The photos, sketched portraits, and inebriated genius of the recipes themselves speak of good times, partying hard, and cooking naughty comfort food. This book gets me. I appreciate that there is a photo to go with every recipe. I find these helpful even on a normal day, but Hangover food and top chefs, what can be better? I find these helpful even on a normal day, but if I'm making middle of the night munchie food, I'm going to need those photos even more. Plus, they looked delicious. The steps aren't numbered and can get pretty long. But that being said, they're in layman terms and are pretty easy to follow. I think the book is a bit too long.
There's a lot of stories, which are relatively interesting, but they dragged on a little too much and took up a bit too much of the story. When reading a cookbook, I want the bulk of it to be recipes with complementary stories, not the other way around. The actual recipes were hit and miss for me. But there were a bunch that just seemed kind of boring, especially when you're looking for something that's next-level delicious after a long night out.
Overall, this book is worth a look through and it's something I'd like to have on hand, even though I might not have the ingredients when I want them. I received a copy in exchange for my honest review. Oct 15, Flavia rated it it was amazing. Even just flipping through this book for the first time made me hungry. So you can imagine how I felt when I actually sat down to read it cover to cover! You may be wondering why I am saying that I read a cook book cover to cover though, so please let me explain. This is not a cookbook containing only photos of delicious-looking food and the corresponding recipes, there are intros, and also full mostly-humorous articles which go with every single recipe!
The book is v Even just flipping through this book for the first time made me hungry. The book is very nicely sectioned off, so that you can find something specific that you may be looking for, or so that it pleases you to read through it if you like things nicely-categorized such as for a reader like myself. Munchies is a hardcover book; sturdily made so that it can make its home on your coffee table, or in your kitchen without being overly damaged. The pages are also of the highest quality, and will also be resistant to food and drink spills, as well as inevitable droolage.
Every single page of this book is glossy, and the quality of colour is very satisfying. Like I said above, this book made me very hungry and wanting to spend all of my money on restaurant outings. It also made me feel more open to experimenting with the mixture of certain food-types that I would not have normally thought to combine.
A great quality book, inside and out! Referring to himself in both first and third person sometimes within the space of a single paragraph , the self-proclaimed "King of the Kitchen Pimps" teaches readers how to become a "ghetto gourmet" with basics like scallops "rap'd" in bacon, shrimp cocktail Cold Shrimpin' , spaghetti Bro-Ghetti , and lettuce wraps Chicken Lettuce Blunts.
