These challenges, combined with a sense of nostalgia for the quiet beauty of the countryside, led to the establishment of so-called garden, or rural, cemeteries outside the cities. Auburn Cemetery was the first such cemetery to be established in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Through the years it has stood as a model for the development of many cemeteries across the country.
The pastoral landscape of Maple Grove Cemetery took many years to develop. Winding roads were built, the lake was developed, and fences added.

Although charming and historic, the James Ware building had become cramped, technology-challenged and was unable to support family comforts and needs. Designed to meet the changes of the 21 st Century and beyond, The Center forges a link between the cemetery present, future and past and the community. Three hundred and sixty seven crosses are set out in Maple Grove Cemetery, done so by cemetery caretaker Steve Hawthorne.
It took Hawthorne, a veteran himself, several hours to place the memorials, but doing so is an honor for him, he said. Maybe there is still somebody out there who remembers Henry Frohnwieser, the bartender from the Hofbrau, or who remembers Caroline, Mary Ann, and Lynn Four, his former wife and daughters. If I come to New York again I will visit the area I know the Hofbrau was sold and probably nothing remembers the old times. This web site is really wonderful. If you have memories regarding the Triangle, Henry or his family please drop me some lines. Helmut from Munich, Germany.
