Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Deliver Us The Moon: The Toasted Sandwich of Time. I slowly opened my eyes, looking around an unfamiliar room.
I was in a home I did not recognize. The sun was bright and it shone through the large living room. I was wrapped securely in a big, warm blanket as a small fire crackled in the fireplace just across the room. I could hear people talking in another room to my right, just before an officer came through the door.
He stopped a few feet away and kept his distance as he offered me a gentle smile. He approached slowly and knelt down next to me. Without warning, a sense of fear ran through me. I began shaking uncontrollably, and he quickly inched back, allowing more room between us. Is there someone I can call? Can you tell me what happened? I sat up, wrapping the blanket tighter around me as I stared at the two people watching from the doorway where the cop had entered. I assumed they were the same two people I had seen coming out of the barn only hours ago. The cop stepped away and dialed his phone, leaving space for the older woman to approach.
She turned and quickly headed toward the kitchen. I turned toward the fire, staring at the flames. My stomach began to turn as I remembered the things he said to me, the plans he had for me. I looked back as the woman returned, carrying a small glass of ice water. She carefully placed it in my hands, smiling kindly before exiting the room once again. I felt lost and broken. I spent so much time hiding, and now everyone would know. People would look at me differently, treat me differently. The idea of it all made me feel nauseated. Oh my god, what happened? My mind must have wandered off in the time it took for the police to locate her.
My hands began to tremble as she stepped into the living room and rushed in my direction. And then I saw him—Dylan had come too. He walked toward me and knelt in front of me as he reached out and took one of my hands in his. I could only nod my head in response before Dylan wrapped his arms around me and held me close. It was then that I let go and stopped fighting the tears I spent years hiding. The last thing I wanted was for him to let go. I looked up and shrugged. I was just remembering that day. Thinking about when Karen showed up.
Once again I looked down at my hands, still nervously picking away at the napkin I held. I reached out for him, wanting to pull him closer for a kiss. He shook his head before he reached up under my shirt and pushed it up over my head to where my hands were stretched out. I lifted my arms to him with the shirt still hanging loose around my wrists. Do with me as you please. He took the shirt and began to twist it a few times, pulling it here and there until my wrists were bound, and then returned my arms to the bed.
His body was perched above mine taking in every inch of me before he grabbed my panties, ripped them from my body, and left me bared to him. We both know what the BDSM lifestyle is about. I only live for the dominance, the submission, and a little kink in the bedroom. His face drew up in a scowl. He hated mushrooms as much as I did, but then it dawned on him. His lower body pressed against mine while his arms tried to support most of his weight.
A half smile lit up his face. I knew this was a pivotal moment and there would be no going back. I only hoped the risk of jumping in was worth it. I need you, Robin. I need your submission to me — body and soul. His words were heating me from the inside out, and I needed to feel the power of the connection surging between us. I wanted to experience the force of his dominance. A smirk spread across his face as his hand pushed some of my hair back behind my ear.
All I ask is that you trust me to guide you to where we both find nirvana. He continued to rest his weight on my lower body as he wiggled his way out of his boxers and threw them on the floor. His knees pushed mine further apart as he slipped his fingers through my folds to test my wetness. After all, I had pushed for him to be honest and then had bailed on him.
He was the perfect book boyfriend. I saw I had a text from Simone. Oh great, maybe she was asking for my blessing to go out with Nick, or if I was still planning to go to Watson High School next year so she could make out with him in a different hallway from my locker. Are you mad at me? He told her the whole gross story. Well, of course he did, seeing as how he was always over with her clique and he could tell the love of his life anything. Josh realized he was staring at the girl in the next row and pulled his gaze back to his notebook as the teacher droned on about supply and demand curves.
On Friday her hair had been long, the silky black tresses reaching below her shoulder blades.

Today, he could see the back of her neck. He could see how long and slender it was and watched as she reached around to feel it, seeming surprised, perhaps still unused to the short cut. She pushed the long front layer behind her ear. The purple streak is kind of cute, though. He once again forced his gaze back to his notes, reminding himself that he had a girlfriend; a beautiful girlfriend with long blonde hair. Get your mind off the pretty girl with the short hair. Griego picked up a stack of index cards from his desk. Every few days you will get a new financial situation you have to deal with.
Each week of this project will be the equivalent of one month for your budget. You will turn in a complete six month budget, along with a written report at the end of the project. Each couple will also give a five-minute oral presentation. There were groans and titters of laughter as the names were called because some of the couples were same-sex.
He stood and walked to the front of the room to retrieve the index card. Just what I needed. The girl with the short, purple hair raised her hand. Josh sat down in the newly vacated desk in front of Bernie. Any suggestions on what to read after Aleatha Romig truth??? Not only monsters in your stories, but monsters out of us!
And to finally be able to rant and rave publicly about it? Ahhhhhhh such sweet relief! Well, actually… part of it, for me, is easy. I love psychological thrillers. I love to be scared out of my mind on the safe side of my book or TV screen. So what happens when you combine the two? Freaky, scary, stockholm syndrome butterfly inducing, thrilling taboo!!! All sorts of social disapproval Dr. Drew was complaining about with Fifty Shades, the force, Stockholm Syndrome, etc. This was the real deal and for me this was a dark and compelling read. In reality, the monsters are exactly that, through and through.
