The author maintains that several of these stories are first-person actual experiences he has had. In other words, they are true ghost stories!
American Supernatural Tales | theranchhands.com: Books
But among the ones the author does not claim as part of his life experience are some dandies. He doesn't explain what "the rumblin" is. The story is told from the POV of a family of campers. At first they dismissed the ranger as being a few donuts shy of a dozen, but when a fierce thunder storm wakes them in the night, they decide maybe it would be a good idea to head for the relative safety of the ranger's cabin. When they arrive, they learn that the ranger isn't the only "creepy" person hanging around.
The "rumblin" is some kind of local phenomenon which happens every once in awhile, always accompanied by a serious storm, and the effect it has on normal people granted, there weren't very many "normal" people in the cabin is unpredictable, but always unpleasant. And this is just one of the many creepy, scary stories in the collection.
If you like hiding under the covers, or leaving a little night light on, definitely read this book. It just might give you some of the best nightmares you've ever had!
The parts of this book that you may dislike? Well, it isn't all that creepy So, if you're a perfectionist with super high expectations you may want skip this book. These were three very original stories, my favorite being the one about "the rumbling". One person found this helpful. I thought this book was an ok read. I read it in one evening and it didn't give me nightmares or make me feel like I had to keep the lights on.

I love the horror genre, and when I read a horror novel or collection of stories, I expect to feel some level of fright or to at least get that "creeped out" feeling. It didn't happen here. This is a short collection of some of his original fiction and also of some paranormal experiences he had over the years.
I just didn't find it creepy enough for my tastes I suppose. I honestly don't think he did a good enough job making me feel scared or was thought provoking enough to read anymore of his works. Murdoch's Eyes creates an atmosphere of unease and fright from the opening lines. Bennington incites fear and foreboding in the reader for Gina's plight creating reader suspense.
Following the creepy and dramatic opening the story falls a bit flat. Dangerous and menacing Murdoch proves to be little more than a guy on an honourable mission, even if only justified to himself, and an ordinary battle between good and evil. The Ghost named Earl effectively sustains menace throughout this whole piece and effectively captures the style of a generic creepy ghost story. It seems the author had only two stories to publish and decided to fill in the book with personal accounts of true events.
The two fictional stories were okay. The plot of Murdoch's Eyes seems to be inspired by the old science fiction movies from the Saturday night Creature Feature I watched as a child. The mad scientist using his victim to cure someone's affliction. There is a new twist. Unfortuantley, the twist is not explained sufficiently enough to make it a worthy addition to the story.
The Rumblin could have been better.
