Thank you so much Wendy! My grandkids will love this series! Oct 20, Christoph Fischer rated it it was amazing. In the book Kellie and her colourful wider family provide a sparkling firework of laughs and absurdity. Few of us have but Kellie Culpepper has. I can't remember the last time that a children's book made me laugh so hard and often. Although the book is mostly set in the cottage of Aunt Kitty, wh "Kellie at Come-alive Cottage" by Wendy Unsworth is a funny, original and magical book for children.
Although the book is mostly set in the cottage of Aunt Kitty, who sometimes turns into a cat, the book has plenty of ideas and provides original laughs throughout the book. I was amazed how much Unsworth packed into this short book, particularly as children's books often suffer from a one-trick-pony syndrome and sometimes seem to use only one idea per story. This is really great fun, supported also by very entertaining illustrations. Jul 21, Anne rated it it was amazing. This is a short book at just under 50 pages, but it is the perfect read-aloud story for young children.
Packed full of the silliest of characters with the wildest of names and wonderfully illustrated by Frances Lee West. It reminded me of Pippi Longstocking and Roald Dahl's The Twits, and I was really bewitched by the story and I just know that children will be entranced too. Kellie, the heroine of the story, is the daughter of two explorers. Her two aunts; Aunt Sillime and Aunt Kitty are perfectl This is a short book at just under 50 pages, but it is the perfect read-aloud story for young children.
Her two aunts; Aunt Sillime and Aunt Kitty are perfectly bonkers, and Kellie spends a very unpredictable and exciting couple of days staying with Aunt Kitty in Come-alive Cottage. Spells go wrong and watering cans get annoyed, postmen are shrunk and a python appears. Welcome to the crazy, delightful and colourful world of Kellie and her family.
Christmas at Come-alive Cottage by Wendy Unsworth
A joy, for both children and adults. Jun 13, Sheri rated it it was amazing. Only thing is her spells never turn out wrong, Kellie never knows what will happen. Then Aunt Kitty makes a spell with a snake and it is up to Kellie to save the day.

A very cute story, I read it twice, once by myself the second time to my grandchildren. The illustrations were very nice, Kellie and Aunt Kitty are so lovable. I highly recommend to children and adults who are young at heart!

Oct 02, Mariana Llanos rated it it was amazing. This is a fun, smart book that I'm sure will delight young readers. It's full of oddities, silly illustrations and fun fonts. It plays with the absurd but in a way that doesn't feel forced.
I would recommend this book for second and third graders, even fourth graders. It is equally enjoyable for older readers, that, like me, still believe in magic. Unsworth's first book for children but I have a feeling that we'll be hearing a lot more of Kellie and her fantastic adventures.

Author has a really vivid imagination! Be ready to be surprised in every sentence! For me there are even too many adventures: I'll translate the story to my daughter who doesn't read English and maybe update the review then. As for myself, I give four stars, not five, because I was amused, yes, but not overexcited with the plot, characters, and pictures, but maybe my daughter will be. I received a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Nov 21, Dinaday rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book is well written and has whimsical illustrations that I liked.
