The Psychological Problem We may be bothered by the idea of an angry God because we know what our own anger is like. God is not insecure. He never gets upset. Yet God is still an angry God. There is no room for doubt. From Genesis to Revelation, our God is a God of anger.
What does the Bible say about? For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. For behold, the Lord is coming out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it, and will no more cover its slain. I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes.
The Rage Against God: Peter Hitchens: Continuum
Then they will know that I am the Lord , when I lay my vengeance upon them. The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebukes the sea and makes it dry; he dries up all the rivers; Bashan and Carmel wither; the bloom of Lebanon withers. The mountains quake before him; the hills melt; the earth heaves before him, the world and all who dwell in it.
Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him. Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
See a Problem?
From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,.
The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith
But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
The Rage Against God
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. Now the works of the flesh are evident: I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. But I will warn you whom to fear: Yes, I tell you, fear him!
For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,. That liberty and law are attainable human objectives which are also the good by-products of Christian faith. Faith is the best antidote to utopianism, dismissing the dangerous idea of earthly perfection, discouraging people from acting as if they were God, encouraging people to act in the belief that there is a God and an ordered, purposeful universe, governed by an unalterable law.

Are Atheist states not actually Atheist? Even though the authors set the benchmark for sibling rivalry, their books prove there is something special about them. Both are restless romantics, enemies of cosy consensus, original minds - and products of an education system that wanted all children to be cultured and questioning. Peter's book reads as if Cardinal Newman were reflecting on life after battle-scarred years as a foreign correspondent, while Christopher's book, if it were a thoroughbred horse, would be by George Orwell out of Kingsley Amis.
