A MALE GRIEF: NOTES ON PORNOGRAPHY AND ADDICTION--DAVID MURA
I never saw the reality and severity of porn on this deep of level and didn't realize how much it was intertwined with the abuse I grew up with.. And the part about the abuse not having to be sexual, but rather the placing of expectations on a child to make up for the absence of his father I thought I was crazy for thinking my mom treated me as if I was him..
But now I see it was truth and the effect is my inability to cope with life healthily. I was unaware this would even do anything by reading this, but it's brought about a new and deeper awareness of the true nature of my wrongs and offered solution to pair with the 12 steps.
Follow the Author
The author spends an appropriate amount of time tackling a number of tough topics. This is not your typical, years of formal research type book, but the author did spend quite some time living life and drawing on his own experiences to provide the reader with a way out of his own addiction. Mura sets a flat -eyed gaze, but one no less sincere or rigorous, on the social and technological phenomenon of present day pornography.
This is not some dry piece of academia, but rather an emotive but still bluntly logical argument against one of our society's most poisonous and widespread incarnations. For anybody struggling with this addiction, Mura is a must read. Quick read, but I picked this because of personal interest, and found it knew more about my childhood than I did.
