He asked for an object that would allow him to live his life without the fear of Death following him. Reluctantly, Death handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility. Albus Dumbledore thought it was unlikely that the Elder Wand was actually made by Death, and assumed that it may have been created by the eldest of the three Peverell brothers , Antioch. However, Antioch did not possess the Elder Wand for very long: After killing a rival wizard in a duel shortly after creating the wand, Antioch drunkenly boasted of the wand's powers.
He was murdered in his sleep that night and another wizard took possession of the wand. Over time, this powerful and mysterious wand passed through various hands, usually by violent means, and acquired names such as "the Deathstick" and "the Wand of Destiny". Godelot is known to have become Master of the Elder Wand around a century after Egbert the Egregious.
Godelot considered the Elder Wand an instructor, and used his knowledge of the Wand's powers to write Magick Moste Evile , a book containing information on Dark magic including a passing reference to Horcruxes in its introduction. Godelot perished in his own cellar after he was locked in there by his son, Hereward , who did this to gain ownership of the Wand. It is debated whether Arcus and Livius became the Master of the Elder Wand after Loxias's death, as tracking the wand's history any further than this point becomes difficult.
At some point during the nineteenth century, the Elder Wand came into the possession of wandmaker Mykew Gregorovitch.
Upon realising that it was the most powerful wand in existence, Gregorovitch spent many years experimenting to try and duplicate its powers. Gregorovitch, somewhat foolish by nature and hoping it would improve business, even started a rumour detailing that he possessed the wand and his efforts to replicate its properties.
This would eventually lead to his undoing; sometime between and [9] , Gregorovitch heard someone breaking into his workshop one night. He promptly ran inside and saw that an intruder had taken the wand: Gregorovitch never discovered the man's identity. Gellert Grindelwald was one of the most powerful and feared Dark Wizards of all time, second only to Lord Voldemort. He was educated at Durmstrang Institute , but was later expelled. Grindelwald's great-aunt was the famous magical historian Bathilda Bagshot , and following his expulsion he lived with her in the village Godric's Hollow for a summer.
During this time he struck up a friendship with a young Albus Dumbledore, and the two made plans to find the Deathly Hallows. They believed that possessing the Hallows would allow them to create a world in which Muggles , out of necessity and for the greater good, would be subservient to wizards and witches.
This partnership fell apart after the two were involved in a vicious three-way duel with Albus' brother Aberforth , which resulted in the accidental death of his sister Ariana. After his falling out with Dumbledore, Grindelwald delved into his research of the Deathly Hallows and uncovered the location of the Elder Wand. Rumours had been circulating that the renowned wandmaker Gregorovitch had the wand and was trying to duplicate its properties. Grindelwald broke into the wandmaker's workshop, and succeeded in claiming ownership of the fabled wand by waiting until Gregorovitch came and then casting a stunning spell at him, making himself the rightful owner.
Over the years, Grindelwald raised an army and began a reign of terror that spread through several European countries and resulted in the murder of many wizards and Muggles. He never attempted to seize power in Britain, though, due to his fear of his former Dumbledore, who was " a shade more skilful " than he was. During his reign, Grindelwald built the Nurmengard prison to hold any enemies or objectors, all while claiming that everything he did was " for the greater good ", which was the phrase he inscribed above the entrance of Nurmengard.
In , at the height of Grindelwald's power, Albus Dumbledore finally felt compelled to confront his former friend due to the public outcry. Despite Grindelwald's mastery of the Elder Wand, as well as putting up an immense fight, Dumbledore defeated him in what became known as a legendary duel. Grindelwald was subsequently incarcerated in his own prison, Nurmengard, for decades, He was eventually slain there in by Lord Voldemort , who was in search of the Elder Wand.
Grindelwald, however, refused to divulge any information about the wand, perhaps defying Voldemort as Dumbledore believed as a final act of atonement for his own crimes. Dumbledore duelling Voldemort with the Elder Wand. When he arrived at the Ministry to aid the Order of the Phoenix in the battle against the Death Eaters , he engaged in a ferocious duel with Lord Voldemort, using his wand to enchant the statues from the Fountain of Magical Brethren to protect Harry.
Dumbledore was able to overpower Voldemort's overwhelming magical capabilities and nearly defeated him when he held Voldemort in an orb of water, forcing an escape. When Harry dipped a goblet into the lake to provide water for Dumbledore who was incredibly weak and thirsty after drinking the Drink of Despair to reach the Horcrux , all the Inferi that resided in the lake grabbed at Harry and attempted to drag him down and drown him in the lake.
Dumbledore recovered enough to conjure a firestorm around them to ward off the Inferi, but remained very weak. In the tower, Dumbledore told Harry not to interfere in the events that were about to take place there, and, to ensure this, placed him in a Body-Bind Curse under his invisibility cloak.

Vader stalks for a hidden Luke to let down his guard, while quietly sensing within his son's mind that Luke has a sister. Vader threatens to turn her to the dark side if Luke will not, but Luke responds viciously in intense saber fighting of Form V , up to the point where Luke strikes off Vader's right mechanical hand just as Vader cut off Luke's in The Empire Strikes Back. For several reasons, the working title of the project was Blue Harvest and dubbed "Horror Beyond Imagination" to engender no interest whatsoever in order to disguise what the production crew was really filming from fans and the prying eyes of the press.
