May 14, Claire Waldron-Gross rated it liked it Shelves: I used this with a kindergarten class that was learning about shadows and reflections and it worked pretty well.
The kids were fascinated by the way the illustrations related to the concept. The plot had a nice buildup and problem-solving properties. The story itself was a little too fantastical for kids to apply a ton of their shadow knowledge but they were interested in comparing the shapes. That would give me pause in future. The book would be appropriate for children between the ages of three and six. Children will appreciate the characterization of the lonely shad The Lonely Shadow, a winner of the Moonbeam Children's Book Award, features silhouette art by author and illustrator Clay Rice. Children will appreciate the characterization of the lonely shadow and may wonder about their own shadow.
Rice also features playful vocabulary and alliteration throughout the text. Additionally, the refrain that the shadow sings would be appropriate in developing phonemic awareness among young readers. Some young readers may find the book slightly long. Additionally, the books offers an opportunity to share silhouette art with children and provides a ready-made craft opportunity to accompany the reading.

A few minutes ago, I was listening to this song again and I finally 'got' a line - this one: As a musician myself, my own stage name is not my 'real' name, and it's almost alien to hear my own given name on stage or thereabouts. There was an error. General Comment For me this song is about a mummy displayed in a museum. It doesn't understand what happens and has only vague memories of the past. General Comment What you are concerned with is dependence, which is a fact, with all its implications.

Then there is a deeper fact, which is loneliness, the feeling of being isolated. Feeling lonely, we attach ourselves to people, drink, and all sorts of other escapes. Attachment is an escape from loneliness. Can this loneliness be understood and can one find out for oneself what is beyond it? That is the real question, not what to do about attachment to people or environment.
Can this deep sense of loneliness, emptiness, be transcended? Any movement at all away from loneliness strengthens the loneliness, and so there is more need than ever before to get away from it.
