Dark Waters - Chronicle of a Story Untold
For me, it felt very personal. I always feel a little uncomfortable when reading such personal accounts; I feel a little like I'm peeping in to someone's diary at thoughts that I should not touch. Normally, this is not the sort of book I read. I prefer fiction over non-fiction, and, when I do read non-fiction, I prefer it to be factual and not emotional.
This is not a sleight against this book, just my preference. I only mention this as a way of explaining my otherwise mediocre rating.
Because I should not have liked it and yet I did. It was put forth by my lecturer at uni as suggested reading, which is why I even thought to read it, despite being outside of my usual.

If you enjoy reading real life stories, this is superbly written and worth a read. Feb 29, Lisa-Jaine rated it liked it. I'm so glad that Magda Allani wrote this book. I remember the newspapers and reports on the incident at the time reported the disaster as happening to a boat full of models and socialites whereas it was a range of people and ages. Even if this were to be true, do they deserve any less sorrow for having lived fortuitous lives pre-disaster? This book gives those people both alive and dead a voice.

It humanises them and sadly with so many inquests and red tape that often doesnt happen. Jan 03, Ian Chapman rated it really liked it. I did enjoy reading it, and congratulate the lady author on this her first published work. A basic map of the London part of the Thames would help clarify things. At the end of the book, one question remained for me. Apparently a Canadian Ward rescued some seven people. Did he get any recognition? Perhaps as well as an index, also an appendix for such detail.
