Other undergraduate teaching in team-taught courses has involved: Postgraduate courses in which Professor Garcia has taught: MA in Hispanic Studies Intercollegiate, Although he started out with a solid training in the field of Hispanic Studies with one PhD in Romance Studies, focusing on Spanish drama, and one in Hispanic Studies, focusing on Spanish poetry , with minors at doctoral level in German drama in exile, in translation, and language theory, and French and Italian literature at undergraduate level, he has expanded his field of research to include a more transnational and multilingual perspective in terms of culture, migration, censorship and cultural production under duress.

He believes this transnational perspective has widened his understanding of censorship and exile, and the cultural responses of creative work produced in a particular sociohistorical context. He seeks in his research and writing to look beyond the confinements of metaphors of right and left wing political stances in order to fully understand the work of censors and States and their impact on the political subjectivities he studies. He is also interested in Cuban film and representations of Cuban society post in Cuban and foreign films.
His main areas of research have focused on Cuban studies particular interest in exile, migration and 'diaspora' studies ; modern Spanish poetry and drama particularly , under Franco and cultural memory: His own international standing as a poet and his creative output are in line with the conceptual interests of his research, as explored in his poetry collection Resistencia en la tierra Madrid: Cuban Poetry 19th and 20th Century. October November 1, National Identity in a Transnational Setting: Cuban Films, Novels and Poetry. An onsite and online installation of poetry from the 41 countries represented in the Toronto Games Poets from the 41 Pan American countries were celebrated and submitted works for the project that included an onsite installation at York University with online components that were exhibited from February to August A "Poet-Tree Factory" stand produced original, on-the-spot poems for visitors at the July 8, official Toronto Pan Am Torch Day celebrations at Earlscourt Park in Toronto, and a collective poem collage art station for children.
An event at York's Keele campus with poetry readings by students and Miguel Avero, musical performances and presentations by YorkU alum, and a special performance by Toronto Candombe group Magia Negra led by Sergio Barboza.