George Lucas had severed all his remaining ties to the Hollywood system out of a feeling of persecution after the success of The Empire Strikes Back and had become a truly independent filmmaker. Lucasfilm is a non-union company, and despite George Lucas's stature and clout, that, says Howard Kazanjian in Empire of Dreams , made acquiring shooting locations more difficult and more expensive, even though A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back were mammoth hits.
The title was used in all areas where it seemed necessary. The Blue Harvest ruse, credited to producer Howard Kazanjian, was very thorough, emblazoning the fictitious film's logo on a wide range of film production items including shirts, caps, coats, buttons, signs, invoices and stationery. The Blue Harvest facade did give a bit of a wink and nod to its true purpose however, as the supposed film's logo intentionally or unintentionally utilized the distinctive Star Wars logo lettering style.
In particular the ruse was employed during location filming in Yuma, Arizona. The filming took place in the dunes over the Thanksgiving holiday, where there was a reported crowd of 35, dune buggy enthusiasts. After erecting a chain link fence, employing a huge security force, and dodging a myriad of press inquiries, in the end approximately sixty fans saw through the ruse and refused to leave until they obtained a few autographs and photos. The film's director was the late Richard Marquand , who passed away in of a heart ailment, but reports have suggested that George Lucas was still heavily involved in the shooting of Return of the Jedi and likely directed some of the second unit work personally when shooting threatened to go over schedule.
Lucas admits in the documentary Empire of Dreams that he had to often be on the set due to Marquand's relative inexperience with special effects, but comments by The Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner on that film's DVD audio commentary track suggests that Lucas, who acted more as an advisor on The Empire Strikes Back , had a similar role on the production of Return of the Jedi. Also, the button on the shirt becomes star-shaped. Zane's second outfit consists of a black overcoat with white trimmings and sharp edges.
The letter "R" is centered on his belt buckle, drawn from the first letter of his name in the Japanese version. This feature has been occasionally removed from the dub. Zane's personality is markedly different during each of the seasons. In the first season and the start of the second season, Zane is calm and collected, with a deep respect for his opponents and his own cards. He feels that the connection between a Duelist and his opponent, as well as the Duelist himself and his Deck, makes victory meaningful.
His dubbed personality is harsher and has a sharper tongue than his Japanese counterpart. In the second season, following his Duel in the underground against Mad Dog , his personality is much harsher, crueler, and sadistic; as he enjoys watching his opponents suffer. In the dub, he even rants about how the world is made of hurt, and that Dueling is all about dealing with pain and inflicting pain on those who are weak.
By the time of the third season, Zane's personality appears to take on a mix of both his former attitudes. While he still Duels much more aggressively and with more passion than in the first season, Zane also appears capable of respecting his opponents again, and doesn't act so dark and needlessly cruel. His Deck changes as well; while he still uses the " Cyberdark " series, he uses his normal " Cyber Dragons " again, even bringing out " Cyber End Dragon " more often than " Cyberdark Dragon " and utilizing the former where the latter has failed.
It was originally believed to be the electrodes that were the cause of Zane's heart problems but it was later revealed the cause of his heart problems was the use of his "Cyberdark" Deck; the cards' desire to win at all costs were what inflicted the damage to his heart in the original, Judai also mentions a wide variety of reasons why the cards might do so.
Following his revival in the fourth season, Zane has become quiet and reserved, losing most of the negative aspects of his personality that he developed in the second season. Though of the opinion that he had his best final Duel against Yubel , his Deck wants to keep fighting regardless of Zane himself. Despite this, Zane still attempts to Duel Makoto Inotsume. He later decides to start Dueling again with a new, evolving Deck, and demonstrates pride in his brother , believing him to have surpassed him.
His Japanese given name means "Excellent". His English given name means "God is gracious". Zane Truesdale is the strong older brother of Syrus who stays in the Obelisk Blue dormitory. Zane is highly respected and a Duel with him is reserved only for the elite. He is also good friends with Alexis and her brother, Atticus. When Syrus was younger he almost used the card " Power Bond " without thinking during a Duel.
He was stopped by Zane who revealed that if he used it he would have lost the Duel at the end of his turn because of the card's drawback. Paying off Syrus's opponent to end the Duel, Zane sealed the card, stating that his brother could only use it when he was truly ready. Syrus , believing himself to be a disgrace to his older brother, did not unseal the card until much later after his friend Jaden faced off against Zane.
Though Jaden put up a good fight, Zane defeated him. Zane would later suggest that Jaden be the representative in the Duel against North Academy after Chancellor Sheppard expressed a desire to choose a first year student. Zane was selected by Camula , the second member of the Shadow Riders , as a victim of her Shadow Duel. Although he overpowered her easily the vampire forced him into an intentional loss by offering his brother's soul as payment for her " Ilusion Gate " card.
As a result, he was turned into a doll for a short period of time before Jaden managed to defeat Camula, returning Zane to normal. He later faces Jaden in a rematch, choosing him as his opponent for his ceremonial graduation Duel. Zane goes on to compete in the Duelist Pro Leagues after his graduation. Aster easily defeats Zane. A fan favorite in the Pro League , he suffers his first true loss at the hands of Aster Phoenix , who tells him that his defeat is "predetermined by destiny".
