Our food was paced perfectly. My husband had the filet and crab cake. It was cooked to perfection, as was my prime rib! My husbands pork was better. Everything came so fast I had to ask the waitress to slow it down. Completely overpriced for what it was.

The Sunday breakfast was not good either. Save your money and eat in town. Our table might as well have been in the kitchen. We had a reservation but they gave our table to someone who didn't want to sit next to the kitchen. Not exaggerating the door was almost hitting our table. Then the servers repeatedly tried to squeeze through hitting my chair.

I literally order pizza while I was at the restaurant the food was so inedible. The waiter at least notice we hated our food and immediately took it off. I'm a vegetarian and got their vegetarian option so maybe the meat dishes are better. Our experience was not a good one though. Our dining experience began on a great note. Our server was helpful and responsive. The appetizer and drinks were wonderful.

Unfortunately, the experience took a negative turn when one of the entrees served was a substitute brisket subbed in for a pork shoulder dish. No explanation was provided. A new order was placed. It arrived 35 minutes later. Everyone else at the table had finished their entrees. The bill arrived and there was a full charge for the new order a ribeye.

We had to ask for the discount and it took the server at least 15 minutes to modify the check. Food has been better in the past. We have eaten at 88 several times over the years and they have slipped at this point. New owners at the hotel as of this date and I am sure thigs will change.

They were eating dinner the night we dined. Service very good by Kyle our waiter. The breakfast ladies are very good as well. I noted on my reservation that this was for a birthday and I would like to surprise my guest with a dessert for her birthday. I expected to pay for this but it apparently was never communicated. Eighty Eight the Elms was a wonderful way to end the evening. Dinner was cooked perfectly and so tasty. The steak was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was amazing and adaptable for when we were seated inside and decided to sit outside. Definitely not enough staff to handle the reservations!

We have been several times and the menu never changes, they never have specials, not very many vegetarian options. Ambiance is very bleak and kind of old fashioned! The menu does not offer varieties and prices are too high. Had a very good steak and crab cakes. The shining star was herbed compound butter that came with our rolls. Wine list was a bit limited, and I expected more local wines.

A seasonal cocktail would have been so nice, but was not there. Dessert was okay, clearly not housemade, but thawed from frozen. Too bad there was a TV Your host was rude. He told us we were 15 mins late for our reservation. Staff needs better training am and pm morning bartender is lacking.

The old building is still fabulous, and the inside still has its old fashioned cozy elegance. The room was fine but our Anniversary dinner certainly was not.

The charcuterie appetizer was delicious, except the carrots were so large and so hard that we could not cut them. We both ordered the fried chicken, and both the white and dark meats were dry. The greens over the whipped potatoes were overpowering, and on the bitter side. The dessert cobbler was so overcooked that we could not get a fork into the top crust, nor distinguish the dark fruit on the bottom.

With wine, this was an expensive and sorry meal. Told the wait staff, but they were defensive. In the morning, we did try breakfast. The buffet was quite good, and the salmon and dilled cream cheese on a toasted bagel from the menu was too. But not enough for us to return to We spent the night at the Elms Saturday for a year anniversary and had made reservations in advance for the 88 restaurant. When we had gotten online and looked at the menu there was really good options quite a bit to choose from but then when we got there Saturday evening the menu was not the same as it was online.

Our waitress had told us that within the last few weeks you guys had changed your menu but you had not gotten online yet and made the changes on their the menu is very limited very small and didn't care what was 4 on the menu. I was looking forward to the filet Oscar or the stuff chicken cordon bleu and you didn't have either one of those so I would have to say your menu is not very good. If we would have been aware of this we would have went somewhere else and ate dinner and then went and listen to some music.

I wouldn't recommend the restaurant is nice but I wouldn't recommend it because the options on there are limited and are not very good or waitress was great service fine can't complain about that I just did not care for the menu whatsoever. After waiting at our table for twenty minutes without a server even coming to take our drink order we left and went to another restaurant. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet, very delicious and very feasibly priced. Great drinks and food. We will definitely be back next time when we visit. My wife and I ate there 4 dinners and 5 lunches while at the Elms. Found the help to be very friendly.

And found the kitchen to be very accommodating when we wanted something fixed differently than on the menu. Overpriced and overly casual style for a No feeling special even though we celebrated a milestone anniversary. The food was excellent. We wanted a special dinner to celebrate a special occasion and we were not disappointed. The wait staff was very attentive. We drove to Excelsior Springs Missouri and had a lovely dinner at the Elms. No idea if the food is good or not. Had reservations for outdoor dining for anniversary dinner.

Only people sitting outside was us and we got seated on the last table by the staff entrance with a bad view all other table had a better view. So we walked off as well and went to a nice Mexican place in town El Maguey and the service was great. Oh by the way the picture of our table is the next morning and they hadn't even been out to clean it after we left at 8pm.

Meal came over cooked but our waitress Dawn did a great job managing the issue and went above and beyond our expectations! She is an undeniable key to the success of the 88! We were disappointed with our meal and service. It just seemed like we were visiting during your off season and it reflected with the food and service. I would recommend limiting your menu options during this time and putting forth more of an effort during the off season. We are foodies and we were looking forward to our meal after looking at the menu earlier. Needless to say, it all changed once we received our food.

My husband had the fried country steak and he had to scrape the topping off. It tasted like straight vegetable oil, no seasoning. Almost like it was the same oil that everything else is cooked in.

I had the Surf and Turf, the filet was good, but the Lobster portion was ridiculously small and tasted very bland no butter to dip it into. Your wine list was limited also and disappointing. You do not have many options to have wine by the glass, so we had to purchase a bottle. I normally don't have a problem with that, but you didn't have a good wine selection.

We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and looking forward to a good meal. We had our reservation for April 9th at 7: When we arrived for our reservation time, they informed us it would be minutes. We ended up eating our meal in the bar. Food was mediocre, bartender was apologetic and kind. Sign up Sign in. Overview Photos Menu Reviews Twitter. Eighty Eight The Elms. Good for a Date. Great for Outdoor Dining.
