Dec 31, Jeanette rated it really liked it Recommends it for: An intriguing read following four women of three generations with tragedy, romance, conflict and adventure. I like the way the book explored the emotional issues surrounding adoption from the perspective of the relinquishing mum and the adopted daughter. I was a bit disappointed that the adoptive family though presented as loving were written out of the story very early on. Having one "biological" child and one adopted child - and my love for each of them and their love for me is just as strong regardless of how each child became a part of our family - I wonder whether loving adoptive parents would have given up on the relationship so easily despite past pain and especially in the circumstances presented in the novel. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

Mar 31, Omega Writers rated it liked it. Maybe the storyline has been a little overdone in recent times. Young boy meets young girl - girl become pregnant - young man dies in Vietnam war and mum and dad do what mums and dads sometimes do and so on through the ups and downs of very rocky relationships to an eventual happy ending.

If I could make a change to the book it would be that the main characters in the novel are listed at the beginning of the book rather than the end. I found it difficult to remember who belonged to which family and if I had known from the start that they were listed at the end of the book a lot of frustration would have been avoided. Overall however a very readable story with much to be enjoyed by young women of all ages. DS 2 Four established women authors have undertaken the mammoth logistical task of producing a collective narrative.

Together, they introduce four different women in a family saga spanning over 4 decades. The Greenfield Legacy explores the consequences of a single decision and its rippling effect across time and generations. Are we prisoners of our past? What unforeseen costs are we prepared to endure when we choose to keep a secret?

Can an unacknowledged past hold not only ourselves captive, but imprison those we love the most? With a solid cast of characters, the story is told from the personal perspective of each main player in the central drama. For clarity, the intricacy of the family tree is detailed at the end of the book.

Feb 09, Adam Collings rated it it was amazing Shelves: Four of Australia's Christian authors come together to tell the story of a family - spanning three generations. A legacy has been passed down through the Greenfield family - and not a very good one. It is a legacy of judgementalism and refusal to understand the feelings of others. When a long-lost member of this family re-appears she brings a new hope to the four protagonists of the story. Slowly, a new legacy is built - one of hope. Each author in this collaboration wrote the point of a view of Four of Australia's Christian authors come together to tell the story of a family - spanning three generations.

Each author in this collaboration wrote the point of a view of one of the four characters. Each of them had their own supporting cast. This meant that there were a lot of people to keep track of, but as long as you stay alert it's not too bad. This was definitely a character-driven story, and the characters were very compelling, as were the various relationships between them.

The whole thing was written as a cohesive whole in a way that can only be considered impressive. In this book, we get not one but four character arcs - each of which comes to a satisfying conclusion. A great Aussie drama. Dec 19, Elaine Fraser rated it really liked it. The idea of four authors penning a book together seems fraught with conflict. However, after attending the launch at a conference in and hearing the authors speak about the process, I was impressed. The authors seemed to work in synergy despite being in various locations around Australia and with quite different styles of writing.

The fact that each author took on a different character meant each had a unique voice. As I read at least one of each of the authors' books previously, it was fun The idea of four authors penning a book together seems fraught with conflict.

As I read at least one of each of the authors' books previously, it was fun trying to guess which author had written which chapter. I didn't guess correctly! The book was plotted well and flowed easily despite having four authors. I love family sagas and reading about the ways in which decisions of previous generations can impact on subsequent ones and this book lived up to expectations.

A tangled web of romance and secrets makes this a great read for the summer months. It's not challenging, but is absorbing. Oct 25, Anne Hamilton rated it liked it Shelves: So hard to decide about this. On the one hand, five stars for characterisation. On the other hand, one star for plot. This is such a character-driven story with so many pauses as various elements of backstory are filled in that the plot is minimal. Instead of a natural rise and fall in the tension, this produces a curious flatness in both suspense and conflict.

The crisis, when it comes, does not feature the people who seem - at the beginning - to be most prominent. The pace for the most part is So hard to decide about this. The pace for the most part is slow. With each author concentrating on building one character and developing the relationships, plot has become more like interaction than advancing action. If you revel in full-bodied characters, this family drama is one for you. But if you like action, you might find it needs a bit of a fillip. Apr 06, Anusha Atukorala rated it really liked it. The Greenfield Legacy is a must read book.