Monsters in every way. But to read about it happening to a fictional character and experience it through her eyes. To find good in bad. To find light in dark. To find relief and comfort and moments of reprieve amongst the dread. To explore human coping mechanisms in monstrous circumstances. Do we find love and comfort amongst the monsters, even in fictional art?
With a genre such as this, each one experiences it differently, but one thing for sure, I have yet to find a reader say such a read did not have them on the edge of their seat. They may never read another one like it, and they may have had to put it down at times, but likely not out of boredom.
To take a break from the psychological and maybe physical terror? To halt the adrenaline surge? To step back from the emotional connection we might be experiencing to our dismay with the bad guy? Nahhhh… I doubt it. Guilty DARK pleasures of the kidnap-y kind. They are diametrically opposed. So you ready to get your feet wet? Your adrenaline spiked, your heart burned and your mind… bewildered? Basically are you ready for shock, anger, abhorrence and possible… infatuation, despite what your mind is telling you?
Just in the way that this story shocked me, put me in my place and did not let me get up for one second of the ride. A detective familiar with kidnapping cases and Stockholm Syndrome is kidnapped. I gasped, I shivered, I felt sick and I cried. Stockholm Syndrome gets me every time. Well, this one initiated me, trained me and whipped me into submission and I want more! Captive in the Dark The Dark Duet: Guess where I stayed? Husband went and played with his hobby, and I got to indulge in mine. Also check out the next two books in the series which were just as amazing: Seduced in the Dark The Dark Duet: One of my all time favorite series ever!
Guess mama was right. But… wait for it. Escape From Paradise by Gwendolyn Field Everything I wanted in a dark read but with a premise that allowed me to be comfortable in my love for it. These slave-trading monsters kidnap and force others into a life of sexual slavery but within the lap of luxury.
But what makes my Stockholm syndrome acceptable even in public is the budding romance angle. The monster she is falling for… might not be so bad. Beautiful on the outside but so demented… ugly… on the inside sorry Tony lovers. I will say this was one of the hardest anti-heroes to fall for.
I was scared EVERY step of the way, and any tiny loophole that Claire would find and try and use had me shaking in my boots. I knew… I just knew. If you like Stockholm syndrome books, read this. Another handsome young man, infatuated by a beautiful young woman… in an airport.
HEA Book Tours – Camille Taylor
And as these two strangers chat in the airport restaurant, he slips something into her drink, and she wakes up, in the outback of Australia!!! She must now rely on him to survive and what a journey it is. And I loved the developing… relationship. What it had to become after so much time in captivity, in complete isolation. Just the two of them. His intention to not get attached had him reacting and saying the most vicious things, and yet… like in all of these dark reads… she and we find ourselves falling for him.
This one killed me. And this tempting beauty is calling to his dark side. And his dark side is craving it badly while his good side is punishing him for even going there. Just not as dark or twisted as her others. A submissive escapes from a horrific hostage situation and is rescued by a man in the woods. She wants him to be her master. He wants nothing to do with that.
Good, short dark read, with a few surprises that kept me satisfied.
Oh boy this one tortured me from start to finish. No matter what, though, I was IN. Plus, the majority of slaves being trained are there against their will. No, not their original home. Go back to their master Stockholm Syndrome! I can only do 1 or 2 like this one a year as this pushes even my darker limits. Dark reads that I want to read next: Guy hired to kidnap and return the wife who ran away from her husband.
Except… somewhere along the lines, I hear the kidnapper finds out she escaped her serial killer. Anton will accept nothing short of her complete surrender as he molds and shapes her to be sold to the highest bidder. Thank you for that recommendation, Piper! Who still hitchhikes anymore? But she and her friend does, and they find a whole LOAD of trouble in the process. Harlen I heard this one is alllllll dark, always dark. Thanks for the recommendation, Christina. She gives herself over to three Doms in a Louisiana plantation. And a few choices from our fellow dark-read lover, Michele actually, TWO Micheles had some great recommendations, so here they are: She is kidnapped and escapes her captors and from what I gather is found saved?
As they travel, his behavior grows more deviant and increasingly volatile. Girl Abducted also by Claire Thompson. This one was a tough read, really messed with my head. Dark and extremely disturbing. He was scary and disturbed, but yet….. Did not like the male MC in some of her other books, but Ryan is hot and likeable.
Also, this is supposed to be a sequel to Deep in the Woods , but you can read this as a standalone. Hard to explain, but…. Underestimated by Jettie Woodruff Ela recommends it: Underestimated by Jettie Woodruff! She can, and does only to wake up and find herself back in the hands of the man she ran from. Every once in a while I like to deviate from my lovey dovey reads and read something that makes me question my sanity.
Has a very similar feel to CJ Roberts books. This book was the very first book I read this yr and I loved every second of it. Thanks for the great list! Yes, the brother was severely disturbed. I read that book well into the early morning hours and I remember sitting there after I finished it, unable to go to sleep for a while because it threw me so much. Just saw the Tied Man listed as one of you next. This book is one of my favorite books!!!
Excellent writer and excellent read. Have to agree with Natasha.
