Both of our DS's have 2 middle names, one from each side of the family. Posted Thursday 27 August I dont think 2 middle names are a pain. If i like 3 names and I couldnt decide I would give the child all 3 first name and 2 middle names I think its up to the parents at the time. I know of some people that give their child 3 middle names i think thats going a bit tooooo far but thats their choices in the end I think it is personal choice and I dont think their is anything wrong with it.
Really when you look at it. Its like having 2 last names but except its in the middle not the end. My dd only has one middle name but my ds has two.

Basically I really wanted Blaize for his middle name but df wasn't too keen until I suggested using df's middle name William as a second middle name for ds. He liked that idea so thats why ds has two middle names. I don't think it will be a pain for him. His last name is short so his name isn't overally long. He said it has always been a pain. He refused to even consider naming our kids one thing and calling them by their middle name. I go by my middle name and it really isn't a problem.
I usually go by my first name at the doctor since that's the name on my insurance, and when I was in college most of my professors called me my first name since it was easier than explaining that I usually go by my middle name. It's not a problem at all.

Esp when u sign legal documents, go to the dr or even collage and they call u by your first! Would not recommend it at all.
It honestly wasn't a big deal. You kind of just learn to answer to both especially at the doctors or at school.

I go by my middle name inez for some reason my parents decided it was great to name their twin daughters BOTH Blanca. I have no idea why. Lol but at school and legally I go by blanca but everyone family, close friends, people I meet outside school etc know me by inez which is so confusing since I don't exactly remember who and who call me which name. Plenty of people go by their middle names, so it's definitely an option. But since many are saying it can be a pain with legal documents and such, I think you should consider again naming him Alexander Stephen. I think people generally place waaay too much importance on the way a child's first and middle name flow.
In actual daily life, how often will his first and middle names be spoken out loud? Feel confident in using Stephen as the middle name to honor your dad and use the name you want to call him by as the first. Alexander Stephen does not sound bad at all! My husband goes by his middle name because his mom thought the same thing as you that it looked and sounded better but liked his middle name better. That's all he's known but it has been a bit of a pain through life. I honestly think it's stupid to name your child something and not intend to call them that.

I have found it annoying when I have to give his info and I have to say well it could be under this or this. All legal things he's called by his first name. He's actually had issues with jobs because of it. Stephen, his first name was also his fathers so they decided to go with the middle name.
His mother goes by her middle name too. I don't think it's ever been a real issue at all. Most schools find out if there is a preferred name at the beginning of the year and so do jobs when baby is older.