I found it amazing that four different authors had written it and yet the book moved so seamlessly from chapter to chapter. The book uncovers a lot of vitally important issues - like the problems adoption brings with it and how a family's heartache or difficulties are often carried over from one generation to the next. Oct 23, Carol Preston rated it really liked it. Great collaboration from four great Aussie writers. Lots of romance, drama and great characters. Dec 20, Ausjenny rated it really liked it Shelves: Thanks to Rose Dee for my copy of this book.

I did enjoy this book and found it interesting with 4 different main characters that are all from the one family. We have Mattie the Matriarch of the family and we find out in Chapter one she gave up a child for adoption. The story then revolves round this issue and how it affected the various members. We have Connie who is Mattie's Daughter and Brooke her daughter. We also meet Navy Who is also related. Each character is written by a different author Thanks to Rose Dee for my copy of this book. Each character is written by a different author and there is a contest to work out who wrote which character, while this is a fun contest I did find at times it distracted me as I was trying to work out who wrote what part.

I would personally have rather known who wrote what part and not be thinking about who wrote who. The book is like a novella in many ways except its happening at the same time. We go from one character to another and see the story through different eyes. While I really enjoyed the story and the more I got into it the more I loved it I did have one issue with the early part. There are a couple of instances of swearing which shocked me and I thought were totally unnecessary.

I honestly don't expect bad language in a christian book and was disappointed. It wasn't enough for me to put the book down as it was early one and only 2 or 3 times and one was more cussing which others may not be offended by.

I say this just as a warning to some of my friends who also do not like bad language. It is this reason I can not give the book 5 stars but it is a 4 - 4. Feb 08, Shirley Corder rated it really liked it Shelves: This is an unusual book for two reasons. It has been written by four authors, and it has four main characters. Each character is written by one of the authors, and the four stories are brought together in a skilful way. The story is clever, and clearly shows the impact one foolish decision can have on future generations. A harsh, judgemental father triggers turmoil that disrupts the lives of four women and their families.

The story reveals the hardship and bitterness than can occur as a result of unforgiveness and family secrets. It is almost like reading four novellas interwoven to make one story. I found this book difficult to get into as the story jumped back and forward between the characters, and I battled to figure out who the characters were and how they related to one another.

Once I discovered the Character List at the end of the book, I found it easier to follow. As the characters developed in my mind, I began to relax and enjoy the story.

Being from South Africa, I appreciated the Australian descriptions and context, and I wondered how often the same story occurs undiscovered in our own country. I would definitely recommend this book for an intriguing read, although I would like readers to know about the Character List before they started reading. Thank you ladies for a brave idea cleverly implemented. Aug 19, Linsey Painter rated it really liked it. The Greenfield Legacy, is a wonderfully interwoven story of four women who are each battling feelings of rejection and unworthiness. When she is reunited with her daughter, almost 50 years after she had given her up Mattie begins to realise that she has a lot of soul searching to do and forgiveness to ask for and give.

The tensions that exist between the four women in this book are heart wrenching. Can Mattie's daughter Connie and granddaughters Brooke and Navy see past their own hurts and reach out to each other to heal the wounds from the past? Can they forgive their mothers before bitterness destroys any hope of happiness in their future? This book is an eyeopening and challenging book to read in that it really examines the consequences of decisions for future generations as well as the hurt that is caused by unforgiveness.

At the same time it is such an absorbing, well written story that I could hardly put it down. Feb 03, Susan Barnes rated it really liked it Shelves: The Greenfield Legacy is the fictional account of four women who were all impacted by the decision, made by one of them, to give up a baby for adoption. The Greenfield Legacy

The story explores some powerful issues: These issues were handled skilfully and resolved well. It was unusual to have four main characters so fully developed in a relatively short novel and I suspect that this is the bonus of having four authors. There were also a large number of other characters in the story, perhaps another consequence of four authors? However I was pleased to find a character list at the back of the book which helped me keep track of them.

Overall I enjoyed the story very much and loved the Australian context.
