A very detailed history of Switzerland from the prehistorical settlements to the middle of the 19th century. It is almost as much a primer on civics, ethics, patriotism, governance and human nature as the lessons from union and disunion, greed, class struggle, religious wars, etc.

Jun 01, Leonardo Almeida rated it really liked it. Excellent Thorough history of Switzerland up to the enactment of the Constitution. Anyone interested in the History of Switzerland will recognize the foundations of many of the peculiarities of Switzerland. Although written in the XIX century and being a translation from the original in German which influences the narrative , it is an excellent read.
