This book did not really satisfy any of those inclinations in me.

Aside from a couple short pages on the general formation of crystals in the introduction, there is no information on the scientific natures of minerals--no chemical makeup, specific formation, nothing. While this book is full of symbolic associations, they are not necessarily the ones based in folklore and collective consciousness that I enjoy.

There are lots of lovely pictures, though, which saves this book from being a single-star affair for me. Next time I will be a little more discriminate about the crystal books I pick up, so that I know I am getting one that satisfies my own interests. May 06, M. Nov 20, Alex O. My life is complete because I now know that this masterpiece is on goodreads. Aug 12, Scottsdale Public Library added it Shelves: Have you ever found yourself drawn to a certain crystal or gem? That's because many believe that crystals have energies! They are beautiful, mysterious, and awe inspiring. This book covers all types of crystals and their metaphysical, magical, and healing properties.

Every page has gorgeous pictures of each gem and information about the energy that it holds. The Crystal Bible is a must have reference guide for anyone who works with crystals or who just loves to wear them.

New editions are probably much improved, but this one works just as well. Sep 24, Jennifer rated it really liked it Shelves: I use this book as a reference all the time.

Sometimes it yields more information than I need, while other times not nearly enough but perhaps it's a start. I can't say it's "amazing" but it's definitely my first go-to for the spiritual and healing info on crystals and minerals.

Mar 06, Lisa James rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love this book. The information is presented in a concise manner, yet easy to read. Jul 18, Sam Page rated it did not like it. It's facts are unbacked and it lacks quite a bit of relevant information. I don't think I'm a fan of any book that has Bible in it. Jan 05, Cindra rated it it was amazing Shelves: Had to research "magic rocks" I received for Christmas.

This is my go-to fav book for looking up gemstones and crystals, and their applications for spiritual and physical healing. Nov 17, Lodane rated it liked it. Like televangelists, and snake-oil salesman, these publishers prey on the vulnerable.

The authors are mentally ill: Worst of all, most of them can't write worth a damn. Llewellyn Worldwide is the absolute worst on both counts. These books are also big offenders on the the 'cultural appropriation' front. In fact, they're in the running for worst case ever. So-called 'eclectic witches' steal aspects of other religions and mythology.

They make it clear that they don't understand them, or feel the need to, before shitting in someone else's bed. The living Venn diagram of demographics for these books would look like this: She's a white, American woman. Growing up, her strict parents took her to church every Sunday. She kissed a girl 10 years ago, and likes Katy Perry. To quote Holden from Chasing Amy, "Over- or underweight [people] who don't get laid - they're our bread and butter. They don't prime you to understand hermeticism. Hermeticism, by the way, is also total bullshit.

It is, at least, historic -- and seminal in almost all spooky fiction involving rituals or alchemy. If I give one of these books anything above 2 stars, it's a decent example of this type of book.

It might have a redeeming feature, like reference material for fictional world-building. Having worked in this field, including sales of these exact books, I can tell you Nov 03, Araminta Matthews rated it liked it. A fine coffee table book with lovely photos, but not a very meaty book. I wanted depth and reason and background, but this book offers little in that department. If you are seeking a crystal book that gives you contextual histories and explanations as to how or why certain crystals might be used in specific energy practices, this is not your book. If you are just seeking a surface book that skims across the types of healing uses you might employ specific crystals to perform and are not concerned A fine coffee table book with lovely photos, but not a very meaty book.

If you are just seeking a surface book that skims across the types of healing uses you might employ specific crystals to perform and are not concerned with a clear explanation why this crystal would be selected over another or how this crystal is selected at all, this book is fine. It's very topical and may make a great reference for a healer who may use this as a quick index either for inspiration or to offer a reader-friendly crystal use to a client. By far and beyond, the best crystal book I've read so far is Gemlore, and perhaps a few of the historical lapidaries.

This book does little to distinguish itself, which is why I am so surprised it is so popular. Still, it's a fine book and Judy Hall knows her stuff--I think she would have benefited tremendously from a section for each stone on contextualization context of stone use and how that context is derived , and from a better schema for its design perhaps a more thoroughly constructed index would have helped this book become a more multi-purposeful reference manual as opposed to a pretty and minor refreshment as opposed to meaty coffee table book.

Dec 04, Kaori Hilton rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book had been always a top suggestion by my nearby mystic's shop. After three years of browsing through, finally decided to get one and ended up getting all one to three for reference. It was translated into my language. My impression was this first book shut the door and froze my crystal journey. Instilled an impression that I would never understand.
