Esmore goes on raids to take down vampires and rescue humans. Humans are then transported to a human camp where they live protected by hunters.

Vampire hunters begin their training at age 4. They are taught how to hunt as well as the history of the hunters and the world they live in.
When hunters reach 18 years, their gifts are activated and they are no longer hunters in training, but full hunters. They are given jobs within the guild based on their fighting skills and their gift. When Esmore turned 18 not only did she not obtain a gift, but she also lost her hunter eyes.
She remained a token huntress because of her fighting skills. She feels nothing but the desire to kill vampires. He is also Esmore's familiar. What is a familiar? Why does Esmore not obtain a gift? What is the darkness within her that she has fought to keep under control? I was absolutely impressed with this book. This was the first book I have read by this author. Esmore tries to resist Chase for as long as she can but her body and mind cannot resits him and the sparks that fly between them can keep them warm for the rest of their long lives. As chaos ensues on both sides them team up and become a force to be reckoned with and deal with whatever is thrown their way with a fierce love and bad-ass skills.
I honestly loved every moment of this book and cannot wait for the next one! The chemistry between all of the characters and the interesting take on vampires just had me hooked. This book has everything, action, adventure, steam, deceit, romance, frustration, and confusion on the part of the characters. The plot is thick and masterfully written, the characters are beautifully created, characters you love, characters you hate This book will suck you in from the start and keep you turning pages until the very end.

The novel is set about two or three centuries into a post-apocalyptic future where the sun is dimmed by the pollution in the atmosphere from a future world war. Esmore has another problem: At this point I have to say that the talents these hunters are bred for seems to be something of a modern trope in this kind of story: The hunters take no prisoners, so the question on why this world as it is, is never asked. Until Esmore meets Chase. Chase is everything most vampires could ask for in terms of erotic fantasy - and more. He is beautiful and apart from those fangs is also, to put it coyly, fully functional in many vampire novels they are not. Things now get to be steamy - and critical.
Esmore is to discover facts about her origins and true nature that will shake the foundations of what she has known of her world to the core. This is very much an action novel, so maybe the details of the world Esmore and her people live in is not much fleshed out beyond what we need to know. Her community lives within striking distance of what was once San Francisco, though how the vampires came into being and how the world has been affected by the Bomb do not really much enter into the picture of things.
There is something of a girl-power message in the way Esmore comes of age in this novel - she is very much a true hero, with more adventures to come in future instalments.
