down, I loved the setting, the secondary characters, the world building, and I loved how Cas and Merrick found the courage to be a valet and a prince in love. For me, the steam level worked well within the almost medieval but with cars and mod cons feel of the narrative and with the relatively young ages Cas is 24, Merrick a similar age of the lovers. When the steamy bits do arrive, they're sweet and emotionally driven not just lustful, although they're definitely not tame. These two authors write brilliantly together and this book is no exception.

On top of the wonderful relationship development, this story also had some fairly unique world-building going on, too. Unlike most fairy tale stories, this world had no magic or make-believe, instead, the kingdom of Evergreen was a fascinating mix of old world and new, featuring cars and trains and household amenities not usually present in such stories, but still encompassing all the elements one might envisage when fancying up a fairy tale kingdom in their mind.

It was an interesting concept to undertake, but it worked well here. An element of the story that I really appreciated was in the impressive development of the secondary cast that made up the women in Cassius and Merrick's lives. These women sisters and mothers alike were spunky and strong-willed, and most of all, they were resoundingly and unequivocally supportive of Cassius and Merrick throughout the story. This is one of those stories I feel was practically written to meet my every personal reading desire.
